  • Cerro Lodge was the last stop on our holiday. We chose it not just because it is a great Lodge for birders but also because it is an easy drive to the airport from here.
Cerro Lodge has a very good bird list, over 230 species if you include the local tracks and trails. And of course it is on the edge of Carara National Park and close to the Mangroves and Tarcoles River.
A major draw for this area and Cerro Lodge are the Scarlet Macaws, which I believe are daily visitors to the Lodge.
Some may find the outside bathrooms a little disconcerting. Completely hidden from view of course but easily accessible to creeping, crawling, hopping, slithering and flying critters. We loved it, especially the sounds of the night.
