    Enzo Maresca's role as Chelsea Football Club manager officially start on July 1st and I believe the first challenge that the Italian manager will have is to get the best out of his namesake, Enzo Fernandez.
    In this podcast we discuss Enzo Fernandez' start to life at Stamford Bridge and where he ranks in the current midfield pecking order.

    Nothing matters more than just playing Enzo in his best position. Connecting the defense to midfield/attack and starting further back, not pressing the opponent's back line and keeper like Poch had him doing. That's why he looks levels above when he plays for Argentina, as well as his non-Poch Chelsea career. Was our only bright spot under Potter and Lamps2.0. Literally 1st game back for Argentina and watch how he dictates everything. Also Enzo not having legs is official a tired take. Maybe his injury effected that early in 2024, but there's countless examples of that just being false, Kante-esque runs to get forward/back 75min+ in. Also trying to even bring up the "country>club" is completely baseless and unwarranted negativity. In December when it was first reported he was dealing with the hernia, he was supposed to take month+ off or get surgery... He missed a couple matches and gave his all for a few more months. No one is giving Saka shit for missing Arsenal's end of the season in a title battle, but being back for the Euros.

    You guys have missed a few things something important. Enzo is a very good 6 despite his natural position being 8, Gallagher, Caseido, Casidei and Livia are press resistant, very Direct and ball Winners and then we have creative, comfortable around the Box and goal scoring attacking midfielders in Nkunku, Palmer and Carney. Trust me Enzo at a six with the right combination in front of him which would be picked according to the team we are playing against is the way to go

    You are both making the mistake that we are playing the same system as last season, the way Maresca likes to play is possession-dominating football. Enzo will almost certainly sit at the back so he can face goal and put his vision to actual use, he will be superb. He shouldn't be running up and down the field, that was Poch's style, his recovery speed will not be a problem because Meresca does not need him to run box to box. And Caicedo is so much more than a holding midfielder, I think we are gonna see a side of him this year that will blow teams apart playing further forward.

    • @uomouomouomouomo
      @uomouomouomouomo 3 місяці тому +2

      Enzo and cucurella certainly sitting at the bottom of a box midfield, that’s 100% correct. Caicedo has a lot of engine in him, can see him operating closer to the box when we’re in possession. Will be a better structured version almost of what sarri did with kante

    The holding role is primarily a passing position and Enzo is our best passer in the squad so he is the best fit for that role. His passing is world class and, without disrespecting Caicedo because he is a good passer, Caicedo is an inferior passer to Enzo, in every way
    Also his defending is really underrated. Remember his first game for Chelsea against Fulham and the WC final for Argentina, he was immense defensively. He cant do transition defending as well as Gallagher or Caicedo because he isnt that mobile but if we dominate the ball and flood the midfield with bodies by inverting the fullback, it shouldn’t be a problem

    • @jackclerkin1453
      @jackclerkin1453 3 місяці тому +1

      It’s definitely a problem his legs aren’t great for premier league football can’t just have a inverted full back constantly covering enzo

    • @robertpttt9790
      @robertpttt9790 3 місяці тому

      @@jackclerkin1453 He may not be very mobile but he isnt basically stationary like Jorginho was. He can cover a decent amount of ground but he wont be able to track back from attacking positions and run down players on transition like Caicedo or Gallagher can. The inverted fullback just gives him support against counter attacks when there is a lot of space to cover, they wont have to constantly protect him

    Thoughts on Enzo: He's played under several managers so far at Chelsea, and they have used him in multiple roles, that's part of why we feel like we don't know where he plays best. I would suggest that he's capable of playing as a six and an eight, and I think a good player comparison from an ideal play style perspective would be Kroos. He should drop deep to play with the center backs and break the lines with his insane passing, then move up through the play as it develops and find his way into advanced attacking positions around the box. Unfortunately that play style is dependent on very strong defensive teammates who can break up the play during transition, Enzo's least productive phase of play. He's a luxury player playing in a super young unstable team that's in a developmental stage. Great video boys, keep up the good work!

  • @uomouomouomouomo

    A couple of things:
    • I think this take about Enzo putting the country over club is absurd. It seems more like he prioritized playing over ending the season with a surgery since the club were actively working to create some form of consistency. It sounded like he played injured for almost the entirety of his season. He’d clearly shut it down when it got to be too much. And I swear he was beginning training with the club as well as he recovered, so it’s not like he was “just in time” for Argentina. At least you guys were both consistent on our form being good + Enzo being out were not mutually exclusive.
    • I think the conversation about who is a holding player is moot. Caicedo will likely sit deeper in defence but will almost certainly be one of the top players in the box midfield in possession. It affords Enzo a lot of space to move the ball, and Enzo will sit deeper with cucurella (or other LB) who will provide the more defensive aspect of the bottom of the box. I think people have a tendency to underrate caicedo’s ability at the top of the box, as well as his ability to win the ball back high which Enzo prefers

  • @BenjaminBurns-ou6nd

    Enzo was 100M + add on fees. This year he was injured most of the season but next year he should have a 10 G/A or higher no less. 100M+ players need to play like 100M+ players. All love to Enzo but next year he needs to show a lot of improvement!

    As much as I love Joey, Enzo is clearly the more creative player between him & Caicedo. Just based on the eye test it’s clear as day and I really do feel that he would thrive in the 10 role more than Gallagher who is an absolute machine. I just believe that Enzo would still offer the press up top with a bit less intensity, but more intention as opposed to Gallagher’s high energy press. Same midfield trio with Gallagherer & Fernandez switched would do wonders. 💙🤙🏼

    Am i crazy to Think that a way we could over load our mid field with talent would be to play caicedo as right back and have him invert next to fx Lavia while Enzo and Palmer could push on. I know this would mean leaving gusto and James out but you could in theory play gusto left back and Reece center back

  • @nicolaszan1845
    @nicolaszan1845 3 місяці тому

    Di Maria is still our best winger. That's not to say the others are bad, it means Di Maria is still a baller.
    About Enzo though, the "but muh country > club!" argument is just silly. Of course he is going to want to represent his country at his best, getting surgery to accomplish that is not at all something to pit against him as if he were at fault. At Chelsea, the midfield options for a lot of the season were either injured and/or in poor form, him getting the surgery then and spent a month out might have put Chelsea in a bind.
    It was only by the end of the season, when the injections stopped being sufficient and he was no longer adding to the team but taking away from it, that surgery became the obvious choice. Specially with some midfielders like Carney starting to be fit to play again, which was not the case for a lot of the season.
    Enzo thrives much more in a possession based system like Argentina's or Potter's (or Maresca, at Leicester) over what Poch did, which had him running a lot instead of doing clinical long passes. Poch was critically misusing Enzo, even without accounting for an inguinal hernia injury that already would make an already not ideal position for Enzo near impossible to complete well.

    Boys, the head coach would have been explained the scenario - Enzo and Caicedo are f’ing expensive, so they will be playing. Figure it out.
    If Enzo sucks after 4 games or so, maybe that will give the coach freedom to sit him down. But, until then, Enzo and Caicedo are starting. Lavia will be the deputy for both of them.

    enzo isn't a ball striking player, he's all finesse and tires to curl every shot, it's why his goals are spectacular but rare. one of maresca's biggest jobs this season is to get enzo to sit back next to caicedo and not roam forward, if he can do that our midfield should be fantastic. if he doesn't then we're better off having caicedo + gallagher/lavia and leaving the creativity to palmer in the 10

    Then we we play more tricky games go to a 4-3-3 with the midfield 3 of Caicedo-Enzo and Gallagher or Lavia or Ugochuvo. And the 3 up top would be Palmer (Nkunku ot Olisse) and a striker.

    Considering what 100mil buys you these days, should we not change our mindset a bit and stop treating 100mil players as if they are a massive deal? Cause if Enzo is 100mil, the Messi at the same age would go for 500mil in today's market...
    Now that is a wild comparison, but hear me out. If we instead compare someone closer to Enzo's age who is actively playing in today's game, let's then talk about Alvarez. I personally rate Alvarez higher than Enzo based on past performances alone. Would you price Alvarez at 100mil? Good as he is, probably not. Do we then say okay but hang on, if Alvarez is not worth 100mil, but Enzo is, then how much is 100mil worth really?
    Point I'm making is that judging players by their price tag these days is pointless, purely for the shear absurdity at which some player's a valued these days based on tangibles and intangibles. Entire value system needs to be relooked in my opinion.

    I see Enzo going in the 6, Caicedo in the slightly more defensive 8 and Cole as the advanced 8. This should reduce the amount of sprinting Enzo has to do (his biggest weakness) and takes advantage of his ability to advance play from deep. I assume this is what Maresca will do because he's a similar profile to Harry Winks. Caicedo is no slouch at advancing play so I'd love to see him in one of the 8's and he's still got the workrate and pace to get back and defend.

I'm not saying the same quality of player yet in profile I see him closer to Toni Kroos than Cesc Fabregas. Fabregas's numbers in terms of goal contributions were ridiculous. We really struggled to control games last season. The keeper position is a little up in the air.
    In a 4-3-3;
    GK - ?
    RB - James
    CB - Trevoh Chalobah/Fofana
    CB - Colwill
    LB - Cucurella
    CDM - Caicedo
    CM - Palmer
    CM - Enzo
    RW - Noni/Olise
    STR - Nkunku/Nico Jax
    LW - Rafael Leao (Dream and ideal signing)
    Lavia, Santos and Chukwuemeka rotating in to the midfield. I like Ugochukwu however I see him maybe going on loan

  • @brianlynch2260

    Don't have an agenda against Enzo.
    But, with Caicedo, Enzo, Lavia, Santos, a full back inverting, Chucky, Palmer or Nkunku at 10, and maybe Gallagher staying, it is a fair question to ask 'what is our best midfield' or 'how does we balance midfield'.
    Given the Caicedo Gallagher pivot did well.
    And given how Lavia probably has better passing than Caicedo and is better defensively than Enzo.
    And given how we saw the Enzo Caicedo pivot a lot last season, and it wasn't great.
    Midfield partnerships (and potential ones) that include Enzo do seem (at the moment) to be the ones that don't fit together well.
    But the pod is right that this is the main problem for Maresca to sort out.

      True but he was definitely injured and had to adjust with a basically brand new squad around him. He’ll definitely be better

    Think a major point has been overlooked lads. Jorginho played deeper than Kante under Sarri as it was not about being a destroyer, that role was about setting the tempo and controlling the ball. In our current team Enzo will be our new Jorginho and Caicedo is the new Kante. Don't be shocked if Enzo is in that deepest role and then is defensively supported by a box to box Caicedo and an inverted full back.

    The agenda is crazy, based on google doctor Joey, Enzo is putting his country above his club, the same club he played injured for all season. Man this channel has been falling off lately. You used to be can’t miss, now I can’t finish a lot of your videos.

      Yeah he played the whole season with an injury just to get the surgery just in time to heal to play Argentina this is a co-incidence? He could have gotten his surgery now, to get back to play for his but he timed it to play for his country perfectly.

      @@wadewill5934 were you watching him? He got the surgery coz he couldn’t even get up and down the field anymore and it wasn’t helping the team at that point.

      I had this same issue playing in college. You can play though it but you are definitely not 100%. I got to a point where it was too painful to play and had the surgery. I have no issue with Enzo getting it fixed when he did. This injury is not like a muscle injury where you're worried about it being re injured. I would rather have him playing now and feeling good for the start of next season. If he was coming in rusty to preseason that would be worse.

      @@zer0ag3nt 100% it got to the point where him playing wasn’t really helping the team the last few games. I’d rather he get healthy, play some good football and hit the ground running.

      Make it make sense!! He played thru injury for his club. Idk how it made sense to 2 people I have began to actually respect their punditry.

    Jorginho was truly one of my favorite player from the (Lampard - Tuchel) era
    why did you not like him??

    • @uomouomouomouomo
      @uomouomouomouomo 3 місяці тому

      I think people have an issue with Jorginho bc he was a part of a midfield that had similar traits to him/was pretty flat. On a really good team where other midfielders have more dynamic traits, Jorginho looks excellent.
