I actually just beat this level right now! It's insanely hard! It took me about 20 times! But I did notice a pattern. The easy coins that are out in the open I get on the first lap. The coin inside the tree trunk I get on my second lap. The coin at 1:31 I get it on my third lap. The turtle is the best driver!
As a kid this track became easy as I grew accustomed to playing it every single day without pause after school... but as a full grown woman? x.x "HOW THE HELL DID I DO THIS AS A KID AGAIN!?!?!?!?!?" "SO EASILY!?!?!?!?!?!?"
This level and the first race with the wizpig is the hardest thing in the game. As a kid, I could not pass this level. Now I'm 19, and after 34526 tries, I finally passed it. The wizpig, after 134889347 tires, I beat that MOFO! Is a good experience to play this game as a grown up, almost brings your childhood back.

I.....despised...this level with a passion. Whenever I would try a strategy I would hit a wall or something. It took me a week in order to finally find my strategy to beat this. I gotta tell you, you need damn near flawless driving for this one.

In spaceport Alpha, just get 10 bananas, go through all the zipper and try not to bump into anything. when you go to the part where everything is shooting at you, go as low as you can go to the air zipper in the bottom. Then just stick as close as possible to the right wall and i can assure you you will get a good boost and not bump into anything at that part.
I'd say this took 70 or so tries for me. Eventually you get familiar with the turns and power-ups. I grabbed all but one coin (the one on the right at the log part) in the first lap as well as grabbing as many bananas as I could. If you catch enough zippers you can catch up to whoever is in first (probably Diddy) with the magnet you get after the third coin.
Jeez, this was the ONE race in the game I never won. Unfortunately my N64 finally kicked the bucket last year, maybe I'll have to pick up a used one some time and finally fight the Wizpig...
I still dont have wizpig 2 unlocked, i have to finish the silver coin challenges. Ever since i unlocked T.T, i happened to be to lazy to beat them. I just do trophy and regular races in the tracks section And replay boss battles and the minigames.
This and Darkmoon Caverns are the hardest tracks for me (but I still had no problems beating the silver coin challenges) however both tracks have awesome music so that's a plus.
I never figured out why Krunch is competitive on this course. This, for me at least, has some of the toughest turning in the game, and his character has lots of speed with little control.
To get all the Silver Coins on this level and still finish first with Krunch, one had to be a Jedi Knight. Well, maybe a Sith. A Jedi only goes so far.

But I got it but skidding off the first zipper in the coin on the left and the second zipper into the coin on the right, drift into that third coin, grab the two on the log path, and go for the log shortcut coin ALL on the first lap. Just hope you're not too far behind, and hope for the best.

I have tried this level /restarted about 100 times in total at least, and I still can't do it. I'm actually tempted to bin the game now because I've lost all enjoyment of it doing this level. Why the fuck Rare had to make it so annoying I'll never understand.

Today l beat this level of hell , for a second time, the first time was in january of 99, both times with pipsy, for me the trick is getting all the coins minus the one on the second log tunel, this is for me the last to get, and focus to get all the bananas you can , on my first lap i got 11 and on the last lap i got 13, and and get super boost off the zippers without pressing the accelerator, don't make any mistakes, the race has to be so PERFECT, finalizing the last lap i pass the first place with a missile. IT TOOK ME SO MANY TRIES !!!
Dude the guy/clock/stopwatch is retardedly fast. I overlapped everyone in ancient lake, and by the second lap in star city, the first bridge you cross at the beginning, i fell down, drove back to the beginning of the bridge and continued which took me around 6 seconds to get back, and the bots still didnt even come close to me. By the time i was done with the race, the bots were still on the other side of the whole map. Getting T.T is a pain in the ass but when you get him, you are unstoppable!
even with da tips u gave, i still cant beat it. for one thing, my start-out spot, (the place my racer is at in da line of racers at the start), isn't in da same place/spot u started out at. second, da racers i am up against dont seem as slow as da ones u were racing for sum reason. unlike with u, they zoom infront of me all at once, even when i do the zoom start. also, no-matter how many bananas i get, i dont seem 2 be going any faster. also da other racers keep grabbing them before i do, since they always get ahead of me for sum reason. i would welcome anyone into my home dat can beat this level for me, jus so i can get da last trophy race 2 try and get Drumstick.

I'm playing on the N64 as Tip Tup, I do exactly as you do with the zippers and everything, and yet a couple of the characters are ALWAYS caught up with me during the bumpy green section on the first lap! I've lost it with this game, absolutely hate it now, sorry.
this game is unfair, in this level when you trip the enemy the keep racing like they never been slipped. There is fair play and then there is sheer unnecessary repetitiveness. Finishing this game isn't just worth the effort and should be avoided. I love the handling of the game except it just isn't worth playing if there game is gonna cheat.

Huh are you playing this on N64 or DS? I'm using an emulator and whatever you're playing has a much better framerate and the graphics look better...
