You’ve summed it up perfectly Pete! I still don’t get these high performance SUVs. Yes, you may as well get one with the 3.0. diesel engine. If you want performance and space, the RS6 makes more sense!
But there is a market for these vehicles and thank you for bringing us along again… really enjoyed the Cotswolds and catching glimpse of Dame Darcey 🥰 Cheers, Tom

Fully agree about the styling. When you see an RS6, you know it's an RS6. wider and looks so aggressive. This looks too much like a sleeper.

Had a few Audi quattros - the last was an allroad BiTdi A6. Fantastic car and quicker on the road than Audi portrayed (I suspect to protect the performance credentials of S4s etc). It was nose heavy so understeer was evident if you pressed on but with the air suspension the ride was always great and it could do 40 mpg easily. Then I got a Maserati Levante S (wanted to get away from dirty diesel). Glorious car, handled well (50:50 weight distribution)…. But you get into the daily driving being 20 mpg and a ‘good’ long run maybe 26 or 27 mpg, Gone PHEV now (I have solar panels and a Tesla battery) and it’s a good fit for me. Short trips are free if I can charge off the roof or very low cost on an EV tariff and I have a fast SUV if I want to dip into it - Volvo XC60 T8 (455 ps combined so sub 5 to 60)

Lay the bike on its left, to protect the derailier , and turn the bars so the font wheel drops between the front seat and the lowered rear seats. Place blanket over bars to protect seat from brake levers etc.

    Hi Ped
Not disappointed with this review🤭 however the spec, the price, and the fuel consumption 😥😥. I have loved all the Audi’s I have owned over the years, and your review confirms my satisfaction with my SQ5, smaller yes, but at least you can fit in a supermarket car park. It performs reasonably well with its 340 ps. The economy does not break the bank, mid 30 to 40 mpg without trying and 27mpg towing twin axle weighing in @ 2000kg. Reckon I have a bargain😉And it looks good in Navarro Blue metallic, with pan roof & 21” wheels! @ half the price new🤭

I came out of an B9.5 RS4 in to an SQ8, fast, comfy and full of tech but it was just too big and didn't look special enough. Everyone who knows, knows an RS4 or and RS6 whether they are in front of you or behind you on the road, they just stand out, the SQ8 didn't and I couldn't come to terms with the false exhaust tips which I feel is letting Audi as a premium brand down. The V8 is an absolutely superb engine having had it in couple of S and RS cars in the past, but it is like running a small country. Needless to say my love affair with the SQ8 was short lived, great first date, followed by a bit of a fumble then we fell out and had to go our separate ways, all the space of 3 months. Back in an RS4 where I should have stayed, bike in the back or bike on the roof, plenty quick enough, looks good, doesn't cripple you at the pumps and you get the recognition from people who know.

800Nm divided by 1.356 gives a figure of 590 Ft lbs, that's a decent Ferrari of torque right there! But I'm thinking of getting my Astra 1.9 Cdti Estate Caravan Design jacked up so I can see through from behind these cars when I'm up their chuff trying to overtake. Stealth is more my style, and mine still has it's basic look and badges, so no one realises that it has zero mods at all! Oh and I love your Trek Rail (9.9 X0 AXS T-Type Gen 4 ?), and just watched the vid you made when you collected it a second time.

I like this SSUV based on the top Q8 like the lower SQ8 model both with a sloping rear roofline ‘sportsback’ and the SQ7 7-seater to their 5-seater with two folding seats from the rear luggage compartment, but with more head room in the rear as it has a roofline like the Porsche Sport Tourismo Panemara compared to the coupé sloping rear roof. Forget all the negative comments about the price: About the same as most Porsche low and mid range 911, but practical (seats 5 or 7 plus luggage)and room for a family to travel miles in comfort with luggage. Compared to the Porsche Cayenne and Lamborghini Urus which use the same VW Group petrol TFSI 4L bi-turbo V8 the SQ7; SQ8 and RSQ8 do, its an absolute bargain. It’s out of the league of the detractors: You can’t get a Lamborghini Urus at its retail of £180K. A top RSQ8 Vorsprung spec is about £125K - £129K and the best value Vorsprung SQ7 at Crewe Audi (all then dealerships are part of Crewe based Swansway Group) and the main UK Lamborghini dealer sells used Urus form £226K - £260K and this brand new for £125K currently two brand new top spec Vorsprung models with sliding panoramic roof one in pearlescent Daytona Grey at Carlisle Audi and one just in at Blackburn Audi but in Nardo Grey (both named after test tracks - Nardo is Fiat’s old test track in Italy now owned by Porsche). And the Mythos Black metallic SQ7 at Crewe Audi all come with 3-year-Audi Warranty and 3-year Road side assistance from the AA or RAC. They mentioned the SQ7 in the latest Collecting Cars Podcast, that the SQ7 is used to go skiing in. Becky Evans had a RS6 and it and the RS7 and S8 all have the same engine and she said she spent about £1,500 in petrol in 6 weeks driving around Ireland last October 2022. The basic SQ8 is about £90 K, but you have to specify equipment that comes as standard on the RSQ8: They both have air suspension but the mild hybrid 48V driven by electric motors to keep the car flat around high speed corners has to be specified in the SQ8 as the S Sports pack and comes with night infra red vision for countryside driving.

great review as always, but for that money you can have a faster(2.95 to 62), quieter lotus Eletre SUV (electric) or if you want 4.5 sec to 62 and 373 miles range, you can save a further £30,000 and get the 'base' model. my point is, for those that want all that RSQ8 offers but wouldn't sleep at the mpg.... there are options that are cheaper, faster, same or better spec, and quieter

Wheels can make or break a design. Those on this car are horrendous. They look like wheels you would put your winter tyres on. If I paid 114k on the car I'd give it back. Audi have lost the plot with their performance cars of late. Too expensive for what you get with better faster less expensive offerings from the other German manufacturers. I love the gold colour option available not the rep. standard blue. BTW 600 PS is about 590bhp. Until the recent performance model of the RS6 was launched their RS models lagged behind their competitors power wise and while BMWs typically developed more power than their ratings the Audis just make their rated power or even a little less. Audi RS line are the ultimate moneymaking machines.
