The best drummer of this subcontinent. Period. The way he uses the pedals, love and respect from 🇮🇳 Now that i know garaj baras happened in a single take without gumbi looking at rahat, its amazing to know.
One thing which is unique to Junaid podcast is the Karachi conversation. He's a real hard-core Karachhite. And why not. We all love the city of lights.
Gumby came to my college festival in Bangalore in India in 2008. He was touring with Ali Azmat. Off course no body knew him in India but me being a strong Noori fan knew all about him. I was also part of the security team and had access to the green room. Indian Ocean(probably the most famous Indian rock band) was also performing the same day.. I was chatting with Ali Azmat asking about his album Social Circus, trying to impress him with my knowledge of Pak pop etc. Gumby was lurking around in his usual way avoiding any limelight, just trying to do whatever his thing was. While I'm chatting with Ali, Rahul Ram from indian Ocean walks up excitedly to Ali Azmat and asks "Bro where is your drummer whats his name bumby gumby, I want to touch his feet, what a fucking amazing drummer he is" and then Rahul Ram hugged Gumby tightly. They went on to smoke up a bit (Im not sure about this smoking part) .. The good old days before 26/11 and Modi!!
Gumby is actually one of the best drummers of Pakistan. He is my inspiration and hats off Junaid for one of the most uncut and brilliant interviews ever. Loved it. Much appreciated.
12:30 nice to see Gamby❤️ I use to work in Karachi Sheraton from 1990 to 2000 Himself play Drums with his band and when I was at my shift I always ask him to play my favorite song of that time in 1994 big mountain’s “ baby I love you “ that he always played fantastically nice.. stay blessed 🤲😍
Happy to see him and he is so well-spoken and sound so humble. I used to think that he was a bit arrogant. This is the beauty of podcasts perception about someone can be changed with podcast.
Gumby's drumming, my childhood hero, was the heartbeat of Noori and the Meekal Hassan Band, infusing their music with life and energy. His skillful rhythms became the soulful backbone, creating a connection that went beyond notes and beats. Listening to Gumby play was like feeling the passion and dedication he poured into every stroke. His contribution resonates not just as a drummer, but as a driving force behind the bands' musical journeys. Cheers to the human touch he added to the melodies, making them unforgettable.
Personally in my opinion this was a very smart & sensible podcast with Gumby. Having been a session musician, I could relate to alot of the discussion. Wish him all the best in his future endeavors
gumby really needs to write a book detailing all the experiences he has had working and touring over the decades with various artists. he really is a musical institution at such a young age.
Thank you for this Podcast! Gumby is a significant part of the good memories and my childhood growing up in the times of turmoil and chaos in karachi. I would love he can somehow document what he mentioned travelling abroad and working with other musicians discovering new things would love to read or see his journey in future
Loved it. Such a huge fan of Gumby... I actually wanted to know why i don't see much of him and this video appeared on my timeline. Maza agaya Junaid. Keep it up!
Thank you soo much for this podcast, it brought back sooo many memories of my musical age with him of listening his drums just a bit in a song, bas gumby ne drums play kiye hain tou sun liya, thank you sooooooo muchh yaar for the last 2 hours 10 mins and 11 secs straight i was glued to my laptop and listening you guys talking about music and everyrhing, gumby was and is my fav drummer, thanks alot for this memorable podcast

This video just popped up in my youtube feed and I have only seen the thumbnail yet. I am here in the comments straight away and want to thank you that you bring this awesome man to the podcast. I am gonna have a good 2 hour slot set for this great show. thanks.
I used to be such a big Noori fan when I was a kid. That is where I discovered Gumby as the drummer. He is so right how Noori could have been the biggest band from Pakistan but they sadly never reached their potential.
Probably the best so far.. Thanks for bringing him close to his audience fans to know how much he is well aware of music and philosophy. Unfortunately still underrated
I love these Junaid Akram’s podcast with musician like Shallum Xavier, Faisal Kapadia and now Gumby. It takes me back to my early teens, purana Karachi and classic vibes and sorrow of not been able to enjoy music or pursue it same feel for new generations. Idk what to say.
Gumby bhai .... I'm from Peshawar and a #Rubab player . I love to play in an empty room bcz whenever I'm playing in front of someone, i get the idea that they are enjoying it but they intensely feel sinful , me a sinner and the instrument a shame. Thank u for speaking out. Love you bhai❤
Well thank you so much junaid bhai for respecting and bringing such brilliant artists and gems of our country, ❤ what a broad concept Mr gumby has to see the world, incredible!
I love Gumby and I will always argue that Gumby ko log halka le letay hai kiu ke ghar ki murgi daal barabar Warna he has serious artistry which puts him on global level. Rock on Gumby \m/ Thanks for inspiring us in the world of drums
Great interview. I have great respect for Gumby because he was the first drummer people knew of. Before that, no one cared who the drummer in a band was. No one remembers Fuad Abbassi or Malcolm Goveas. Saw him live in Lahore in early 2000s with Noori. I personally know people who went there just to watch Gumby play. For me, Noori was already a reduced version of Coven so I knew this is not going to end well. Also, Ali Noor is not an easy person to be around :) he talks a LOT!
Gumby is my favorite drummer from my childhood AJ inki baatien sub k mere Dil mein ikni izzat aur barh gyi bohot hi prari aur zahanat bari batein kr Rahe hain
Watched whole video Every second, Did little research on all Music Bands, Artists,Songs All mentioned During Conversation And Learned Much Out of It ......Thanks For Such Amazing Talk.👍
The best drummer in sub continent . Par with the world's best . Only podcast i have ever listened to from start to end . A lot of memories from childhood refreshed listening to musical journey of gumby and remembering the good pop scene pakistan had sadly no more . Hopefully we will soon listen some good refreshing music from gumby in future .
I met Gumby last year in Melbourne during Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s concert, The entire concert hall was rooting for Rahat but I was the only one shouting loudly “Gumbyyyy” and then I met him after the show, got few photos and appreciated him. But also I was sad seeing not many people knew in the show what a legend Gumby is.
After a long time I finished the whole podcast of yours n it was just amazing. Junaid Bhai you were amazing while interviewing this legend n what a representation of Karachi. Gumby Bhai mad respect to you 💓🤌🏼
Amazing amazing conversation! Loved it! There is something how you do your podcasts, you just bring out so much of the personality of the person. The conversation was very engaging!
Gumby has been the only best thing that happened in the Pakistan Rock Scene. Which gave birth to Bilawal Lahooti. I just finished watching it and I fuking loved every minute of it. Junaid, hats off to you. You exactly know how to keep the conversation going and bring out the best out from your guest. Jitna Pyar, utna kum! ❤
Junaid, Honestly speaking, I didn't know who this person was but ow i am glad that i liste4ned to him. Few years bac i knew few people who were in Music people, i know how much hard work it is, to get the job and respect. They were really very hard working and talented, i wonder where they are now. I appreciate these musicians who are making good music and keep on making music whatever the situations is. i appreciate your effort to make such a quality pod cast. keep it up. Can you please invite Jamal Shah. Adnan Sami Khan's son.
Amazing podcast and conversation. Just a suggestion for Junaid to please cover the mic whenever you’re trying to clear your throat. It’s unpleasant to the ears. I appreciate you and the great work that you’re doing.❤❤
I was blown by his playing on Atif Aslam’s Billy Jean version on CS. Comes across very passionate about his profession. Thoroughly enjoyed his commentary on the Pakistani situation in general and musicians in particular.
I love your podcasts, watched and listened to all of them. Recently watched you on Ahmed Ali Butt's podcast-it was amazing! Also recently watched Fawad Khan on Ahmed's show-bilkul maza nahi aya. Please bring Fawad on your show. I have a feeling you will be able to bring out so much more of him as a fan and as a great conversationist.
Great podcast. Loved listening to Gumby talk about his journey as a young musician in Karachi. Luvky to have experienced his performances live in Karachi in the 2000s.
We all know how great Gumby is as a drummer, but the podcast also revealed his great sense of humor. Gumby, please be more active on your UA-cam channel.
Gumby is the first guy i noted when i saw coke studio season 1 offcourse being a drummer myself. Pretty complete drummer and very few can amalgamate drumming to indian subcontinent rhythms fusing correctly while still being in the drumming realm with right touches. I remember in a bts arif lohar saying gumby to babbar sher he. Good to find this podcast.
thank you for bringing another legend on your show. Also junaid bhai you need to be commended for the knowing the pakistani and international music scene.
Big fan of Gumby. One of the biggest legend from my era. I remember when we were back in collage we ever gave a fuck who's concert is it. If Gumby or Faraz Anwar is playing we are buying the ticket.
Absolutely fabulous episode! Loved the story about Final Cut (arguably Pak's first hard rock band) trying to get a 12 year old prodigy to join them. Spot on about the ethical deficiencies that are so prevalent among us. My fav bit was the 'Pinto sahab kahan say aa rahey hain?'. Pinto Sahab's epic response ' Jannat say'. On the basis of this episode I'd be willing to pay to watch Pinto Sahab's stand-up performance if he ever decides to do one. Thank you for the music & all the best to Pinto Sahab!🙏
Junaid Bhai big fan from India. Love ur content. I request u please make video about PM Modi visit Lakshadweep. Its a great lesson for world about how to atract tourist in any country.

So true... You must listen "Mirza from Coke Studios" & "Gallan from Ali Azmat" to know what Pinto's real potential is ....
Gumby is the best, absolutely
❤

The best drummer ever produced by PAKISTAN! Thank you for all those amazing tracks youve contributed your drums to
Another gem is about to leave Pakistan, this country doesn't deserve a legend like you sir.
You are king 👑 for no reason

Gumby is really humble person,
I liked Gumby's view on how artists are treated like shit in Pakistan. It's sad to know that talent like this is disrespected which further discourages them in their pursuit of success and happiness.
When everything has become a matter of halal and haram, then it’s natural that any artist or a thinking person would be treated like shit.
