I’ve come to the conclusion of this after watching some of your videos and personal opinions: Japanese society tend more to America as they see it as free land to escape from the strict society while Americans like Europe because of the way it’s portrayed as a dream place and Europeans prefer Japan because it’s a more perfect society and more civilised. So in the end it’s a circle made by the way of portraying of our societies and always going for the things that’s missing to achieve our dream .
Hit the nail on the head
Rather we are all trying to find happiness like sri M said
I don't think that Europeans prefer Japan...
You're right. I'm in the States, and almost everybody here wants to go to Europe, while a lot of people in Asia think America is the ideal place (half my family is from South Korea, and that's a common answer there. Even in the dramas), and my family in Seoul tell us that it's becoming increasingly less unusual seeing Europeans settle in Korea than ever before, usually young people because of the K-wave.
However, visiting a place vs actually living/settling there are completely different things. Every place has its pros and cons, but we never realize that unless we actually live somewhere for a while, because we only ever see other countries through their media (movies, TV shows, music, etc.). A lot of non-Westerners who'd immigrated to America from poorer countries, even if they'd visited multiple times, sometimes end up disappointed when they decide to settle here and find out how expensive things are, that most of us Americans are actually broke and live in some small, boring town that nobody's ever heard of, and that life is not like Hollywood, and same goes for vice versa with lots of Westerners moving to Japan etc., and facing the same issues. It's ironic, but it's part of human nature to think that some other place has it better and/or it's exotic. Happiness is from within.
To be fair, though, I like Japanese food, anime, and very cute things, plus my grandmother was originally from Japan, so, personally, I'd like to visit Japan first. So much to see, lots of nice nature, cute people, and I definitely want to shop there, especially for their cute toys. Live there, though? No, not anymore. It's not all the fluff and cuteness we see on their media. The low crime rate is one of the reasons why I thought Japan was ideal, as well as much better manners compared to the States, but then I heard that it's the most expensive place, plus they do have their own set of other problems, like less diversity and the chaotic work schedules. Plus the language barrier, and the earthquakes...

Hello Takashii! Here in Brazil most people really like Japan! We have a lot of admiration for the education, culture, gastronomy and way of life of the Japanese people. I really want to visit Japan one day.

Interesting to see how many of them have been around the world already a lot. I visited various european countries + Turkey (for vacation), but not more. One day I wanna definitely visit Japan, the country I'm looking forward the most.
TAKASHI I HOPE YOU SEE THIS
Can you do a video where you ask Japanese people that have been to the USA what they thought about American people? If you do that please ask them where they went to, small town Maine is very different from urban California, we are very diverse in culture and behavior (for example New England is more reserved and quiet, Southerners are more friendly and loud, etc.)
Anyway, thank you for your videos.
Hey Takashii, I love your stuff. Never feel like you need to change anything about the channel. I love how simple and straightforward it is, without a bunch of unnecessary music and effects and such. Keep doing what you're doing.
Hey Takashii, well, here in Peru we´ve got a huge community of japanese people, after Brazil of course, a little show of that, I´ve got a ton of teachers of japanese background (nikkei) at my university. I like to take references of japanese society for example the respect for other´s space, appreciation for nature, good manners, family union and also the food and millenial history is awesome, greetings! :D A

That's why I'm grateful that I was already able to visit multiple places in Europe, Australia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore but sadly never Japan or Korea. And ever since I discovered the japanese and korean culture I just feel the urge to visit them. What I am looking most forward to is ofcourse the food and then probably the nightlife and meeting a lot of people when possible!!!
Japanese and Korean culture are not the same
@@sara.cbc92 almost same
"Which country do you love the most" is purely a function of soft power. Countries with the greatest soft power (read: reach and influence) will tend to rank high on that list. In other words, most people will have roughly the same answer to this kind of question. Outlier answers will come either from the well-traveled or the well-read, neither of which is a likely quality of the average person. I think this video is a pretty good demonstration of this.
this is so interesting
Soft power certainly plays a part. so does mass media and propaganda of a certain country.
True tho
@@sara.cbc92 Propaganda seems to weigh a lot on this specific case, I've seen a lot of Japanese people have this blind idea of the US when a lot of the crimes commited in Japan are from US bases on Japan, and even people from the US will openly tell you how New York sucks, and as a Mexican I don't even need anyone to tell me California is hell on earth, I was born knowing it is.
I guess so many movies making the piece of land that sole our countinent's name look so good really made an impression on the rest of the world..
@@gabrielteddy2588 Most of the crime committed in Japan isn't on American bases lol. Anyone who's actually been there knows their police force is pretty half assed. It's designed to look good externally, not actually function. If you don't believe me, you can find pdfs online of the Japanese Reforms they started awhile ago. They haven't done much yet. I can't speak directly for other bases, but Fussa is a very reputable one and popular with the locals. Okinawa is protested because of the air noise. Fussa has a yearly friendship festival which was very cool when I was there. You can read more on why Japan-American relations are high. Most of it actually dated back to the 1800s. Japanese and Americans quite literally are just compatible cultures. Not everything is some evil plot, sometimes people just get along.

Interesting questions and some surprising answers. Especially with the popularity of New York and LA, as they are very different form what one sees in films and TV programs. Being lucky enough to live in Japan, Korea, Germany and the US, traveling around to see places away from the tourist popular sites was always the greatest experiences. Just being able to visit other countries can be very educational, especially when one looks at what they may have heard about such places then actually seeing them. Looking forward to watching more of your content.
New York especially is so far off from TV lol
Hey Takashii!

As a person from a country popular with tourists I would never say that, because then the place wouldn’t be as accessible to me anymore
@@bUtLUtu Oh wow. That's actually a really great point too, didn't really think of that.

In fact it's one of our biggest industries which I had no idea about. Because of it, about a third of our entire population was born overseas. (primarily SEA & EU)
Japanese aren't going to Australia for a degree but as short-term exchange students. The quality of Australian universities is high but most Japanese who go on exchange to good Australian universities are attending good universities in Japan too. People who come to Australia for their education are usually from poorer countries with fewer opportunities to attend a good university at home.
