  • Dr. Gregg Redner, FRPSC is the President of The Royal Philatelic Society of Canada. In this video he approaches the questions of why one would ever decided to become a philatelic exhibitor. He will discuss why exhibiting is/ or can be fun and what you, as a collector, may get out of it. We’ll look at how to decide on and choose a topic, what the various terminology means and deciding on the right place to enter your exhibit.
Dr. Gregg Redner is the President of The Royal Philatelic Society of Canada and is also on the Board of The Auxiliary Markings Club and Sports Philatelists International. He is a Fellow of The Royal Philatelic Society of Canada.

A lifelong stamp collector, Gregg began collecting stamps at the age of eight, focusing on the U.S. He became interested in the stamps of Canada in his teens, including the early issues of Newfoundland. For the past twenty-five years Gregg has concentrated on the stamp issues of Belgium with a focus on the 1919-1921 issues, Belgian parcel post stamps, Belgian pre-philatelic postal history and early Belgian auxiliary markings and labels. Gregg’s article on ‘Port-Payé markings on pre-philatelic Belgian mail’, was the winner of the first Tony Wawrukiewicz Award (2023), which is presented annually for the best article of the year by The Auxiliary Markings Club. This was excellent. I missed this session but caught the next two live and I'm grateful I got to catch up today. The advice to progress from collection to display to exhibit was very helpful (I'm certainly in the space between showing collections and creating displays.) And I love your emphasis on storytelling first and foremost. Which makes me wonder if in this day and age, traditional exhibits are most effective way to tell your story? For example, I bet more people saw your presentation on the Antwerp Olympic issue via the APS stamp chat than would see your exhibit at a show. And having you there to narrate and share the story made a huge difference in how I appreciated the material and the story. It's similar to your point about exhibits vs articles. An article / powerpoint driven talk has more reach and more breadth, but not as much depth, perhaps?

This is an excellent presentation. I have been travelling and missed all of the live episodes and am catching up. Perhaps I will dive into the postal history of where I travelled to!

This was a very excellent presentation with a huge amount of excellent information. I enjoyed the talk, but as someone that contemplate possibly doing an exhibit, it really put everything in perspective and the explanation about moving from collection, showing your collection and eventually progressing to developing an exhibit was really insightful. Really thanks for this clear, well presented and pleasant treatise of the subject, Gregg!!!

I’m only at the half way mark, but it’s great so far! Thank you for putting the work in to this presentation, Gregg!
