      Nope. Goes into land fills. Dude have you not seen any documentation on the scam recycling is. Like 95% of our recycled crap goes back into land fills.

      Unfortunately, like prev said, plastic recycling is completely inefficient, but still better in a sanitary landfill than in the rivers polluting the entire waterway

      Yea until u realize that in the end its still going to a landfill which will eventually have runoffs leading into the ocean so no matter what all that work they did was basically just delaying the inevitable

    As long as you clean up their mess, they will continue to do what they have always done. There needs to be some education behind this to get people to stop treating water as a trash can.

    The new interceptor design works so well! I'm also glad that you put a second barrier in further downstream. You can see that some of the trash gets pushed through before it clogs itself.

      Not noticeable? In what way, because that system caught THIRTY SEVEN truck loads of straight trash in a matter of hours. I'd say that the mountain of trash that they trapped in the middle of the river is fairly "noticeable..."

    Living in an American city it was very rare to see a single piece of trash floating in the river/ocean or lakes…. the 1-2 times we did see one we would always pick it up and dispose of it properly.

    This is wonderful work and it should be expanded, as well as changing everything from single use plastics to either: compostable or made to be deposited. If every piece of packaging had a deposit value on it, it would not be thrown away, and if it was thrown away someone would collect it and make money off of it

    And yet in the states I just heard about a company dumping so much milk in an area for so long they created a basin of toxic liquid and refuse to do anything about it when the residents complained about the toxins getting into the crops.

    To me. Rivers and springs are the veins of the earth and all that plastic and just straight garbage is poison just clogging up the arteries, until one day the earth is gonna suffer a stroke. 😢
    Thanks to the people who are making efforts like this to rectify and reverse the damage that we so carelessly create. ❤

      Uma dica, estender uma rede la no fundo segurar as duas pontas do lado de fora e puxar tudo de uma vez, caso de certo, a barragem fica livre mais rapido

      Antes da barragem encher de lixo daria para eles prenderem uma rede na outra margem, ai encheu eles puxam daria pra segurar mais lixo antes de chamar a retro escavadeira ou ela faria o trabalho mais rapidamente por evitar o deslocamento a todo segundo pra buscar sujeira mais longe

    In the third world this is probably necessary in every river! In Europe or the USA, nobody throws rubbish into the rivers. Or only very small amounts...what a mess...

    Makes me think about our sewer systems and how they developed from back in the day. I wonder if in the future litter via waterways will be a thing of the past because of advances in technology

    I literally live near that river and I wasn't aware of the amount of trash that ends up there, it's really sad that most of us don't know about how polluted our environment really is. To the people that helped with this project: thank you so so much ❤

      I think they should put these nets right next to where they live so they can see/learn what they're causes to their/others' encampment & possibly face the consequences.

      This project does close to nothing if people don't change their habits. But this video can be a great tool to raise awareness. I think it's more important to educate people not to litter than pick up what they throw away so they think "some of us will take care of this"

    以前做海大專題報告就做過這個
    印象當初審的老師說立意良善,思維前瞻
    但是在台灣可行成本太高,而且會讓民眾更隨意丟垃圾
    不如減少塑料使用跟資源回收
    當下就很想說在台北市路上不管怎麼亂丟垃圾也不會飄到出海口
    現在的垃圾都馬是台灣一堆縣市互推不收垃圾
    才會被非法傾倒在一些河床或者山林中
    眼睛差點翻到膝蓋去

      Should give the award to countries that don't throw their trash in the river. And yes they exist. We have clean rivers here, and no need for such blockades because we don't fill them with garbage.
