    That is so useful - thanks. I’ve always been confused by the need to keep your right arm so close to your body during the backswing; it never feels natural or powerful, and it doesn’t look like the swings of pro golfers. Now I understand why - I’m looking forward to trying what you suggest 👍

      Tiger Woods is one of the most gifted athletes of all time.
      Saying that is like saying "John Rahm barely takes the club past vertical, so swing how he does".
      Does the typical pro golfer keep his trail arm pinned? Does the typical scratch player?
      Yes or no?

    • @JC-zq8vk
      @JC-zq8vk 4 місяці тому +1

      @@fontyyy I’d say there is a mix. Point is there isn’t a right or wrong way to swing which is proven by golf coaches with different opinions and views on the golf swing and players where some things work and some thing’s don’t and it’s different for everyone.

      Tiger woods does not pin his trail arm to his body, he’s trail arm dominant and his arms comes away for a fraction of a second then he shallows and pivots his hips at the same time. You can validate this by looking at any slow motion swing. All pros do this, the degree to how much gap they leave varies but none of them are pinned all the time

    Add in the 'trigger bump forward' and you'll have Matthew Wolfe's swing ! LOL. Still a good drill.

    Great video Matt.
    There's some merit for tucking something under your arm for chipping and pitching maybe?

    • @CoachLockey
      @CoachLockey  4 місяці тому +2

      Yeah that’s ok, but for full swing it’s a no no for me

      I was just wondering if those comments you were referring to were mixing up a tip they heard regarding pitching or chipping.

    I think the guy meant head cover under the lead armpit not trail. In any event, the head cover under the armpit never did much for me, l;ol Great channel

    To be fair Hogan basically did that and Patrick Reed and Tommy Fleetwood use that drill . So I think saying that drill sucks is wrong because there are many different ways to swing a club . Everyone swings differently, it’s not a one size fits all theory. Love the content.

    I kept my trail arm pinned down for a long time, it seemed to help with consistency when I was young, slim and fast enough anyway. But as time and age took their toll my drive dropped down to not much over 200 yards.
    And I don't want to end up being that senior with the steady 170 yard driver "chip" who never misses the fairway. I'd rather take a full swing, hit it 250+ and if I lose the odd ball, that's fine.
    I think it was a Crossfield video showing how wide and high Rory goes that encouraged me to experiment.

    Coach, I need your help finding a course vlog. I just have a vauge memory of it from the start. First hole, water on the right. You end up right side I think, maybe close to a bush or something. Then you hit a great shot, perhaps it was an eagle even!?
    It was abroad with Parfield and perhaps some more guys. Just want to watch that magic again :)

      Credit to another viewer who found it on Parfields channel. And for anyone wondering, It was not the first hole of the round, but the first hole of that part (2) of the vlog.

    It’s very interesting how different golf coaches view the golf swing, lots of coaches talk about tucking the right elbow and keeping the right elbow tight to the body with more of a compact swing kinda like Tigers current swing. For me keeping my right elbow tucked and a more compact swing helps my path attack angle and still can get the more out there pretty good. Fascinating how different swings fit and work differently for folks.

    • @CoachLockey
      @CoachLockey  4 місяці тому

      I would say keep the elbow tight which will give you trail shoulder external rotation and “tucked in” 👍
