Brilliant. "They said they would protect you; just never from themselves.". And I am so glad that now, I DO know. I've come so far. Those angry little men and their angry little gods no longer frighten me. Thank you for this, Derek.
I’m a member of the church and wow what a song. I felt this. Abuse of power is real everywhere even from those who don’t realize they’re doing it. We hold leaders to high esteem without realizing that they’re imperfect, make mistakes, say stupid stuff, and are sometimes manipulative. I’ve had experiences in the church and on my mission with leaders who use manipulation and their position to get me to do things which have hurt me badly spiritually and emotionally. I forgive them…took a long time. Jesus makes forgiving possible. It’s just sad that the people who are supposed to help and love us are sometimes the ones that hurt us most. But that’s okay I still keep showing up and keep forgiving, saying I’m sorry because I have hurt others as well. We need more I’m sorry, I forgive you, I love you. Which is another beautiful song you sing.
The fact that there is still air pumping through your lungs, and that your heart still beats shows an enormous amount of general grace (which is not akin to saving grace), that you have been shown, Derek. Repent and believe the Gospel. Turn to Christ and live.
I am really liking this song, absolutely appropriate for the crowd on X that follow you around and make false accusations and project their own weakness. Also, I get a distinct Radiohead vibe from this song.
I've been waiting for a piece of art to come along and help summarize the relief and residual anger I feel after leaving the church. This comes pretty darn close. Thank you.
Ultimate liberation means being free to do whatever you want in the bedroom? I think my wife would strongly oppose that sentiment. If I followed that logic, wouldn't I be the one "hurting" my wife and kids? I.e. we instinctually know "laws"/parameters can be for our good.
I was introduced to Caedmon’s call by an older coworker and although I am not a Christian or a huge fan of CC’s sound, it seems like Derek Webb is a truly talented and outspoken artist. It’s fascinating to see how ya’ll Christians can be so brutal to each other. Derek’s recent song where be performed dressed in drag drew some really hateful comments. Keep doing what you’re doing Derek. When you get hate, you know you’re hitting the right nerve. Spirituality is more then just rigorously following religious dogma.
AI is going to put us all out of business. God is not controlled by the little angry men, let's pray AI stays under control too or we're in very deep trouble.
I don’t love the use of generative AI in general. In this case it’s… fine? Because it’s doing something different from conventional animation. But still…
I love the lyrics of this song because they are such a poignant summary of the entirety of all the fake preachers out there today. Little angry men, representing little, angry gods, all of which can and should be shunned at every opportunity. Just discovered your music this evening and am enjoying it. Thanks for sharing and you go Girl!

Just like in Jesus' day, the people with the degrees are THE most clueless of all and always have been.
