I was 10 when this song came out. I was in the back seat of my mom's car on the way home from school and a guy pulled up next to us to make a right turn. I heard like 5 seconds of it and it was the best song I'd ever heard. Then he drove away and I had no idea how to find it. Today I heard it in a movie trailer. I finally fuckin found it.

My brother Jose died at the age of 24 a month or so before his 25th bday. He was a lovely character who constantly went out with friends, got wasted and was just known by many to know how to have a good time. During his time in the hospital hundreds of friends visited him to the point where the hospitals floor was completely full. On the day of his unexpected funeral the crowd seemed to multiply beyond belief, Many people remember him as someone full of life, anytime I hear this song I can’t help but think of him, he might’ve been “crushing up” and “drunk as fuck”but damn I just hope his last few hours as a man with life where lived to the absolute extreme. I only smoke or drink on occasion never to the extent that he did. I know this is a lot of yapping, but if you take anything away from this is to live life to the fullest but also
Be careful bc you never know when you’ll go from having a good time drinking, smoking etc to your life being completely over in a matter of seconds. Have fun, drink do drugs and enjoy your adolescence but also don’t take it too far and remember who you are.

In my experience (I’m 32) people who didn’t experiment with drugs or partying in adolescence bc of their parents or whatever usually end up trying drugs at some point. Usually in adult hood. When you’re no longer surrounded by people paid to give a shit about you (high school) and when trying drugs can have a much nastier impact.
I’d rather realize what I wanna do in adolescence and figure things out from there , than not try anything than go into adult hood with no experience in life. How can you than relate to your peers without the same experiences ? And I’m not talking about peer pressure I’m just saying in general you’ll be less mature. Not just trying drugs but life experiences in general ; drugs are a huge part of the human experience unfortunately.

I’m glad people can find comfort and like inspiration or relation to them chasing their dreams through this song but the way it comforts me is totally different in a sad kinship kind of way.

I listen to this song when I feel hopeless because I feel like it captures giving up and falling into a deep depression or addiction or both and many other inner struggles so poignantly. Being trapped in your head and your suffering and feeling so distant from the world.
It’s comforting because it makes me feel less alone I guess. Like the awful feelings I am sitting with can be put into words.
Just felt the need to put it out there. Art can be interpreted in many different ways and has different meaning to everyone.
For me this song just resonates and perfectly encompasses hopelessness and dragging yourself day to day because you have to.

To me the main theme in his music is coping with the fact that he is alone. Growing up in small town MN being the only black kid in town you really lose sense of self identity. And when we moved to a more urban area I quickly found out that I just as removed from the black community as I was from white people. Although Kid Cudi's life is and was completely different from mine I was able to find a bit of comfort knowing that I am not the only person dealing with being a Martian among men.

I have so many memories of parties in my 20s being near wasted and this song hit so hard. A decade and change later and it still brings back all those sense memories. I come from Syria and witnessed 3 years of war there, then moved to Sweden, the place I call home because I absolutely love it there but I've been living the worst 6 years of my life in Germany now, after my Family forced me to move here from Sweden, the country I fell in love with. Here I've been severely heartbroken multiple of times, got depression, anxiety and became a big time introvert with no friends. I hated the past 6 years I hate the person I've become.. Now I've graduated Highschool and I'm moving back to Sweden to pursuit my happiness. The only thing that kept me alive was music, and especially Kid Cudi, he saved me and my life. For that I'm always gonna be thankful to Cudders. I love you man, your music is my therapy & you are my savior.

Came back with something called "treatment resistant depression" & after years on multiple antidepressants & calling VA suicide line several times a year, mushrooms were a gift from God. Feeling empty a lot, running towards anything to make you feel excited or more accomplished, drive that empty feeling away.
