2Mex has much more he could “complain” about & be a victim of… unlike Talib Cosby, he’s a genuine soul who’s life experiences are obviously much more enlightened & straight forward. I like 2MEX on every track he's on, with The Visionaries, one of the best pens and deliveries in the group. I can hear this message, I used to love Kwelis' art, and still listen to it sometimes for a boost of energetics, "study the art and not the artist" - The OG MF DOOM. I've bought multiple projects and attended one of his shows here in Auckland... I've sold some discs/cds/vinyl/tapes & show tickets myself and haven't been able to fulfil some of these yet due to cashflow/health related reasons, so I can relate to letting people down in the showbiz game. I've done every feature I've been engaged for thank goodness.. Underground music is about Wairua, no way can most of us make much, if any money, doing it, we know it is about being open, honest, straight, and true as much as possible in every moment of every day. This is sometimes a very difficult way to be in todays' backwards world trying to bend every one of us to some nefarious ill. Lots of lessons from Kwelis' work I still engage within me and yet the "I control my base self, I control my many urges" of Kweli sounds like a complete load of rubbish hearing what 2MEX is saying. "An upside down kingdom, where life is just not fair, so many people struggling cos deep inside they're scared... where would they be if we don't care". A saving grace this lyric, yet it appears written by a person who appears to be an engaged rapist. Sad indictment and very disappointing. Talib Cosby what a stink buzz, he's a great artist to me, even if he's a very flawed man. I collect physical copies of both Up Above records, Rawkus, and Javotti Media, and will continue to do so as the art speaks to me in a useful way. I will however say that being good people is a challenge and a worthwhile one, this is all I'll recommend to anyone - ESOLIGH '24
You can always tell when someone doesn’t have too much confidence in themselves.
When they can't write a rhyme in a timely manner that someone pre paid you to do as a fan project with someone they respect. It be one thing ifnyou heard this story once or twice but I'm sure this is a thing at that point you have to question the ethics and passion. I respect 2 mex but this isn't a good look.
