I'm still using the old Ikelite electrical flash trigger, which has been quite reliable. Is that a more resilient option than optical strobe triggers?
The good thing about the SLRs with built-in flashes you can use the original penta-prism to swap back in case of flash trigger fail.
True-although the recycle time with built in flashes is typically very frustrating!
The issues with batteries and splashed circuit boards are much less likely with the TRT triggers, which are USB-rechargeable and housed in a sealed unit. And Nauticam make a basic trigger for most cameras, costing around £250.
Simple trigger is, indeed, electrically extremely simple requiring at most half a dosen components. 100 USD should be temptin retail price. Maybe I'll do it...
Why not just take the flash you probably got with you camera as your back up?
@@Wetpixel-Live I thought all housings were built to fit flash? The newer flash triggers fit the space left by not fitting the flash
@@glynnphillips323 - no, most woudl not fit a standard land flash. Some can accommodate a "pop-up" flash, but many camera sdo not have them.
I carry my original nauticam flash trigger as a backup for the UW technics HSS flash trigger . I have also had bad batteries be an issue. I wish the flash trigger had a warning light for low battery because the only way to know you need to change the batteries is to have it fail on a dive. Very frustrating.
Great idea
