Mustang Mach 1 fastback... 1971 or 2. Red like that, hard top. That car loved mountain roads. My father told me buying a red sports car meant that every cop out there would be watching.... never got a ticket in it though. I did get stopped, but he was going the opposite direction and couldn't clock my speed (which was just under 100 mph at the time). Nice older guy. He asked me where I was going and I told him Flagstaff. Then he said 'Going a little fast, weren't you?' I smiled and said I didn't think I should comment on that. He just told me to be careful, and that Flagstaff wasn't going anywhere.
The axe murderer discussion made me think of a classic comedy movie So I married an Axe Murderer that was filmed in San Fran. It stars fellow Canuck Mike Myers and he plays his Scottish dad who has some hilarious lines. Not sure if you have seen it but definitely worth checking out
Donna and her husband seem super nice and I love their house in Scott's Valley. I grew up a stone's throw away from there and miss it and Santa Cruz. How nice of them to invite you to stay! I hope that you got to experience Santa Cruz. And did you ride the Giant Dipper? If you've ever seen the film Lost Boys, it was filmed in Santa Cruz.
It was very generous of Donna to have you for dinner and put you up for the night. She has a beautiful home. There are two types of jays in California: scrub jays and Steller's jays. The one you described sounds like a Steller's jay. They have a crest, and their heads are so dark they're almost black. They're in the crow family, and can make a lot of noise.

Love watching your American adventures through your Scottish eyes. Great video you guys and Kudos to Donna and her husband for representing American hosting!
I admire the fact that you are taking time to see California from the top down, but I think you missed it with regard to your understanding of the California vibe. The rag top Mustang is an American icon. Comparing it to your Tesla is like comparing apples to oranges. The sound of the engine alone creates a visceral reaction that you simply cannot generate with an e-vehicle. When driving the California coast in a Mustang convertible, top down, music pumping, wind in your hair, sun on your face -- there's really no comparison. And yes, I'm a SoCal beach girl and I own a red mustang convertible lol Enjoy the rest of your stay in the Golden State and safe travels :)

This was just delightful, thanks so much for sharing it. I felt like an unseen guest in Donna and Phillip's utterly charming home. They seemed like truly lovely people and such excellent hosts, I'm glad you were all able to make this happen. :)
Highway 1 is such a fun drive!! Greetings from the edge of the Rockies in UT. We've been getting roasted in the heat here the last two months, and an oceanside trip seems like a dream at the moment. Enjoy! Maybe you'll plan a trip to the southwest or intermountain region at some point? We're not big on city attractions, but the landscapes are fantastic. And since you said you liked road trips 😉
Excellent score! Only could be more iconic if it were an old Woody with surfboards, seeing as you're cruising the PCH. The reason for the cold wind - and icy seawater, should you go swimming - is the Humboldt Current. The current come up out of the West Pacific, around past the Aleutian Islands, down the PNW coast, and then down the California coast, dragging arctic cold with it. Also, lots of nutrients, making for some incredibly rich sealife.
Just starting to watch this video. Great. The Mustang is a prize and powerful. Don't get carried away with the power. You could get speeding tickets. Highway Patrol watch for cars with power and are ready to jump.

The Mustang won't be anywhere near as fast as a Tesla. But I would way rather drive a Mustang GT with Performance Package and a manual. Not a big fan of convertible soft tops. When I was in high school I had a Mustang ... except back then it was a weak 4-banger economy car that could barely maintain speed uphill 🤣 Loved it though. Had to figure out for myself how to drive a stick shift in order to get around.
haha brilliant - one thing about them, they are thirsty!
Sweet Ride! Especially for a Coast trip. BTW, Welcome to my neck of the woods. Thank Laurence for turning me on to you.
Absolutely love that part of CA that Donna and Phillip are in. Even the air just feels great
What a pretty place Donna has🏞💕 ty Donna for taking such great care of two really great people, Shaun and his lovely Wife💖.
Man we're missing out on all the fun! What a great time eatin cherries and surrounded by lots of God's great earth🌲🌳🐦 w/great company too!🌠💞💞
God Bless You All!
Aww shucks! Thank you for your kind words!
@@Paulsapartment Love You Donna!🥰💞💞💞🌟
I have a silver Mustang and I love it! Donna's home is lovely especially with all the nature surrounding and wild life! Bbq looked delicious and the fruit yummy! Most Americans are just like Donna!
This was just delightful, thanks so much for sharing it. I felt like an unseen guest in Donna and Phillip's utterly charming home. That garden is spectacular and the attention to detail is apparent, as it all looks like it simply grew there on it's own. They seemed like truly lovely people and such excellent hosts, I'm glad you were all able to make this happen. :)
Thanks!
I LOVE the PCH. It is a beautiful drive
Dark woods... y'all have a funny idea of dark. I saw much in the way of sunlight....
Thanks Donna and your hubby!👍 You're still a Rock Star!
Awww thanks! ;)
Donna and her husband (not sure if I heard his name) were very kind. Their property is beautiful. I have heard of her band. Very impressed!
Thanks! and I need to fix the naming now! LOL, my hubby's name is Phillip, and my band's name was Pauls Apartment! ;)
🎶 I bought a '34 wagon and we call it a woody.... 🎶
Just starting to watch this video. Great. The Mustang is a prize and powerful. Don't get carried away with the power. You could get speeding tickets. Highway Patrol watch for cars with power and are ready to jump.
What a wonderful episode. I loved it. You had wonderful hosts. Such nice people. I felt right at home with them. Have a fantastic journey
Thanks, Francesca!
So exciting, you got to drive a mustang down Highway 1, and stay with wonderful host like Donna and Phillip...quite memorable don't you think. Looking forward to the next part, Thank you for taking us along.
So memorable and we had such a great time 😊
You're in my neighborhood... pardon me, "NEIGHBOURHOOD". I walk to Capitola Beach almost every day. The property that I live on has Giant Redwood trees, squirrels, coyotes, hummingbirds, Stellar's jays, and a plethora of other flora and fauna. I AM BLESSED 🙏 I AM GRATEFUL ❣️
My wife and I drove the PCH in 2015 from LA to Crescent City. We noticed an inordinate number of Mustangs all along the trip. You must have fit right in!
This is a great post (like always). It's like I'm on this journey with you guys. What a Beautiful home. I think it's wonderful that you stayed at one of your fans homes.
She has a very cool place! Love your videos ❤️
Donna's home looks lovely! And the Mustang is gorgeous!
Ohio girl here! I remember Paul's Apartment. Awesome!
LOVE this - I’m sure Donna will too 😊
@@shaunvlog Some friends and I went up around Springfield Ohio and saw them on a farm for New Years Eve in the early 2000's. I can't remember the name of the farm, but it was a lot of fun!
@@ephinyus I remember that gig at Brother Bears Farm!!
Oh wow! My husband and I are doing this next month!
2000's: Don't take rides from strangers. Don't meet strangers from the internet.
2020's: Literally summoning strangers from the internet to give you a ride. And also staying in their houses 🙂
Who says the world is such a scary place!?
Highway 1 is such a great drive. I was able to experience it a few years ago.
How exciting for you and in a red mustang. Enjoy the ride!❤️👍
What a gracious and lovely couple! My people are all over that area and I've always loved Scotts Valley. (Shaun, pretty sure Donna's not into axe-murdering. Just a hunch.)🙂
LOL, your hunch is correct!
Well, they had neatly cut firewood at the entrance of the house. They are definitely deft with an axe
The cherries were FANTASTIC this year! Try to find some fresh peaches too.
oooh, looking forward to seeing what you think of the corndog haha.
That is the car you need in order to drive Route 66. An epic meeting of two American legends!
Love watching your videos about California while I am in Scotland. I head home to California in the morning.
OMG Shaun! LOL. You may not have noticed, but the two hamburger patties and corn cob were arranged a certain way… that has been known to be an invitation to… you know…
Donna and her husband are hippies and hippies support free love.
Hysterical! You were safe the whole time, Donna and her husband are nice people.
😮 I’m way too innocent for all this. And yeah they were very nice! Truth is I met so many lovely people on our trip.
LOL I swear that wasn't on purpose!
As another Tesla Model 3 owner and former muscle car owner I love you slagging off that Mustang . Great video as always
Had to be done 😅 the Mustangs are beautiful and sound good, and tbh I’d probably have a 1960s one if someone was offering for a decent price, but knowing I could smoke literally any Mustang model 0-60 is quite satisfying 😜
Loved seeing you in an American muscle car. Nice going!
How funny that you said that about your parent's place. I was literally thinking how much it made me think of your parent's home before you mentioned the same. I live in the Napa area in the mountains. Kind of between Napa and Sonoma County. I LOVE Santa Cruz area! So many wonderful childhood memories there. Camping and the town, boardwalk... and the redwoods! Such a cool area. Check out Big Basin!
I'm so happy you got to see Scott's Valley and the beautiful Santa Cruz mountains! I grew up going to our cabin in MT. Hermon right next door. What cool people you got to stay with!
Beautiful home Donna! Thank you for sharing with our favorite Scottish couple (🤔 with Jamie & Clair running close behind😂🤣😂🤣)
It was our pleasure!
@@Paulsapartment 🤗💖😁
Your friend Donna and her husband certainly live in an idyllic place. Such interesting people!
Loved this video! I wanted to say that the band poster you showed at the end? I've been to Peach's in Yellow Springs many times. We adore Yellow Springs! It's a fantastic town. I unfortunately never heard Paul's Apartment play live but I did recognize the band name as I live in Ohio.
what a small world we live in! Yes we were the original house band for Peaches when they first expanded their bar and closed the drive though.
If you want thick woods, you gotta see Michigan next time you're over. Deep, dark and cool! And don't miss Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lake shore!
I live near your host ,over in Silicon Valley ...glad you are exploring Northern California
What a beautiful place, beautiful people and a beautiful vlog.
PERFECT car for your trip!! Topless all the way down the coast.... no better way to do that drive. 😍🥰
I found you because I was looking up Scottish accents to *attempt* a Scottish accent in my next D&D campaign. I'm a walking Monty Python joke: A barbarian Rabbit person. All white. Yeah. Killer rabbit. Eric Marwood of .... get this... the Tomnadashin Mines. XD
She kinda looks like Lucy lawless "xena the warrior princessc
Others have told me that but not for awhile lol
@@Paulsapartment ooh snap what's shakin Donna. Really? You are still an almost mirror image.
@@Paulsapartment are you on Instagram by any chance?
@@kingjellybean9795 nope you tube i am
This had me smiling through the whole video. My first car was a 1967 Mustang so I have a soft spot for those vehicles. Wonderful post! Thank you!
The Mustang won't be anywhere near as fast as a Tesla. But I would way rather drive a Mustang GT with Performance Package and a manual. Not a big fan of convertible soft tops. The southern California sun will burn me up in about five minutes anyway (I have Scottish ancestry). San Diego is in line with Morocco, relative to the equator.
What a wonderful adventure you and Teka had driving through California! I am enjoying every minute! ❤
A Scott in Scott's Valley.
If you're name was Scott, then it would be trully meta. Scott the Scott in Scott's Valley. 🙃
So happy that you enjoyed an amazing adventure in California!!

When I was just out of college (1972), my boyfriend had a red Mustang, which he called the Muskrat.
