I’ve had these growing for several years and some colors cross pollinated (I assume that’s correct) and now a couple of plants have pink flowers with yellow streaks and vice versa. Very pretty!
Mine grow and flower year round here in Florida. I have to cut them back when they look a little ragged and they come right back. A few of mine are at least 5 years old. I have a few growing in total shade. Literally maybe get a half hour of dappled sun and they are 5 feet tall on a thick stalk that supports it's just fine.
Excellent instruction. THANK YOU ! I have never had 4 o'clocks before and didn't have any idea what they looked like. I have some seeds and will try to grow them inside in the winter. I live in the mountains of Utah at 6,200' elev. We get snow drifts of 7' that last for 3-4 months....so I hope they survive up here. They are so unique and beautiful ! P.S. I'll look for another video on how to "nick" the seed.
I don't bother to nic the 4oclocks actually, they do just fine with a soak first. They're not going to survive a frost, but are easy to start from seed. And self seed for me. Good luck
I grow 4 O'clocks each year here is Wisconsin alongside Allysum, which I see you also have in your garden. 🥰 This year I used some green vinyl coated garden fencing and made a cylinder about 24" tall & 18" diameter to keep them from flopping all over my Allysum. I've used some Green 550 cord I have to reign in any flops to this central cylindrical support & keep everything more upright and well supported. This has worked out wonderfully for me thus far. If you start them indoors in the spring a couple months before you transplant them, you can have some idea of what the final product will eventually be by looking at the color of the stems, & then space them out in your garden. White have a very light green, yellow are slightly darker shade of green and pink/red have an obvious reddish tinge, the darker the reddish tinge, the darker the red. In this way, you can choose where to place which color. They will also start blooming shortly after you transplant them. I use a grow tent+incubation chamber & a heating pad (Set at 72F) for this & 5" peat pots. Make sure you have lots of space, as they will need about 4" between each pot. I've not tried to grow them from tubers yet, although I'd like to try... Best wishes! 😉
oh nice. Yes I really should have staked a lot more of my plants this year, I wasn't expecting the record breaking rains we had. I really try to keep my labeling organized but it doesn't always happen. Those are some great tips I'll think about for next year. Thanks for Watching.

I live in Mississauga and was late last year to collect the seeds from my four o'clock plant. I was hoping it would come back this year as you mentioned they are self seeding. But I had no such luck. I had the one that bloomed in four colours.

They are a curse! I think the best way to get rid of them is herbicide. I live next to a park that has morning glory. The root system will travel 5-8 feet underground and come up in my gress. (I've actually dug them up and followed their octopus-like root spread!)
I went to Puerto Rico I saw them and I used the plant app to identify them, I brought seeds and I planted them with doing anything to them, just put them in the soil and I have many baby plants

Hello< I just found your channel today and have learned so much, I was given an established fuchsia plant by my friend last year who was given some and she knew nothing about it , she said just plant it it's beautiful...lol I was amazed what a beautiful spreading bush it made along my front porch , Unfortunately she is no longer with us but it certainly brings back memories, my question is when it rained hard the whole thing just flopped over, are these meant to be on a trellis? I love them as a bush.. I definitely need to get the yellow my favorite color, they are popping up right now and want to do the right thing .. Thank You
