I remember hitting this guy up via text because I didn’t know how I should mount my crane, he responded so quick and was so helpful. Can tell this guy is humble and a genuinely good guy. Keep up the great content brotha
Yes Sir! Agreed...on all points! I soooooo wanna be like you when I grow up! You are a credit to the welding trade! A beginner like me can really learn from you!
Much appreciated advice my man! Ive been soaking up all your business advice as much as I can. Im a HD mechanic up in AB Canada, And ive never had my own gig, always been an employee. Well, the oil company I worked for gave me my walking papers because I wouldn’t comply with mandatory Vaxx. Stupid covid. Anyway its a scary thing starting out on your own. I think it’s mostly fear of the unknown. Ive been in my sheltered little employee life for 25 years and have a jaded veiw of reality. I think it will be ok, Im meticulous with my quality of work and strive to be the best at what I do, so thats half the battle!! Anyway thanks for sharing your knowledge.
6:57 to add on to this, tho I’m not a mobile welder, I weld on the side/in the shop, make sure to buy good quality consumables, a good example of this is grinding disks, my shop used to go through a grinding disk every week, I told them to switch to a 3m grinding disk and they listened to me and now I have the same disk as I did the first few weeks I’ve started there months ago.
The Pferd CC-GRIND-SOLID (P/N 61200) has been the best general grinding wheel I've found. The only disadvantage is that you can't really grind on the edge of the wheel. They're more of a replacement for flap discs. For the things that wheel won't handle, I use Diablo 1/4" wheels. Diablo's cutting discs are also excellent. Extremely fast cutting, with decent lifespan. I compared Diablo's 1/16" cutoff wheels to the equivalent from Pferd, and Pferd didn't even come close. Diablo also makes the best blades for Evolution and similar metal cutting saws, in my opinion.
As a hobbyist currently, my Harbor Freight grinders serve me very well. I've had two for about 3 years now, and they've never let me down. But like I said, I'm currently just a hobbyist, grinding at most an hour a week. All of my other power tools are DeWalt. They're the best tradeoff of performance and cost, in my opinion.
I have 8 angle grinders each one has its own wheel, so I never have to switch wheels, 2 straight grinders, I have a 50 pack of 7inch cutoff wheels, just because I've run out on a weekend. 😃😃 Great Video, Thanks
Hey Anthony I like your comments and your attitude cheap tools is a no no I'll admit I started out with some harbor freight tools was all I could've afford at the time but I gradually move on I bought an 85dollars stick welder a bandsaw and 3 grinders and some consumables that's it the first job cleared most of the little welder is still going strong my son uses it just to make sure its still good but now I got better tools life is a lot easier
Love hearing from ya, like you said most people are figuring it out as they go so hearing some of the things I do like ordering online vs local retail to save money is reassuring. Our local stores gouge small guys all the time and it hurts the wallet I would rather order online than get mad at the employee for the above list pricing. It's the sad reality of smaller towns and not alot of competition.
Taken me 20 years to teach my Uncle/Old man and his(edit their) business partner about the consumables. Always have extra of everything because you never know when you're going to need it. I'm talking bottles of Helium and Co2 to run lasers and cut off discs and flap discs etc. Welding wire (what we use) is a nonissue 2-minute walk 4 doors down to get another roll. I completely agree with you though on always having things stocked. I order 3 bottles of LPG a month the moment we get down to 2 just so the forks are always running etc. It ain't rocket science but it helps in the long run.
I work out of an old converted cattle trailer because the weather here in England Uk is just too wet for most of the year to have anything exposed. A large van might be my next step but with Covid, van prices have skyrocketed. A lot of my work I can bring back home or the customer brings it to me. All of what you said it great and sound advice!
I weld at work, I also side weld at home. I have to turn down soo many aluminum weld jobs because I don't have the proper equipment. Most would need mig aluminum process. I've managed to save enough to buy or close to buying the proper equipment. But , now I'm struggling with brand. My company provides my work machine which is Lincoln and my arc welder and flux core at home is also Lincoln. The problem is Lincoln doesn't provide all the features of some like Everlast, HTP, some Miller's, and esab just to name a few. What do you use for aluminum work? Thanks for your time sharing your videos.
Hi Anthony. Thank you for your videos. Appreciate it. Could you please give advice if guy like me who iust started weld. What good and right steps to your own welding business. Thanks 👍
Hi Anthony, follow your channel from France, love your work ! Do you think you can make an video about your failed and mistakes with customers, like some work you did bad at your beginning. Also where did you work before start to be your own boss. Sorry for the English hahahaha
Just curious how did you get initial business here and there in this field that’s the only aspect I have issues with I got a ton of work quick when I had my mowing business
Plus, with practice oxy propane cuts are much cleaner with less slag. But there is an upfront cost to swap all your tips, gauges and hoses over to propane.
started my own mobile welding out here in san diego ca, recently did a job that opened up a door for 5 apartment locations to do metal railings replace and repair, they sent me a contractors packet to fill out, I'm insured but it also asks for a contractors license do you have one? if so does welding require a particular one? your vids motivate me thanks
Hey man, I’m just in college right now ( erly I’m still in high school tho I’m 17) but I have a job lined up for me after I’m done but I kinda want to do what you do. How can I start a little company with a basic truck or something. how can I get enough money for it too?
Insurance Insurance Insurance. Get theft insurance on you tools and truck. What would you do if you woke up tomorrow and your whole truck and lively hood was gone forever? Could you come back?
This is exactly the right answer imo, maybe the customer had problems with 1/8 and 1/4 was perfect for their needs, I am bias though and over build things, imo build it stronger than you need even if it cost more.

You are right with the comment people don't care what your excuse is they want their stuff fixed. So be prepared and buy tools that last.

I use a miller trailblazer for spool mobile, I use a old millermatic 250 for shop spool and a razor welds 200 for tig

I sold the company! only a welder now

Cicadas are real bad in Texas during the summer. Might as well be our state bird
Good advice
Have u tried the oxy propane for cutting. Cuts the same and last 1 propane to like 6 oxy
I haven't maybe one day I will try it!

Just getting into mobile work. Is utility bed better than flat bed?
Yes. All day long. More capacity and organized
I think so! I have both but my flatbed is 4x4 use it if Im going into a bad area
good pointers MMA
How much money can you expect to spend when first getting started with mobile welding? Sum of everything from truck, tools, welders and extras.
in todays mega inflation world. I have no idea, if these communists we've elected get there way. you'll own nothing

could I? I have before, and that is very obvious I thought
Point #6- the customer is always right, they want 1/4, give em 1/4. Explain 1/8 is cheaper and would do it, but I will do 1/4 as per your request
