I’d stay on the ship too. 100%. once in a humanity chance to experience meeting another civilization. It’s nice to see alien species regarded not as an invasion but an ally
For sure!
I mean, that ship is only 3.7 *billion* years old, at least.
& surely after all this time that civilization hasn't evolved/devolved into who knows what, died out, migrated (again), forgotten everything about our Sol, etc etc...
So yeah, what can go wrong? ☠

@@brandocalrissian3294 not particularly! Who knows maybe it would take you to the surface of a star or black hole. You’d get to see things nobody may EVER see, meet a species so intelligent we can’t even imagine. That’s worth the risk of death to admire the cosmos in my opinion.
I agree if I didn't have anything to return to why not but that's where it gets tricky would you for example leave everything behind, your family, your kids, your parents, friends etc going to a place you don't even know what to expect of?
This movie has nothing to be ashamed of. A sci-fi with a solid script, and it has a message. The cast is top notch and the music is Morricone. The cgi is dated allright, but it's a tool, not the goal. Besides, the film is actually 23 years old now.
I completely agree with you Benjamin! This movie has stood the test of time and continues to impress with its solid script and meaningful message. The talented cast and the inclusion of Morricone's music enhance the overall experience. While the CGI may be dated by today's standards, it's important to remember that the film is over two decades old. Despite that, it remains a remarkable sci-fi movie that has nothing to be ashamed of!
See you in the next recap :)
Crazy to think this movie is that old. I remember seeing it at age 7. Was super sad as a kid when Gary sinise’s character didn’t go back with them.
It's a cringe scrift with too many unwanted chit chat, terrible music, and most of the time all scenes are cringe. Alien 1987 is way ahead of this cringe movie. 3/10
Morricone music is still the best, timeless
@@tetzet3254 It's still much better than Red Planet, which came out around the same time.

You know the filmmakers didn't do their research when what supposed to be nucleotides become chromosomes.

Yeah... They made chromosomes smaller than the DNA, I doubt they know what are nucleotides and what are chromosomes.

I am laughing my head off at this comment that has already been posted under every, bloody astronomy video on UA-cam, and still banking the likes. How stupid is humanity?
I think it's really cool that they took a real world theory and turned it into a movie like this. There is a theory just like this movie subtract the meteor and add nukes. It's said that Mars wasn't always the red planet. When you really get into the thought of how all of this came to be, life becomes very exciting.
That's really cool! I love the idea of Mars having a nuclear war, can you imagine if that actually happened?
I wish they would make a sequel to Mission to Mars and tell Jim's story about meeting the ancestors and going back to Earth
Maybe writers were not able to explain that how the Martians were able to travel to the next galaxy but not able to defend their planet against the simple asteroid.
@@mrhungerpastor May be a question about the size of the "simple asteroid"! As a planet killer he may have been effing large!
lol you def have zero imagination simple way to do it is the Martians were two different types one being smart and techno geeks peaceful the other being Fighters to defend mars from intruder races who mean them harm, over time the fighters feel like lower class (maybe they were as they are experiments) so they opened the defense system and allowed the asteroid so they could become the master race or something
They did, it was called independence Day.
@@rockzen8050 Then I would write it like this. Just like every parent wants to kick out the grown-up children out from the home, Martian government caused the collision in order to push the population to emigrate from overpopulated Mars.

So why didn't the Martians inhabit Earth in this case or they could just simply Terraformed back Mars to its previous state even though their Technology is Super Advanced enough to Travel in Extra-Galactic Space, also worth noting that Milky Way is big enough to house thousands of Habitable Worlds that will be similar to Earth since they have Advance Technology to Map out other Galaxy for Habitable Worlds. This Sci-Fi movie does not make sense whatsoever and is a truly old-school kinda sci-fi trend of that time.
Thank you for your comment!
Someone ate an apple and screwed everything up. Then they got banished to earth to make it great again. They landed in the Middle East and decided to make the world great again. Thus, MAGA was born. And the rest of the world suffered because of it. The End.
As I understood, they need water, and that collision made Mars what it is now, no water, so Earth was offering a better environment, but you are correct, why go to another galaxy, even with the speed which is close to the speed of light they will need a lot of time to get to the first galaxy... Of course, time will be very slow if they travel with a speed very close to the speed of light so they will need 2 years, one year to accelerate to that speed, that is if they can stand only 1g of artificial gravity caused by acceleration and then time stops, and 1 year to decelerate.
But, yes, if they have such technology the can find suitable planets in this galaxy.

There is one mistake in this movie...Woodie is opening his helmet, and yes, a vacuum will kill him, but he will not freeze, at least not so fast because they are in a vacuum...there is no conduction of heat, no molecules...
There's actual videos of people in space without a space suit and you are worried about a movie where a guy takes his spacesuit helmet off. Maybe leave your comment on a space x or nasa video instead
@@darnitdizzle There is an actual video of people in a vacuum in space? What does that mean, you think people can survive in a vacuum? And why shouldn't I point out something that is obviously wrong? NASA and Space X know what happens if someone takes the vizir, as that astronaut, but those who made that movie, those usually have advisors... Or you think we should not react when we see a dumb mistake?

I should point out that astronauts preparing for such an historic mission would be kept in isolation and not allowed to socialise with their friends and family before heading into space. A bug picked up at a gathering could immobilise the crew and jeopardise the mission.
Curious on what part of this movie they got the thumbnail for this video, is it clickbait?
Thank you for your comment :)
Well…
Besides the obvious errors within the technical aspects of the movie … the storyline is touching on something that in science is debated for a LOOOOOOONG time… how did life get on earth…?
The transfer from DNA from Mars to Earth is only ONE of the possibilities…
The famous „Face on mars“ really did exist… for a few years … when on old pictures the surface of a mars mountain looked like a face… from far far away … then… the instruments got better and probes got closer … and … it’s a mountain…😂
…
PS. one criticism to the content creator… the picture you are teasing your video with … is NOT from the movie… why ..?
excellent movie... shows in the best way the Martian humanity origins theory
It's interesting to see that LT Dan made it onto Mars, than went onto a Totally New and different Galaxy!!!
This movie could’ve really benefited from a scientific consultant…even a high school kid taking bio 1! I’m a scientist and the biology part was just sooo unforgivably wrong i couldn’t get past it! You can’t look at a 3D DNA structure and tell if it’s human, so that line when he says “that DNA looks human” had me grinding my teeth but also…You can’t see chromosomes on a DNA structure! DNA is just nucleotides bound together with a phosphate backbone and it winds into a superstructure that becomes the chromosome…there’s more but this was the killer for me
Get over it, It's a movie not a science lecture,
that's why they say ignorance is a bliss..when u dont know these things u said..all u do is sit back and enjoy..
@ImageInk I feel your comment. Unfortunately, the majority of humanity are scared of knowledge and just content with living the reptilian life. It's profoundly frustrating. 💣

advanced enough to travel to different parts of the galaxy but unable to stop a rock flying towards their planet
Skill issue\]
Overexaggerating doesn't even cut it for your statement. Traveling different parts of the galaxy vs stopping a meteorite are two wholly different things. And they're not that advanced to stop an asteroid colliding into their planet.
The first 2/3rds are good as a rescue movie, but the ending becomes a pretty silly ‘ancient aliens’ cliche, like a bad mix of 2001 and Close Encounters. But man, that scene where they’re approaching the Mars satellite on a tether and Woody sacrificed himself is still a brilliant suspense sequence. Too bad they couldn’t stick with that vibe whole way through and come up with a better ending.
i like the 3/3 of the film. it makes you think & wonder about your/my existence. as a good sci fi film should..
This movie gave us one of the best Gary Sinise performances ever.
We certainly agree! His performance was amazing and it's one of our all-time favorites.
Gary Sinise wasn’t able to go to space in Apollo 13 due to illness and was almost prevented from going to mars in this movie too.
I remember I saw this in theaters back in day.
Oh it must have been nice!
This movie is loosely based on a true story about the gigantic face on the surface of the mars which NASA tried to simply ignore.
it isnt a face, its just different elevations, that from afar look like a face, because we are "programmed" to identify faces.
The film here seems to be a mirror image with most badges, signs etc. reversed- very disconcerting to watch.
It i to avoid copyright issues :) hope it is not too disturbing :)
