I have one and love it. I use it at our remote cabin as we don’t get any radio or TV there. I did some testing on it with some test equipment at work. I worked in telecommunications and have a GROL. I used a signal generator and monitored its receive sensitivity and it is good. My last position I worked in a gateway satellite earth station with all kinds of nice test equipment including about 15 different spectrum analyzers and signal generators that can modulated.
Thank you for a good presentation! I just bought this radio, and some oil lanterns etc. Things are going forward but Im going backward. Listening to radio in oil lamp! Beats Internet in electricity!

Hello from Atlanta Georgia I thought your platform was great what a great presentation on the pl-600 thank you once again my friend God bless and take care stay safe with the Coronavirus that's spreading around thank you so much it was a great video really enjoyed it
According to what I've read online, some people have complained that after a few years of operation The Tecsun PL660, just quits working, the internal power source on the circuit board just goes dead. Seems to be a design flaw, but the PL600 as featured in this video works well, I own a Pl600, for the last few years, the only thing I did was to replace the factory rechargeable batteries, with 2300 mah version. Great receiver, short wave is tricky, but it works, AM(mw) is amazing, especially with the after market am loop antenna(separate purchase)
Good overview - in my mind a pretty good portable for the used price these days if you can find one under $60. My only issue is it tends to overload - so don't attach direct wires to the whip or jack most of the time (there are cases where you will) - use inductance. I've actually used this radio for a QRP receiver during contests on CW.
Just getting into shortwave and bought this radio - what do you mean by inductance? A quick google search and I couldn't quite find anything helpful - if you wouldn't mind hitting me with a link that would be lovely!
Ruby it means using a wire loop of some sort near the whip to induce the signal in the radio like I did here with the Retekess ua-cam.com/video/IYsvAnK0hKo/v-deo.html
Ruby so if you put a long wire outside, have it feed into your room and create a loop of 8 loops about 4 inches in diameter and move it around your radio. The other end of the loop should drop to ground or ground side of a coax feed.
I bought the PL600in part due to your review. I immediately read the manual. I have no idea how to program this receiver because the manual is so poorly written! (I have several degrees in English, owned both a communications agency and publishing house and wrote manuals. I think I can recognize one that lacks information? The battery keeps flashing and bars appear. I haven't any idea of what it means. I can't set the memory, never got the short wave to work, etc, etc, Do you think you could review how to program/work the radio? Please!
Use the System Set instructions on page 15 and set the right capacity battery using the setting on page 5. My Tecsun brand batteries didn't last long so I changed to regular AA batteries. You might want to try getting some new rechargeable batteries with more capacity and use the same Systems set instructions to up the capacity the radio charger thinks it's using. I haven't used memory channels as I use this mostly as an HF receiver and I normally look up channels that should be broadcasting at whatever time I'm listening using a smart phone app. If new batteries don't work and you're still in the return window, send it back. You may have gotten a bad one. Unfortunately it happens. Here's a link to the current manual. It seemed fairly easy to follow -- assuming the radio does what it's supposed to! www.tecsunradios.com.au/store/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/PL-600-MANUAL.pdf
Long press the Memory Button for 5 secs and enter your desired memory number. I received mine last week and had a hard time programming it. I spent time studying the Australian manual and finally got it to work. You can download the Australian manual on their website. With regards to the battery, there is a code that you need to enter so it will charge a Ni Mh battery. Please refer to the Australian manual for more info. Good luck
Hello nice lecture I learned a lot. Got a question I am from the Philippines living in a province 50 miles from Metro Manila (Capital Region) sadly I can only pick up local FM stations here in my province not even stations from Manila. I am planning to buy Tecsun PL660 and it would be my first to try shortwave. I am not sure if I would be able to pick some shortwave bands or what but I would like to try it. It is just buying this product or the PL600 will cost higher than the price in US or other countries maybe. I just wanted to make that purchasing this radio will be worthwhile. What do you think?
George, I'm not sure about costa. Sorry. There is a smartphone app called Skywave schedules that lists shortwave broadcasts, wherw tbey originate and to wherw they are directed. That may help you tune stations. Using a long wire anyenna or other short wave listening antenna may also help.
Yuvraj, unless having access to the air band VHF frequencies is important to you, I'd go with the PL330. I haven't used it but spec wise it has some advantages. It's a much newer DSP design with upgradeable firmware, it uses a 5 volt USB charging system and lithium battery so you probably already have several chargers. It has good reviews and what appears to have a fair price. I've been looking to purchase one myself, though I like my PL600.
@@GadgetTalk4U, veru much thanks for your reply sir. having searched aliexpress, banggood, amazon, ebay, flipkart,.. tecsun pl330 has very less chances of having latest firmware 3305 also chinese version is on sale. Air band is the set of frequencies air traffic controllers use to communicate with airplanes. If you have an interest in aviation and live close to an airport, you might find it interesting. Otherwise the PL600 is a nice choice.

I bought the Tecsun PL-660. It works very well. It was a toss up between this one and the 660 and from reviews the 660 seemed to be the best option.
Nice choice. As I recall the main difference was the availability of the air bands. Hope you like it and thanks for watching and commenting.
