I have also seen on another blog that the exact same thing happened in reverse. I’m wondering if part of it is a port issue and they have to fight for who gets the workers?
I Hope Princess And HAL Figure This Issue Out And Hopefully They Figure Out This Is Bad For Business. Thank You For Letting Us All Know This Information
You guys must have REALLY enjoyed your embarkation Grey Goose! We had a somewhat similar situation on our last Princess cruise. The bags were picked up, but they had no one there to direct the medallion people. The green lane cruisers were packed in with the "pick up" people. Finally, someone separated the green lane from the rest, and we were on our way. An unnecessary delay! Looking forward to the next videos. We hope they have sorted things out by our 4/30 sailing on the Emerald!
We were on the Royal the week after your sailing. We had the same issues at the port, nobody to take our luggage. This was the first sign something was off....it didn't get better. Looking forward to your next video!
Thank You For Watching. My Theory Is That Princess Did Not Pay The Port Of Seattle For Porter Service Whereas HAL Did. Which Would Explain Why Princess Passengers Were Left Holding Their Bags Pun Intended 🤣 Thank You For Watching
@@code4forlife I'm looking forward to your views on the rest of your Royal Princess cruise. We have seen Princess quality and service go down over the years since our first Princess cruise in 1991. We've been very loyal but we might move to Holland or Celebrity for our next cruise.
My opinion is we have become an extremely entitled society, we feel like we have to get instant gratification. Waiting in line doesn't seem like that big of a deal, when you have two large cruise ships hit port at the same time and all those people have to go through customs. It seems that it would be necessary to clear one ship at a time (explaining the delay). Hope you enjoyed your cruise. I enjoy most of your posts, but this one was a little too negative for me.
We Will Never Sugarcoat Our Experiences Both Good And Bad. The Process Either Works Or In This Case Doesn’t. This Was A Mismanaged Embarkation With No Supervision By Princess And Port Personnel. those were not no lines and I don't see wanting an organized embarkation experience as being "entitled". I watch this yt channel because they are honest.
So frustrating to have to drag luggage around. Surely there were some with physical challenges who could not do it. Curious - what time was your scheduled boarding appointment time?
We Survived 😀 Hopefully This Issue Will See Some Light And Be Fixed And Our Port Fees And Taxes Put To Better Use. Thank You For Watching And Commenting
I know this is an older video, but just an update. The Seattle port was no better 2 weeks ago. It’s the worst port we’ve ever sailed out of. They can’t handle 2 ships in port at once. We decided to shuttle to airport vs taxi or Uber. Even though we had purchased this onboard thinking we would walk off, go straight to awaiting bus and off to airport, we waited 1-1/2 hours in line. One the initial 5 busses left, you waited for them to drop off at airport and return. It was cold and rainy. No one in the port area knew what they were doing or who needed to stand where. Maybe this wasn’t a Princess issue but a port issue. Don’t think they have enough people and can really only handle one ship at a time. If I ever went back (and I’m sure I won’t), I would take a taxi. Then there’s the airport in Seattle. Another nightmare. Will do everything I can to avoid both.
Port staffing gets a bit low in September since there are many hired high school and college students. Also, disembark usually goes from 7 am to as late as 10 am or even past. In September, we generally finish disembark by 9:30 am. It also used to depend on border patrol. However, CBP hasn't been checking Passports lije the whole season.. Another that slows us down is if there's a huge influx of wheelchairs. However, it's usually only temporary. However, how a ship disembarks is usually up to the individual ships and not us port people -- either SMS or Metro who are responsible for port staffing directionals and check-in agents, or Intercruises (port logistics and motorized wheelchairs). Generally a 2000 to 4000 passenger ship eill taje to 9:45 am to disembark. Unfortunately cruise companies and staff can often have miscommunication occur so sometimes a person who is supposed to have gotten off with the 7am easy walk-offs gets tangled in with other groups. When this happens, it's a ship personnel miscommunication, not shoreside communication. However, for the several seasons I've worked, including starting with the NCL Bliss at 66 to RCCCL with the Ovation and HAL/PCL, the average is 3 hours. So regardless of the brand, leave 3 hours for disembark + an hour to get lost in Seattle traffic. Now shoreside, I can agree Metro or SMS doesn't have logistical training telling employees wgat happens in each department. We get trained on how to use the brand check-in system whether it's Royal, Hall, Princess, or NCL. However, all employees are not cross-trained. I'm pretty much stuck in the same position all season tgat if they randomly out me on wheelchairs, I hace to ask my fellow employees about bus logistics like if someone wants Seattle Express wgere do I drop them. And then some guests judt say they need to be dropped off at parking. The problem with that is tgat if I'm normally a door person = crosswalk, and a guest shows me a ticket, I need to ask another SMS employee to direct you. Again, the training we get us comprehensive regarding document training and how to check in guests but we don't get the training that gives us the full picture regarding logistics. Fur example, a couple days ago I just learned the Vancover Quick Shuttle stops at pier 91. Whereas the transportation supervisor knows all the busses and literally takes a count of everyone. For the most part, I'm pretty confident in the answer I guve to guests. However, one of the biggest accidents that can happen is when guests need a wheelchair to get off. The ship is supposed to tell guests to arrange it with the ship, and if a guest forgets to arrange it, my hands are tied by the time tgey get to me since I'm not allowed on the ship (only the entrance). I need a TWIC card snd most SMS nor Metro have TWIC's. And usually since I cannot get a radio for the day (limited number -- hundreds of employees, not enough radios) , I need to tell a check-in supervisor to get one of our port wheelchairs egich mat take awhile since they might be out in the bus lot helping guests. Sometimes guests are lucky snd a wheelchair guy cones off the ship. Now, when I get yo stand next to Isabell from the Eurodam or a manager from the hotel department on the Eurodam, it makes it so much easier since they can phone guest services or go on the ship.
Just disembarked Celebrity Ascent in Rome in which the airport is I er an hour from the port. We were eating breakfast at 8:30 a.m. at airport after the drive, a 15 min wait for driver since we disembarked early, checked in at airport, and thru security. No, a 3 hour disembark in Seattle is not acceptable.
At the start of video. We were thinking on how much of a thirst and appetite you both might work up on that long trip across the pier to your next adventure. 😁 But after the rest of the video and the embarkation chaos. I’d say that you two needed that welcome aboard cocktail. Don’t think we have seen Don with that little stressed look. ha! ❤️ My one question. How do you get cocktails-nuts snacks with your drinks? Would be so nice to have that at some bars. Hope the rest of trip smoother. Can’t wait for this trip videos. Thank you
Yes The Welcome Aboard Cocktail Were Welcomed 🤣 The Cocktail Nibbles Were Offered In Every Bar That We Visited Aboard The Royal Princess. This Was Also Offered Back In January When We Were On The Royal Princess. On Our March Cruise Aboard The Crown Princess They Were Not Available. I Was hoping They Were Making A Fleet Wide Return After Covid. Thank You So Much For Watching And Commenting
The porters are employed and directed by the Port of Seattle, and not the cruise lines. My guess is there were issues with US Customs (always making everything harder than it has to be) because the prior disembarking passengers had major delays getting off the ship. Port likely sent all the porters to the HAL side since there weren’t any delays for them. Then newly embarking passengers (you guys) were further delayed because room stewards had to clean rooms later than usual, due to customs disembark delays. Just one thing can go wrong and the dominoes start falling. We were on the same Eurodam cruise as you the year prior and our embarkation was a disaster. It’s really the port’s fault.

Sailed on Royal Princes one week later, May 13 and had no embarkation issues except for lots of people boarding. The porters met our shuttle buss and took our luggage with no issues and we boarded earlier than our assigned time. Got thru the process with no issues on our first cruise. Looked to me like the Holland America ship had far less passengers than the Royal Princess we were on. Guess you just had a bad day.
That embarkation made me want to have a cocktail. It sure was a mess wasn’t it? I’m glad that you guys are honest about what goes on on the ship instead of trying to sugarcoat things. Bye the way where are you guys from?
If you coming in from an international trip boat, plane it does not matter you have to go to customs with your luggage. On Holland America, did you go to a foreign country? If you did then when you arrive in United States, you have to go to customers with your luggage. Even if you’re getting on another boat or plane.
Right now, I am going to guess that something else was going on to slow down the embarkation and disembarkation for Princess. I would have been irritated as well. We have not cruise out of Seattle for Princess, so I don't know if this is normal procedure or not. If that was your worst boarding experience out of 23, that's not too bad. Curious if you will be told why the delay. Thanks for sharing!
I Did Ask Our Captain Circle Events Planner And She Was Saying It Was A CBP Miscommunication. Customs Delays Are Beyond Princess Control However No Porters (Which Is Not A CBP Issue)To Take Bags Slowed Everything Down Whereas HAL Did Not Have This Issue. Seemed Like HAL Had Priority Services From The Port Of Seattle From Our Observations. Loading And Unloading 2100 Passengers Is Also Much Easier Than 3500 Passengers For The Royal Princess Also A Contributing Factor As Well. Thank You For Watching And Commenting And Joining In On This Discussion
It is absolutely amazing the obvious Quality In standards between one Cruise Line That's owned by the exact same company can have versus princesses Greyhound of the Seas
We Were Disappointed By The Lack Of Organization On Princess During This Embarkation. HAL Was So Organized From Start To Finish. My Theory Is That Princess Did Not Pay The Port For Porter Service.
Isn't it possible that the customs process was causing delays in disembarking the Princess ship because it had just arrived from a cruise that originated in Victoria Canada? Whereas the Holland America ship was returning from a cruise that originated in Seattle. I enjoy your videos. Thanks.
That Is What We Were Told. 90% of the Passengers Had Canadian Passports And it was a 3 day Repositioning cruise. CBP Issues Princess has no Control over. Our Issue Was No Porters To Take Bags. They Should Have Have Been Signage Made Instructing Passengers To Bus Your Own Bags Into The Terminal. That Would Have Cut Down On the Confusion Instead Of Waiting For A Service That You Expect. We All Including Us Have To Remember To Pack Your Patience For Your Next Cruise.😀 Thank You For Watching And Commenting
When I called about this because someone in the discovery group mentioned it , I was told each line has their own port staff - so it was definately a princess contracted issue I guess princess contracts a company there and they dropped the ball This would have sucked ! I would have been really really upset Holland was smooth cuz the company they have was clearly on the mark !
@@code4forlife you bet I h herd that Sunday was just as bad . I have that company’s info if you want it I sent an e mail but got zero response - geeee I wonder why what are they going to say ? Ya we messed up ? Looking forward to following along
We were on Royal the week after. Pier 91 was chaos on both Holland and Royal. We asked a porter if he could take our luggage he snapped and said you have to find the guys with the yellow vest. Said ok. We did and he took our luggage . The yellow vest was Royal and the guy who snapped was Holland. After that went pretty fast for my husband and me. Didn't even sit 10 minutes and they called to start embarking on Royal. Sorry to hear of your bad experience on Royal.
My sister and I were coming off of the Royal Princess this day and it was a hot mess. The disembarkation delays were so bad that they finally ended up announcing that people could just go back to their rooms even though they had checked out. I felt so bad for the room stewards because they had probably already started cleaning them. 😞 I was recovering from a surgery so we were fortunate to be amongst the ones who required wheelchair assistance and were able to get off a little quicker. In the Facebook group for our cruise, it sounds like it was an absolute madhouse and people were fighting over taxi's when they finally were able to disembark. We also received the customs excuse onboard. Other than this, it was a lovely cruise and I plan to give Princess another try. I've only done 2 cruises in total, the other being with Norwegian, and Princess was a little better for us overall.
Princess Did Not Have Any Porters. Only Holland America Had Them. The Porters Were Only Servicing Holland America Passengers For Embarkation. Hopefully This Is No Longer An Issue At The Port. Thank You So Much For Watching And Commenting.
Never had this issue with Princess in all our cruises. Just a bad day not a bad cruise line. Are you sponsored by Holland America? I mean…. The amount of times you repeated how organised they were lol 😂
We Were Disappointed At This Experience Which Made It Worse Considering We Were Just On The Eurodam And Had A Great Experience From The First To The Last Minute. Once Onboard I Tried To Get A Reason For No Porters At The Port And Received No Explanation. Delayed Embarkation Onto The Ship Was Do To US Customs Which Princess Has No Control Off. Thank You John For Watching And Commenting
@@code4forlife playing the blame game on US Customs doesn't cut it with me as the same institution was used for the Eurodam which seemed to be flawless.
If that had been my first cruise experience, I probably would never cruise again. Shame on Princess!! I contacted Princess about this issue and got no response from them at all. By the way, what was the date of this fiasco?
This Was On May 6th As We Disembarked From The Eurodam To Embark On The Royal Princess Both At Pier 91 In Seattle. Thank You For Watching And Commenting
Sorry about your embarkation process with Princess. I would associate the problems you experienced with the regional Princess management and let corporate know. It is clear there were quality differences you appreciated with Holland America however, from a price/value perspective, have you come to a conclusion which line offers a better value?
That’s crazy that princess would have that much trouble with their passengers. They should be organized and have people out there to take the bag, so it makes it easier for the passengers to get through the lines and stuff. I like your vlog
@@code4forlife your welcome my mom and nephew and i will be on princess next year i dont remember the name of the ship but i hope everything goes smoothly for us. U r amazing and u r welcome love 💕

This is very disheartening to see and hear about. Nothing has changed since March of this year. When we were disembarking Royal, passengers were waiting in the rain around the building to board. There were barely any porters to assist me with my luggage and wheelchair-disabled husband. I'm over 70, and it was pathetic that I had to tow 4 pieces of luggage and a wheelchair from the ship to the pier for my ride. I hope that your cruise will make up for your inconvenience. Safe travels.
Thank You So Much For Sharing Your Experience. We Were Ok Wrestling With Our Bags And Your Story Brings This To Light. We Hope Princess Does Better For Their Passengers That Need Extra Assistance To And From The Ship. Thank You So Much For Watching And Commenting
Okay so let’s cut Princes slack. It could be a staffing issue, two cruises moving at the same time. Also porters know more money to be made helping people off not on ship. It’s not Miami , it’s Seattle. Lol I’m more worried about you eating that bland food again. Give Princess a chance, each experience is different. At the end of the day greatful that you can do this. Some people can’t afford eggs.
You Are Right George We Are Very Fortunate To Be Able to Cruise And These Are Really Minor Issues At The Port. I Believe That Princess Is Not Paying For The Porter Service And HAL Is. Princess Should Have Had Signs Directing Passengers To The Terminal With All Luggage. I tried To Find Out Later On In The Cruise Princess Wants to Blame CBP. 🤷♂️ I Have To Hand Holland America A Win In Seattle For An Easy Embarkation And Disembarkation.
When I called about this because someone in the discovery group mentioned it , I was told each line has their own port staff - so it was definately a princess contracted issue I guess princess contracts a company there and they dropped the ball
This would have sucked ! I would have been really really upset
Holland was smooth cuz the company they have was clearly on the mark !
Thank You Cari For This Information And Thank You For Watching
We Hope You Both Also Had A Great Cruise And Thank You For Sharing Your Experience With Us
My sister and I were coming off of the Royal Princess this day and it was a hot mess. The disembarkation delays were so bad that they finally ended up announcing that people could just go back to their rooms even though they had checked out. I felt so bad for the room stewards because they had probably already started cleaning them. 😞
I was recovering from a surgery so we were fortunate to be amongst the ones who required wheelchair assistance and were able to get off a little quicker.
Thank You For Sharing Your Experience With Us.
We had the same experience last year. Princess needs to address the issue with this port
That’s Unfortunate That This Happened To You Last Year. Agreed Princess And The Port Needs To Fix This Issue
What I want to know is, were there any porters to take your bags at Princess? Thanks for watching
Princess Did Not Have Any Porters. Only Holland America Had Them. The Porters Were Only Servicing Holland America Passengers For Embarkation. Hopefully This Is No Longer An Issue At The Port. Thank You So Much For Watching And Commenting.
Princess cruise line really needs a lot of improvements from many areas. Especially on the food quality and options.
Agreed. They also need to be consistent across the Fleet. Thank You For Watching And Commenting
Never had this issue with Princess in all our cruises. Just a bad day not a bad cruise line. Are you sponsored by Holland America? I mean…. The amount of times you repeated how organised they were lol 😂
🤣🤣🤣 Thank You For Watching
Nice shot of my wife and I sitting in elite lounge. I'm wearing reddish shirt with bball cap. Here's a sub and as thumbs up
Thank You So Much For Watching And Commenting
Absolutely disgraceful from Princess. You have convinced me to try another cruise line in the future. Thank you for another great video.
We Thought That As Well John
We Are Looking Forward To Sailing With HAL Again For More Research 🤣 Thank You For Watching And Commenting
That’s crazy that princess would have that much trouble with their passengers. They should be organized and have people out there to take the bag, so it makes it easier for the passengers to get through the lines and stuff. I like your vlog
Thank You So Much For Watching And Commenting
@@code4forlife your welcome my mom and nephew and i will be on princess next year i dont remember the name of the ship but i hope everything goes smoothly for us. U r amazing and u r welcome love 💕
I love the people (hate) who carry on not just carry on but huge luggage. Why?
🤣🤷♂️ Right😀 Thank You So much For Watching
Lol don’t starve hahahaha I have never been overly impressed with princess food - good but not outstanding
But I’m a foodie so
We Are Foodies As Well😀
You repeated yourself over and over about the boarding process. So it was a little disorganized, perhpas you should have booked a back to back with HAL. Be grateful you can even cruise. This is a luxury.
We are fortunate to be able to Cruise. We are a Cruise Vlog On UA-cam and we Report on our Experiences On our Channel. We do not candy coat our experiences. We will report positive experiences along with the not so great experiences. We are not compensated by any cruise line and We Work Hard And Pay For Our Cruises Ourselves. If We point Out a negative it is for Educational purposes and hopefully a teachable moment. Thank you for watching
I really really hope someone from Princess watches your blogs.
What a total sh**show!
At least in SF we have porters and a little less chaos.
Thanks for sharing your “adventure.”
Thank You Very Much. I Don’t Think Princess Even Knows Us 🤣 We Are Small Potatoes. We Really Enjoy Cruising Out Of Our Homeport In SF. Every Time Has Been A Breeze. Thank You So Much For Watching And Commenting
I’m sure Princess was not trying to ruin your day and that surely something was going that was beyond their control. This video is literally 20 minutes of whining, while cruise ship hopping. Could I trade my problems for yours? Pretty please… 😂
This Video Documents The Embarkation Process And Our Perspective Between Two Cruise Lines On May 6th 2023 At Pier 91 In Seattle. We Are A Cruise Vlog Channel That Reports On Our Experiences Either Good Or Not So Good. We Will Never Candy Coat Our Experiences. We Pay For Our Own Cruises And Are Not Compensated By Princess Or Any Cruise Line. Thank You Very Much For Watching
Simply put... that looks awful. What a way to start your vacation. Frankly the "elite" lounge looks jammed and not too "elite" at all. I think doing this back to back after being so please with HAT (especially the food) you may be disappointed with this second cruise.
We Definitely Saw A Lot Of Contrast Between Both Cruise Lines. We Definitely Want To Do Some More Cruises With HAL. We Have 3 Princess Cruises Booked And One QM2 Cruise Booked For Next Year. Thank You So Much For Watching And Commenting
Im sorry but none of that spread is 'nice ' in the ' elite lounge' lol
🤣 It Was Pretty Basic
Okay so let’s cut Princes slack. It could be a staffing issue, two cruises moving at the same time. Also porters know more money to be made helping people off not on ship.
It’s not Miami , it’s Seattle. Lol
I’m more worried about you eating that bland food again.
Thank You For Watching Our Rant Video 🤣🤣🤣
@@code4forlife I agree with you. It’s the start of your cruise it should be smoother. I did Carnival last year to Alaska, very smooth boarding. I’m on Princess this time to Alaska, out of Vancouver. I’ll be prepared. Lol
Keep us posted, looking forward to seeing your dinners and buffet. Lol
Have fun. Great connecting with you.
Thank You So Much For Watching More Videos Out Soon I’m Behind In Getting Them Edited And Uploaded Hopefully I Will Be Done Before Our Next Alaska Cruise In July On The Grand Princess Out Of Vancouver🤣
@@code4forlife I’m on the Crown Princess out of Vancouver July 4. Bummer, would of been nice to have met the two of you.
Amazed that one reviewer can have such a negative reaction to princess vs most of the other reviewers Ive watched on UA-cam this year. Maybe its just your experence and you have had bad luck. Hope your cruise gets better.
We Will Always Report Both The Good And The Bad. We Pay For All Our Our Cruises And Are not Compensated By Princess Or Any Other Cruise Line. We Try To Bring Our Perspective Based On 23 Princess Cruises And One HAL Cruise. Thank You So Much For Watching And Commenting
Positive Comments Are Earned Not Not Entitled Just because Princess has a nice boat
Well Said 👍
@@code4forlife just my perspective 🤷
@@code4forlife I did say this was your experience. I will be interested if you found out the reason for the delays in boarding. I enjoy the reviews but this was my reaction to this one.
