This was happened a day after the most serious coup attempt vs. Former President Corazon Aquino. Luckily, we are spared from that gruesome moment in Philippine history.
At the time, lots of news stories by GMA and other networks (ABS-CBN, PTV, RPN and IBC, except ABC (now TV5) until 1992) in relation to the coup attempt, were aired in December 1989, but they preempted regular programming until Saturday and in the following week, with partial programming and the PBA Reinforced Finals on PTV, until the Government forces crushed the coup and thus saved Mrs. Aquino from the clutches of rebels and full regular programming resumed.

I think GMA Saturday/Sunday Report was ended by the middle of 1989, but it was from late-May 1986 to the middle of the same year, however, the Weeknight newscast GMA Headline News remained from Monday to Friday evenings until it was ended on January 3, 1992, a few days before GMA Network News was aired, the following week.
