Dating to 1960, this Shell Oil sponsored film gives a historical overview as well as the basic physics behind the function of heat engines (a heat engine is a device for producing motive power from heat, such as a gasoline engine or steam engine). The film showcases the many benefits that heat engines bring to everyday modern life. The film also covers important features such as the differences between heat and temperature, how heat is converted into motion, and thermal efficiency. These demonstrations are done through animations and footage of different types of heat engines from early steam engines, steam powered locomotives, and gasoline and diesel internal combustion engines. It ends with reflections on the future, including with promising inventions like the gas turbine engine -- a type of continuous flow internal combustion engine.

I think they're Earth, Water, Fire, and Bea Arthur? 4th grade was a Loooong time ago. I don't always remember what Mr. Garrison said. It was Bea Arthur or Justin Timberlake, one was a form of energy and the other invented atoms. Easy to confuse.
