I remember being obsessed with Pokeradar chaining on Platinum back in 2011 over a decade ago. I've posted lots of videos of them here on my YT including the shiny sparkles. Gets me excited every time. My highest chain was around 130-140!

@@Lotlwa Once you get used to it, it'll be easy. A wide grass location and if a Pokemon you are chaining has a high encounter rate at that area, a chain of over 100 is definitely feasible.

@@somethinginteresting4180 Yes it did have a chance of breaking if you keep going, which I did for the fun of it and just to see how high I can extend my chain. But once you're at chain 40, your chance of getting a shiny is at its highest so just keep using the radar until one grass sparkles.
I got a random Shiny Buneary in Eterna Forest. First wild shiny I have ever gotten and first Bunneary I caught in the game.

It's probably just a placebo effect but I've noticed that I actually have a better chance of getting 30-40 chains if I constantly change my patches after 20 or 30. Doing so actually got me a shiny Starly at 21. So far I've got 1 Starly, 3 Pachirisu and 3 ratls. Also 2 Giratina but I duplicated it. The one I'm keeping is the legit caught one obviously. Going for Ponyta next

I personally believe 39 is the perfect place to stop the encounters it's 1/200 odds but you also get 4IV for the shiny
No 40th is the IV's
39 is perfect if you want good IVs, but I go to 40 because I don't care for good IVs really.
Oh wait catching it will be the IV's...
Hopefully they fix that part, and all Pokémon past 40 get those 4 perfect IV 😅

It’s so great to see someone reaching a shiny via this method. I’m still trying to get Shiny Piplup from the briefcase, and I’ve set a personal rule that if I can’t get it by a week before the Platinum bonuses are discontinued then I’ll accept the first Modest Piplup I get to breed a shiny one later in the postgame with a good nature~

The pain this main experienced is exactly why once I get to 39 I just start going for the shiny patch. Especially since #40 also includes two perfect IVs on top of that

Omg i know the feeling of frustration when it breaks on 40....
Entering grass touching other shaking grass would often break chains in the originals, likewise entering grass on the edge often broke chains, too. I'm not sure for certain, but I imagine these are things that were kept in the remakes. In the originals the reason edge grass is dangerous is usually just when you don't see 4 shaking patches, because it always makes 4 tiles shake, so when less than 4 patches shake that means a non grass tile is shaking and if you enter an edge grass that is touching an "invisible" shaking tile then you have a high chance to break your chain. It looks like a lot of the time your chain broke from walking into edge grass. Though at 8:05 that might've just been bad luck (or you entered grass touching other grass, it was kinda hard to tell)

My second Bidoof encounter after getting my starter in BD was a shiny. I was so surprised and happy to have a shiny on my team.

I‘m confused by one thing:
Some people keep chaining until their Pokétch in the upper right of the screen says „40“ assuming the 41st Pokémon is the first with maxed odds of 1 in 99.
Some other people already refresh their PokéRadar when it says „39“ in the corner which leads me to think that the 40th Pokémon already has the 1 in 99 chance AND the three guaranteed IVs.
So who‘s doing right? Can I have maximum odds AND 3 IVs at max when the counter is at 39 in my upper right corner? I just can‘t find a definitive answer to that.

Honestly the chain in this game is almost as unforgiving as XY and it’s making me so angry
math says you have about 5% chance of actually getting to a chain of 40 ...
So expect that only in 1 in 20 runs will actually get you to a 40 chain ...
Try to hunt shiny duskull or dusclops on route 224. Chain breaks everytime
@@arnonym8047 you only have a 5,5% chance of getting to a chain of 40 mate. It could easily take you about 18 runs before you get to a 40 chain. On average that is lol.
me too, I cant seem to be successful, idk what's going on, I think the 7% chance is a bit too high, I get it shiny are supposed to be rare, but 7% for 40 attempts with a refresh is really ruining me.
I got to 37 and got greedy. Immediately broke. I wanna cry.

I didn’t plan on using Luxray for variety reasons but I happened to find a shiny shinx on my way to jubilife city
Honestly I feel linlle people should just try to get a chain between 25-35. The odds are still great not to mention you wont have to risk breaking the Chain trying to get to fourty.
There's also the 4th method of using the grand underground and getting 40 diglets/dugtrios and getting 2/4096 chance of a shiny random encounter for 5 minutes, friendly PSA for anyone who doesnt wanna have their chain break for no reason lol
can u just keeping running into the same underground pokemon 40 times and have a 99 chance of it being a shiny?
@@visces4447 no like when you're running around the tunnels from room to room there are diglet and dugtrio that you can collect, once you collect 40 of them, you get a 5 minute span where you can enter one of those rooms and encounter all the wild pokemon and they have a 2/4096 chance of being shiny

I understand how painful it can feel. The worst way my chain broke once, was I accidentally ran into CRESSELIA in the middle of my chain! It was in the area, and I didn't know! My repel didn't work on it, so I encountered it, and my chain broke. So yeah, BE CAREFUL OF THOSE ROAMING POKEMON like cresselia or mesprit when chaining. make sure they aren't in the area or catch them first, I don't want that to happen to someone else. First time I got upset with encountering a legendary lol
I just got my first BDSP shiny on a 4 chain and LOST MY MIND XD An adamant Shinx I named Varka

Don’t worry, just be persistent. I couldn’t get past 18 for the first several tries. After that I got to 40 and got 5 shiny starlies!

I saw other videos saying that an edge patch of grass will 100% break your chain 🤔 but reversal gets a continued chain on several edge patches, i'm confused 🤔
its totally random where the chain breaks as we have a 7% chance that this thing breaks.....
When I was hunting for my shins I got it after a 12 chain
Managed to get my first shiny in this game, which was Bidoof. Found three of them with the pokeradar, and man it was nice
I also heard not to encounter them on the outside tiles it could also break the chain.
Always go for the patch which is 4 tiles away for you.
My Buneary chain broke at 38. I wanna cry
Jokes on you, my ralts chain can barely get to 10 even with me doing everything right and even making an overlay for my stream to insure that the grass patches are 4 spaces away 😂
I just stop at 38, then use the pokeradar to get your shinies.

Me to bro, I broke a lot of time over the 30th, I go in the 4 steps patch but the chain broke, the 7% of fail is to high and casual, is not correct this system. I hope that they fix this

Stay away from the edge of the grass. Seems like that's what's getting you here. The reason to avoid the edge is all the radar patches could generate to one side. That side can be the side that isn't grass.
Mine broke at 40 once so this feels extra bad man, good luck with it though. I'm also trying to get shiny Shinx!
Unless you went into a corner or encountered a different Pokémon, I don't remember chains randomly breaking for no reason in the originals...
in the originals you had a 98% chance when catching the mon that the chain continues....but in the remakes its only 93% and that 7% of misfortune is damn high!

Fix it? It coded to have a 7% failure rate even if you do everything correct....so there's nothing to "fix", it's a statistical probability.
Either I wasn’t paying attention but there was no shiny patch and still I stumble upon a shiny ralts at 9 counter did this happen to anyone else. I swear I didn’t see any shiny patches
When you encounter the pokemon it probably still does the roll 1/4096

I can’t do 😔 broken at 33, 35,31 and 38. The 7% is an high percentage to fail, 40 is a mirage for me and for this I leave shiny hunting 😭
try to reset when you are close to 20 or if you want to 30...the chance is down to 1 in 470ish when around 20th chain so it saves a lot of time and nerves if you just reset the radar instead of gettin to tha 40 chain!

Stop at a chain of 40 then just walk around the grass and keep using the pokeradar. At a 40 chain you get a chance of 1/99 for a shiny patch of grass to span, and you get higher then that

Shinies are too easy to get now, they are worthless. Remember back when we got them by chance and nothing else, that's when it was special. I mean how much easier are they gonna make it?
