    You are so right about the summer heat in Andalusia! And yes, you have warned us before! However, since I was already in Malaga, I could not resist visiting Sevilla, Cordoba, and Granada! All the cities are truly special! I wish I had visited Cadiz, too! ( I was in Spain for 5 weeks). Next time!! Thank you for your wonderful and very helpful videos, Tony.

    One morning in Granada, I took the no. 9 bus up to San Miguel Alto and then walked down through the Albaicin. I'm not sure that the views are always better from the highest points, but it was fun to be up there with no other tourists, just some joggers and mountain-bikers. On the way up, I noticed that the bus goes right past the Mirador de San Cristobal and that you can see snowy peaks behind the Alhambra from there, so that could be another starting point for a walk through the Albaicin.
    Also, I'm very glad that I went up to the Cuevas de Sacromonte. There's a bus that stops in the vicinity, but you have to walk a good bit uphill from there so I figured I might as well walk the whole way (even though it was already a too hot for my comfort on mid-April). On my way up the narrow road, I encountered a bus going down confronting a car going up. The car had to back down (just a gentle slope) to a place where there was enough room for two vehicles, and a few pedestrians had to wait for it all to be worked out. I suppose that's a regular occurrence.

    • @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal
      @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal  6 місяців тому

      Thanks, Ermengard. Very few people reach the Abadía del Sacromonte either, at the very end of the neighborhood.

    • @ermengard6960
      @ermengard6960 6 місяців тому

      I thought I might take the bus to the Abadia and then walk back to the Cuevas, but I was running short on time. I covered a lot of ground on foot in two days and could easily have filled more time there.

    Tony’s videos are the best I have come across for travel! If you are going to a Spain, I cannot recommend this series more. I have a question. We are touring Andalucía and our route is Madrid to Cordoba to Seville. We scheduled 4 days in Cordoba and are thinking of taking a day trip to Granada to see the Alhambra. Which is better, taking the train or renting a car?

    Great video again so are the cordoba and Granada train stains far from the center . Taxi are required? Or can l take a bus? Also the cray machines at those stations are inside the rail station where you platform is indicated on the screen?

    • @ermengard6960
      @ermengard6960 6 місяців тому +2

      In Cordoba, I stayed at a place midway between the train station and the old center, and it was easily walkable. In Granada, I stayed near the cathedral, and I walked to the train station to catch a 7 a.m. train. There is a bus that goes that route. If you arrive to Granada by bus (as I did from Seville), you definitely need to take a bus -- or the tram/metro if you're staying somewhere near a stop.

    • @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal
      @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal  6 місяців тому

      It all depends on the size and weight of your luggage and on the specific location of your accommodation. You can walk, take the public transport or grabar a taxi. What would "cray machines" be?

    • @lucieteal7201
      @lucieteal7201 6 місяців тому

      Sorry x-ray machines inside the stations in cordoba and Granada . Are the machines inside the platform where the trains leave?

    • @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal
      @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal  6 місяців тому

      @@lucieteal7201 in Cordoba they are in the upper level of the station, before you go down to your platform. In Granada they are at the platform level and you'll go through them before you embark on your train.

    It is possible to add a few Pueblos Blancos by bus on this trip?

    • @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal
      @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal  10 годин тому

      Yes, but that would be a different trip. To visit the Pueblos Blancos by bus you will need to double the time needed to do it by car. And you won't be able to reach some of the places we visit on our Pueblos Blancos road trip.

    Ola Tony! I can already tell that my trip to your beautiful part of the world in November will require multi trips. I appreciate you sharing with us your knowledge. It helps a lot for planning. My great grandmother made a custard pie that she called Boogee Pie. It was a simple recipe very similar to the Pastel de Nata. I'm gonna try & make them in little muffin tins & dream of when I can eat the real thing! 😊 - Michell from beautiful Colorado

    No visit to Ronda? That's a must on my list. Frigiliana looks really interesting too. Cartagena looks nice too but too far away I assume.

    • @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal
      @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal  13 днів тому

      Ronda is a must but not as part of a rail trip through Andalusia. We visit it on our Road Trip through the Pueblos Blancos. The train won't take you anywhere near Frigiliana and Cartagena is not in Andalusia. This is not about what's interesting but about those places that fit within a railway trip.

    Hi Tony, I have been watching your videos and they are great! We are coming to Spain and Portugal this summer. We are landing in Madrid and renting a car to circle the country. We could first go to south to Andalusia end of the June or we could go to first Porto & Lisbon and then beginning of the July go to Andalusia. What would you recommend? Our plan is Madrid, Toledo, Salamanca, Porto, Lisbon ( would you recommend Sintra?), Seville, Gibraltar, Cordoba, Granada, Valencia, and Barcelona. We will have 17 days, starting June 22nd. I would really appreciate if you could answer my questions and recommendations 😊@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal

    Hi Tony. We are big fans of your fantastic videos! We're visiting Andalusia in October, and are finding all trains "sold out" on Renfe/Trainline. We're having a very hard time securing point-to-point public transportation (train/bus). We are starting in Seville (we're coming from Faro), then onto Cadiz and the other cities in this video. Any suggestions?

    I just commented last week about having to create an itinerary like this because our tour operator one was cancelled - I am happy to say I did a great job and will be hitting all of your destinations (thanks to all your previous videos!! 5 Stars!!)!!
    Question: on our last day, we will be coming from Malaga to Madrid to catch our flight the following morning - do you recommend staying near the airport or should we stay near Puerto del Sol again? We will take a taxi/uber to the airport so we don’t have to worry about navigating the metro. Thanks!

    • @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal
      @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal  6 місяців тому +1

      Thanks, Elizabeth. Since you are planning on taking a taxi/Uber, we would definitely stay in the centre of Madrid, much more fun than the area around the airport. All the best!

    • @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal
      @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal  6 місяців тому

      Indeed! If people were aware of the mind-blowing number of people dying due to heat waves in Spain they would take the heat more seriously. Admittedly, most casualties are people with previous health issues, but it's a very serious matter anyway.

    • @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal

  • @agasque

    Terrific video, Tony! Thanks for the itinerary and suggestions. We will be in Andalucía in June. Two challenges we’ve experienced so far is getting train tickets between Malaga and Grenada (limited times and days - we gave up and rented a car instead) and getting tickets to the Alhambra (the website has been glitchy and it seems tickets are released for sale only a month before … plus they sell out quickly. Our solution is to go with a guide). If you have any tips to do this trip more effectively, we would appreciate any advice!

    • @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal
      @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal  6 місяців тому +1

      Thanks, Ashley. The tickets for the regional trains (as opposed to high-speed trains) are only released one or two months in advance, but there are many trains every day connecting all the cities. As for the Alhambra, tickets go on sale one year in advance, right now you can book tickets for April 2025! The only website where you should buy your tickets is the official one here tickets.alhambra-patronato.es
