From 5:11 onward IMO it is the best moment of Metallica's history. Just in that FANTASTIC verse it explains the neverending lies of government, and your useless government - written school textbooks where you learned absolutely nothing, and the endless lies of that government - written bible of total BS that has absolutely nothing to do with True Spirituality whatsoever. Nature is my church,! And Rock N' Roll and Heavy Metal music is my Religion ! Thank - You Mother Ayahuasca !!, Infinite Endless Gratitude !! : - )

This solo has everything, the harmonics and whammy bar dives , the descending arpeggios , a killer diminished run with a quick slide back on the last note, the chromatic descending run and the arpeggio triplets at the end. It’s awesome !

I was in 7th grade when And Justice for All came out. I skipped school and rode my bike to the mall to buy it. There was a line of ppl waiting for this. I remember the employees at Camelot Music has 3 big boxes up front asking ppl if they wanted Record, cassette tape, or cd. They couldn't hand them out fast enough. Such a long awaited album we were all waiting for. First one without Cliff Burton. But it totally lived up to the hype behind it.

+Olcay Alp Bayram It was a truly fantastic time for music. Record stores were awesome. You could spend hours in one and have it feel like 5 min. So many bands that aren't around anymore. When an album came out you heard the songs for the first time. There was no internet were music was leaked or the band put out out a early song. And MTV actually played music. It was a great time the 80's.

I remember when this album came out. Me and my friends were skateboarding behind TOWER RECORDS in Seattle and as soon as they opened up we all ran in and bought a tape and immediately went behind the store and put it in this yellow Sony boom box. I can still remember blackened coming on with that intro that is the coolest intro ever then that riff and the drums me my best friend Shawn, Jeremy, Keenan and Eloy all were blown away by the tone the timing of the songs the lyrics and of course the riffs and solos. We grew up with Metallica every album has a different tone and mood and all are masterpieces. We were the fans that were really let down by load it sucked to us it was weak and simple and they had a whole knew fan base we hated. Those new fans used to mock Metallica and now they're going down in the moshpits.

I fucking love the sound of the guitars on this album. It's the reason it's my personal favorite Metallica album. Yes, I absolutely love Kill em' All, Ride the Lightning, and Master of Puppets as well, but just the raw sound of this album on the guitars and the drums make it for me. Then the lyrics are fucking dope. Every song on this album I have a REALLY hard time not headbanging to it. Hell, I remember trying a "Try not to headbang" video and a lot of these songs were on it, I failed every one. I feel like I speak for everyone who is a Metallica fan, there literally is not one bad song on this album, you can't change my mind.

i agree with all you metallica heads!, this song took me 3 months to learn to play; and that was just james' part. i think the title track is one of the best riffs written; QWHO WROTE THE AJFA OPENING RIFF; JAMES OR KIRK? i haven't been able to find out. thank you in advance; and u druid for posting; can't wait for the 10th studio album due late this year; hope they go old school with the speed.

+Kevin Michael I have a suspicion that James actually wrote that part. I don't know where I got this impression but for some reason I feel James was always the writer on the more 'classical'-inspired side of Metallica.

+JuveStabia5 thank you brother; i'm going to email one of their fan websites and ask the Q. to be sure; but i would guess James too; however Kirk would not be a shock of course.

This song is my Nexus Event. I was into dance and rave in the early 90's. Anything with a BPM over 160 was my jam. Found "Justice" on a cassette somewhere. Stuck it on out of curiousity. I accidentally played the B side first. And this was the first song on the B side. It just got faster and faster and faster and I fucking loved it. If I had stuck in the A side and heard "Blackened" (which I love, but not as much as "Shortest Straw"), I might not be where I am today, as I made so many friends through metal and had so many adventures and mis-haps as a result.
