This is the story of the world famous Sitar Maker family and the globally desired instrument, that plays the single note of “Sa” where all of music begins. For nine generations the Sitar Maker family of Miraj has been crafting Tanpuras. Sitar Maker. This is their surname, a titular one handed from generation to generation. From the humble pumpkins of Africa to the instrument at the heart of classical Indian music, the tanpura’s journey is one of magical transformation. A commitment for life, one instrument travels with every musician for his entire lifetime.

This channel is a gem in UA-cam. While in India people are leaving behind their traditions for Western shallow stupidity, people like myself pray for India to never loose its essence. This video is about Tanpuras (सतार), and we can hear Kaushiki herself letting us know the importance of the instrument. She has a lot of other videos were people praise her, I do too. Don't go on calling out people like that.

These cities have always been famous in the field of musical instruments worldwide.
These towns and their markets used to be crowded with music lovers, but things have changed rapidly. The youth are not interested in taking up the business of their descendants because of the low return and no profit at all. After lockdown, many sitarmakers have given up their businesses; many of them couldn't even afford to feed their families. It's sad to see their condition. Many popular singers worldwide use their instruments at a very cheap price and don't even bother giving them credit.
I still remember the days whenever I used to pass by the streets of sitarmakers, my ears were blessed by the melody of their instruments..
It's disheartening to hear about the current state of the music instrument industry in Miraj. The decline in interest among the youth and the financial struggles faced by sitarmakers is indeed a sad situation. we are very happy that we at virtual Bharat can keep these memories alive for the future
