Here is the reason for those too lazy to look it up:
There is a new DRC zombie commander [[Temmet, Naktamun's Will]] who has 2 abilities, including "Whenever you draw a card, your zombies get +1/+1 til EOT."
So with UD in play, for 1 colorless mana, UD pumps Temmet, and your other zombies, and you draw, and you discard, and you trigger any draw/discard effects you happen to have, which can be a lot.
Combo UD + [[Feast of Sanity]] and you have 1 mana = loot 1 card & ping 1 to any target
Combo UD + [[Bone Mizer]] and you have (nearly) a necropotence, since activation is nearly free, making 1 life = 1 loot.
Combo UD + both, and you pretty much don't need Temmet, since the game is over.
Mirage was about the time I stopped playing. My little brother made a combo deck, some wizardry with two enchants to auto ping infinity... he did that to me chess too
I definitely don’t think it has anything to do about the precon and the lead commander in that one. It ISSSS about the secondary commander who is cEDH T1 worthy Hashaton.
Who is a 2 cost 1/3 zombie wizard. In ESPER, I’d argue the best 3 color combo in the commander format. He has the ability when you discard a creature card, you may pay one blue and two colorless to make a 4/4 zombie token of that creature. And the original card stays in your graveyard, still viable as a reanimate target.
This is strong in obvious ways. Just imagine discarding a valgavoth or an Avacyn… but also helps with stuff like Pollywog prodigy, making a 1/3 come out as a 4/4 instead and now you draw a card off of every non creature card a opponent plays that’s 3 or less without having to evolve it. All for just setting up the discard and paying 1 extra colorless.
To tip the iceburge off, it’s not a cast. When it’s discarded the ability triggers and there’s barely any ways to prevent that creature from ETB’ing. Meaning you can quite literally get an almost uncountable thassas oracle onto the battlefield. At instant speed.
this isnt reddit...
I’ll never forget when Mirage came out, bought the 1st pack out of a booster box at Walden Books, opened it and got a Grinning Totem😁
i forgot walden books was even a store, flashback
I was in high school. This was such a cool set. MIrage, Tempest, Weatherlight, Alliances. Stronghold. All while i was in high school
Grinning Totem was a hot card back then. 😂
The idea that I got a Taco Bell ad before this video just lets me know this is gunna be a banger.
Lisan al Gaib
Mirage was one of the first few sets I picked up when I was a youngster. Fond memories
Joey moss!! The Legend!
Here too. Stars and Stripes bookstore in Okinawa ;-)
Skaaaaaadoosh
Your mom was good back in the day as well. Douche
Best set! Skadoosh!
Mirage as a whole, has incredible artwork. Every card, including the basic lands.
Commander seems to be a really effective trigger for cards; when some new commander comes out that interacts with or utilizes a card, everyone rushes to try to try and snatch the card up before it goes up in price, which ironically makes the price go up. But a few months later, people move on to the next new commander or otherwise loose interest, and the card usually goes back down. I don't think the demand will keep up for any length of time at all.
No unfullfilled desires is only spiking because interest in a new commander and as the interest in this commander drops the card will too, happens literally every single set.
The Reserved List is back, Rudy!🎉😂🎉
But only the cards he decides, not us, the community of millions.
When a MTG flavor text can describe my relationship better then my therapist ever could.
Late 90s was when I stopped playing. Started at Ice Age.
I sold a bunch of my older stuff WAY too soon. My dual lands sold for like 40 bucks. Later I was selling a friends dual lands for 225 each... was a crazy moment.
Still have a bunch of that 90s stuff.
Timmies are vintage, since they've lived in their parents basements for a long time...
Picked up a BGS 9.5 Unfulfilled Desires for just $22 back in June 2018. Only one copy graded higher (Quad 9.5). Bam! :)
I think it’s worth pointing out that the lady who wanted mana crypt and jewelled lotus banned because they provide an unfair advantage is excited to play a commander that makes 8 drops playable on turn 1-2
Compulsion is blue and does the same thing, if for 1 more mana per activation and requiring you to discard first. But you don't have to pay life.
If you're reading this start saving your paychecks for Final Fantasy preorders. No, seriously. 🧐
My LGS has a full set of Mirage for 800. Seems cool to just pickup a full set outright
The precon Commander decks drive a lot of the spikes.
They are heavy on a gimmick and then a 50 cent card spikes up bad, and crashes down couple later, when the deck is no longer "trendy".
Happens ALL the time for these precons, you can just buy up whatever is even remotely useful with the decks theme, and make bank on it.
Simply dont buy into cards that already spiked, you have to get them super cheap, so immediately if a deck is spoilered, couple cards will become relevant.
Thats much simpler if the tribal deck clearly says what tribe is relevant, Zombies want as much draw/discard effects as possible.
Anyone else notice there is a small Gem Keeper buyout
I also went from grass to grass. What a coincidence.
Remember when Rudy told people a couple months ago that Kaladesh will never be below 500 a box again? That ship has SAILED! lol
Mirage is my favorite set! I have a ton of Cadaverous Bloom that I'm hoarding for absolutely zero rational reason. Thanks for the insight, Rudy!
Came for the FOLKS, stayed for the obscure card spike in price.
Yeah mirage and visions both … they were so neat. Those sets are what attracted me to magic hard. Like you cannot help but look at them if you get a glimpse of them.
Mirage, visions, weatherlight block is the goat 🐐
tempest block
Same as Soldevi Digger and the Dr. Who commander combo of River Song. A new thing comes along, it's hot for a month and then it cools of again to (about) previous values.
Back when MH2 released, people were going nuts for squirrels. Nut Collector became a $25 card overnight. Granted, it's not reserved, but look at it now. Same thing will happen here.
well it also got 3 treatment reprints in DMR which had a huge print run. but it wasn't ever going to stay above a couple dollars anyway
Pheldagrif was my strange one - I just kept my copies in a folder for 25 years until I started playing again… people actually use it now! Something called commander now. I didn’t expect that
So what do we think Rudy is going to buy out? Power 9? Dual lands? Four horseman of the Dark?
Love that Mirage and Visions art, it's still gorgeous. The cEDH folks will likely keep this card up at $5, I wholeheartedly agree. Tortured Existence is getting the same treatment, but isn't even on the reserve list, so it ought to settle more.
This is so true. Thank you for the video.
Fun story, I just got two mirage boosters in last night from ebay, pack #1 rare? Desires! Pack #2? LED. I think I'm done.
There are way more cards in that era due to high print runs. They are still reserve list, but prices will decline again overtime time when singles come back to the market. Even revised cards were printed in excess. The values hold on 3rd edition/ revised because players still want copies of duals and Wheel of Fortune (maybe Copy Artifact) for the popular Commander/EDH format.
Screw that card. I’m buying an Alpha Investments shirt! 😎
Confirmed, Rudy dumps $1,000,000 into Unfufilled Desires because the meme is worth it.
I got this card as a bulk rare in an Ebay lot back in 2013. I was like "wow old card worth nothing". It never moved because it is not special in terms of mechanics with modern cards. You know, if I wanted to sell it now would be the time but that's not why I get MTG. If you the viewer are, this proves one thing; stay the course.
Today's folks was very cool calm and collected
Can we talk about my unfulfilled desires for a Rudy mouth hug?
By Monday, unfulfilled desires will be priced in moxes.
You going to sell any of those old booster boxes to patreons?
Don't worry Rudy you're right, do you want to know what it means? You can probably see a lot of sales and the people who made it a current valuable investment won't regret paying the premium
hashaton, scarab's fist is a great new incoming cedh commander. unfulfilled desires is combo hype.
do a video on "divorced dads". as a real divorced dad, its pretty funny (tho the artwork is pretty lacking)
wait what happened in the pokemon sphere?
Lots of graded and autographed prototype and playtest cards selling for millions on the secondary market that are supposed to be from when the Pokemon TCG was originally developed were forensically analyzed and found to be fakes printed in 2024.
This all started when one of the guys who designed the card game started selling his private collection. The people who bought directly from him got legit cards.
Pretty much everyone else who bought them from resellers have been scammed with fakes.
Worked the largest MTG Tournament in AUS for the Pre Release. Had 220 players. Took a long time to get more than that. Shame Mirage was not that good a set.
I've loved the tears of guys like Pokerev who has his own distribution and is crying about the cost of Pokemon, as he has single person distribution...as if the only way to enjoy Pokemon is the way he's doing it. That's my non Timmy take.
Timmy take is that I'm pumped for Star Wars Unlimited Carbonite Boosters.
Folks welcome back!
Mirage and Visions is when I quit. It was a huge upgrade in card feel and print, but so underwhelming in play. We were expecting a return to Arabian Nights, but gave nothing. Ice Age and Chronicals were the right direction, but Mirage-Weatherlite… boring. Everyone thought the game would die
This buyout will last as long as a taco bell chicken nugget
Greetings from Dr. Pattberg!
Finally some movement in the vintage magic market lol
yeah there may be heaps of them around, but you have to actually find them in your collection lol
I think people like Mirage just because it was the end of Ice Age, and that set was bloated with junk. 😂
Could you please do a video on how to approach a game being dead from investor perspective when you wake up on a tons of worthless cards.
so many slept on mirage enchantments
Don't understand the buyouts from that channel. I can't believe that they aren't doing some insider trading with what they play
THE COOL KIDS PUMPED A TACO
You keep asking if you should buy out a card, yet when people do you say it won’t matter. Nut up taco boy, show us a REAL buyout😉
I'm a cool kid, Im buying out Circling Vultures for the same deck. It's a common but Im going to make a dollar!
This is how I find out I’m not cool 😟
We all know Mr Toilet is the Mirage GOAT
Tortured Existence spiked hard, for the same reason.
The zombie deck carries.
Nah but tortured existence also just has a lot of applications in many decks and is p good in general
@@RealTal. It spiked exactly because of the 2 mana Hashaton Commander, as its insanely good with that.
And it works great with Enduring Monument and Cryptcallers Cariot ; card is absolutely bonkers in that kind of deck.
Before that it was barely a 1$ card.
@@ThisNameIsBannednah it has been expensive for a while
@@0nn3 Just 2 weeks ago it was 5x cheaper.
Thats a spike, it wasnt expensive at all.
The fact you didn't pump Booby Trap from Tempest is shameful. 2.1k views 45 minutes ago.
Say what you will, Rudy; but all reserved list will eventually be ridiculously expensive. My 25 Brushwaags will buy me a car one day.
whats the point of pumping something if you can't force people to buy
This is the "prove me wrong" video, haha. 🤣
So you're saying this event is a mirage?
the who? the trash bin is calling the kettle... time has not been kind to rudy. dayum
Can someone tell me who the "Cool Kids" are?? I only watch this Timmy, Prof and JAJAM.... is it goldfish or npn? I dunno any others
stopped watching when "I probably have 1 or 2 hundred copies" LMAO
When CZ posts these cards in a video they are targeted for a coordinated buyout and flipped by people trying to catch the hype.
GAMESTOP IS CARRYING OUT OF PRINT TCG!!
I BUY OUT ALL TOLARIAN ACADEMY! ONE DAY THEY UNBAN IT IN COMMANDER AND I WILL BE RICH!
Mirage was the peak IMO
Imo it would be fifth dawn or urzas block. Crazy power creep during that era!
Had no idea it was reserve list lol, I just bought a few for some decks.
I've got a bunch of black-blue commander decks and this card doesn't work well in any of them...this card sucks.
Pumped up Rudy
Same amount printed as lions eye and that has steadily grown...
HEY WHY IS CGC TAKING RANDO SHOTS RUDY!? lol
"reserveless" ?
Card is terrible, sheep been buying my bulk all day for 30$. I almost feel bad.
that shirt is vintage
Pump AMC with me Rudy!
$1M Bitcoin is 90% off right now. Stop wasting your time on cardboard and stack some Satoshis.
I got mine for „only“ 10$
Timmy! 😂😂😂
Who are the cool kids?
There are cards in aetherdrift that refer to Kaladesh in the flavor text
I have like a hundred of these
🥃
❤
Unfulfilled desires hehe
mirage is fun but it's not tradable*
KALADESH!!! 🎉
You can't say that!!! It's racist!!! 😂😂😂
@TripsAhoy meh. I don't consider myself one. Don't really care if anyone else says so. KALADESH 4 LIFE!
@@CapnJanky of course. It's not even racist. Just wokeness from wotc
Is it supposed to be a slur of some sort? Is this another Washington Redskins situation?
@Magus12000BC no idea what you're talking about. It's a name of a ficticious place.
inb4 rudy is shorting cool kids
talk about the playtester scam pokemon cards. please.
Folks!
The scam comments are back.
Pump and dump!
Such a great card! Go go go RL!!!!! Still cool to see! Thanks Rudy!
Such a mid card lol
Get real
