Wow. Those pipes are great! I have found that with knives they may sharpen to a razor edge but don’t hold that edge long. That’s great for that little guy!
Hey Chad!, great to see a new video from you. Your professional knife sharpening buddy here, glad to hear your Bradford is doing better now. When knife companies finish grind after heat treat, and sharpen them, they tend to use high speed belt grinders, with medium-high grit belts that produce a lot of heat. That leads to the brittle edges ( i couldnt remember if i explaned that or not ). Ill have to check out those knives you mentioned. 80crv2 is a great high carbon steel. Youll have to pay attention that you dont end up with nasty orange rust ( which leads to pitting ), since there isnt much chromium in 80crv2. NitroV is also a good steel, i have a couple of custom fixed blades in NitroV. Its more stainless, but not as easy to get a screaming sharp edge as the 80crv2. Wow, you did an awesome job bringing those pipes back to life!
Thanks for all the great info as usual. That makes a lot of sense on the belt sharpening. The fit and finish on the very good knife company knives are top notch. I've got some blade butter this guy called it from a handmade cigar cutter i bought it's to help keeping it from rusting I'll use on the 80crv blades.
