Nice list but for me if 2017 had only BotW and Odyssey it will still be the best year by far. If you add to that Splatoon2, Mario+Rabbits, Arms, Xenoblade 2, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, etc. it is just an unreal year for Nintendo, and for any company to be honest.
My top 3 1. 2017, had the best games in my opinion. And really turned the company around. 2. 2014, Mario Kart 8 and Smash 4. Do I need to say more. I was extremely hyped for both of these games. 3. 2010, This is when I first started to play games. And Super Mario Galaxy 2 is my favorite game of all time.

This video was great Animal Crossing New Lead was my first AC game so there’s a lot of nostalgia there. I also loved DK country returns and so many of the other games you mentioned.
I call 2012-2016 the second dark age, with the first being 1997-2004. Both of these eras had some amazing games but generally saw Nintendo in the shadows behind Sony and Microsoft following a highly successful era (SNES and Wii).
People just call the Wii U a fail and move on and while sales and advertising did not show much, the games did, and is my favorite console hands down, and it's just really jealous of to see a channel who doesn't treat the Wii U like hot garbage

I think you forgot Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire in 2014 and Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon in 2017 which both would've really added to the years they were in, but I can understand seeing as you said you aren't a big Pokémon fan and I don't think these games were hyped up that much anyways.
2013 was the best year for me I got my 3ds Animal Crossing New leaf came out (I am a big AC fan.) Pokemon X came out (I love pokemon plus it was the first 3d pokemon game)

I agree, would probably put it between 2015 and 2011. 2020 had really good new releases (New Horizons, Age of calamity), some middle-of-the-road games (Origami King, Clubhouse games), and also had a fair amount of remakes (3D all-stars, pikmin 3 deluxe, Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition). While I like the remakes its not some people’s cup of tea, and the fact that the middle of the year was dry kinda brings it down for me. Otherwise I thought it was a fairly nice start to the decade, even with a pandemic going on.

I'd give it to 2014. Smash 4 and Omega Ruby are two games I absolutely adore and have sunk hundreds of hours into, and with Triple Deluxe, Mario Kart 8, and Tropical Freeze supplementing them it's not even close.

@@markus8086 I think galaxy 2 is better than all of those games. BOTW is very ambitious but it’s quite flawed and likely won’t age well compared to its successors. Nintendo land? Seriously? It’s good but a top 10 game of all time? Haven’t played it but party games are very circumstantial when it comes to their enjoyment, especially when playing alone. I suppose it depends on your metrics - I think Wii sports resort is one of the best games ever made myself, but whether or not that counts as a party game is up for debate. New leaf is fun but nothing mind blowing imo. Then again, I’m not the biggest animal crossing fan despite trying to get into it countless times. So maybe that game just isn’t for me. Galaxy 2 is pretty much a perfect game for what it’s going for, minus the green stars which could be fixed with some QoL touch ups like not booting you out of the level. Edit: now that I’m thinking about it? A lot of what you’ve mentioned are completely different genres so it’s pretty subjective at that point. At least, I’d say as far as platformers go galaxy 2 is the pinnacle.
@@callinater6133 Galaxy 1 and 2 are the best platformers of all time for sure. My favorite genre is probably party games, which is why I love Nintendo Land so much. It's the perfect party game. My other favorite games perfected their respective genre. Breath of the Wild is a perfect open world game, Miitopia is a perfect RPG, Void Terrarium is a perfect roguelike, and New Leaf is just perfect.

Personally I consider 2016 to be the worst Nintendo year, not only for the games but because it was full of controversies in all places, like Nintendo censoring some games, Nintendo taking down fangames like AM2R (which they had done before, but not at that level of notoriety), Smash 4 being broken after the release of Bayonetta, the lack of NX news, no E3, the Paper Mario, Star Fox, Metroid and Fire Emblem comunities breaking appart for the recent games and some other stuff. Nintendo has had controversies every year that tend to "balance"with the games released and announcements, but in 2016 there were barely any interesting games so it was very negative.

I think you had it backwards with 2010 and 2011. 2010 was an excellent year for Nintendo, Galaxy 2 and DKCR are excellent games. Kirby's epic yarn is fun too. Those are better than anything in 2011 I think. I didn't like Skyward Sword and OoT 3D is just a remake of a better game on N64.
Yes I think they did, I didn't include them because I already listed 7 games for 2014 and those Pokemon games were remakes and not new games entirely. But that's another reason 2014 is a great year!

My ranking 10. 2016: This year was set up to fail seeing as Nintendo was starting to focus on making the Switch behind the scenes and didn't really care to put much work into the Wii U which was already failing. 9. 2015: The few good games in this year( Splatoon and Mario Maker) have been followed up by sequels that are basically really improved versions of the games, and the rest of the games are just meh-worthy or hot trash. 8. 2011: Just a really mediocre year, nothing too good but nothing too bad either. 7. 2018: As someone who's a really big smash fan and someone who never owned a Wii U, 2018 was great for me, but I have to admit that Nintendo coasting off of Wii U ports and Smash Ultimate was kinda lazy seeing as none of the other games of this year really stuck with me. 6. 2012: Honestly I don't think 2012 was that bad, the only games I would call bad are New super Mario Bros 2 and Paper Mario Sticker Star, the rest are good to amazing, but other years outrank it so I can't put it any higher. 5. 2010: I think the quality of the games in this year was off the charts. From Super Mario Galaxy 2 being literally my favorite video game, to the triumphant return of the Donkey Kong series, and to some amazing Pokémon remakes, this year was a blast but it lacked in quantity to some years and must've felt very dry and devoid of games so I gotta dock points for that. 4. 2014: If I had to describe this year in one word it would be hype. When you have a year with a new Smash game and a new Mario Kart game and Pokémon remakes with some great titles sprinkled on the side you have a recipe for success and that's exactly what 2014 was, a big success. 3. 2019: I have a soft spot for 2019 because it was the first year I had my Switch and I spent it catching up on what I'd missed, but more importantly playing the amazing new releases that came my way. A lot of the games from this year are absolutely amazing and it was just a great year to be a Nintendo fan. 2. 2013: An amazing year overall, however it just barely gets pushed to second place because there were some games I've never played or just don't care as much for. 1. 2017: The strongest console launch year ever with an amazing 3D Zelda at launch and an amazing 3D Mario coming a few months later alongside Splatoon 2 which is Nintendo's most promising new IP and the best Mario Kart game ever. This year showed that Nintendo was back after the dark Wii U era and can still make some of the best games ever.
You think the year that released the 3DS was mediocre? 3D screen in the palm of your hand and you don't need glasses? Mario Kart 7 was really good. Also, the other features like voice recording and stop-motion filming made it a lot more fun! 0h well.

I wasn't basing it off of the consoles that released I was basing it off of how goo the games were that year and if I think it had mediocre games then I'm gonna call it mediocre.

I kinda disagree with Kirby Triple Deluxe being a bland Kirby game and Star Allies being boring Kirby game first with Triple Deluxe I thnk that game is one of the most unique Kirby games because of the level design, bosses and story, and for Star Allies yes when it first came out it's wasn't great but after all the updates it's gotten I think it's a great Kirby game, also Sticker Star is underrated t's the worst Paper Mario game but I really like it

I think you forgot Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire in 2014 and Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon in 2017 which both would've really added to the years they were in, but I can understand seeing as you said you aren't a big Pokémon fan and I don't think these games were hyped up that much anyways.

Personally I would put it pretty middle of the road. The first half had AC, middle had nothing, but it at least finished strong.
I agree, would probably put it between 2015 and 2011. 2020 had really good new releases (New Horizons, Age of calamity), some middle-of-the-road games (Origami King, Clubhouse games), and also had a fair amount of remakes (3D all-stars, pikmin 3 deluxe, Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition). While I like the remakes its not some people’s cup of tea, and the fact that the middle of the year was dry kinda brings it down for me. Otherwise I thought it was a fairly nice start to the decade, even with a pandemic going on.

Ye I had a Wii and Xbox 360 then later got a Wii U , lots of great memories from 2010-2016 but I’ve also had a lot of fun with the switch but I was a bit older when the switch released
I'd give it to 2014. Smash 4 and Omega Ruby are two games I absolutely adore and have sunk hundreds of hours into, and with Triple Deluxe, Mario Kart 8, and Tropical Freeze supplementing them it's not even close.
Nintendo in 2014, 2011 and 2015 were the best imo.
Any year of those mentioned in the video is still better than 2020

@@callinater6133 It's the greatest Mario game for sure (tied with Galaxy 1 and Odyssey), and it's definitely a top 10 contendor for me, but I'd say there are better games out there like Breath of the Wild, Miitopia, Void Terrarium, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, and Nintendo Land
@@markus8086 I think galaxy 2 is better than all of those games. BOTW is very ambitious but it’s quite flawed and likely won’t age well compared to its successors. Nintendo land? Seriously? It’s good but a top 10 game of all time? Haven’t played it but party games are very circumstantial when it comes to their enjoyment, especially when playing alone. I suppose it depends on your metrics - I think Wii sports resort is one of the best games ever made myself, but whether or not that counts as a party game is up for debate. New leaf is fun but nothing mind blowing imo. Then again, I’m not the biggest animal crossing fan despite trying to get into it countless times. So maybe that game just isn’t for me.
Galaxy 2 is pretty much a perfect game for what it’s going for, minus the green stars which could be fixed with some QoL touch ups like not booting you out of the level.
Edit: now that I’m thinking about it? A lot of what you’ve mentioned are completely different genres so it’s pretty subjective at that point. At least, I’d say as far as platformers go galaxy 2 is the pinnacle.
@@callinater6133 Galaxy 1 and 2 are the best platformers of all time for sure. My favorite genre is probably party games, which is why I love Nintendo Land so much. It's the perfect party game. My other favorite games perfected their respective genre. Breath of the Wild is a perfect open world game, Miitopia is a perfect RPG, Void Terrarium is a perfect roguelike, and New Leaf is just perfect.

Personally I consider 2016 to be the worst Nintendo year, not only for the games but because it was full of controversies in all places, like Nintendo censoring some games, Nintendo taking down fangames like AM2R (which they had done before, but not at that level of notoriety), Smash 4 being broken after the release of Bayonetta, the lack of NX news, no E3, the Paper Mario, Star Fox, Metroid and Fire Emblem comunities breaking appart for the recent games and some other stuff. Nintendo has had controversies every year that tend to "balance"with the games released and announcements, but in 2016 there were barely any interesting games so it was very negative.
I thought 2017 was going to be in first with absolutely no question. Also surprised 2010 was so low with SMG2 and DKC Returns, and most importantly the greatest kirby game ever made Kirby’s Epic Yarn
Mario Kart 7 was awesome. 3D land was pretty good. Pokemon is fun. The rest I either never heard of or played

I think you had it backwards with 2010 and 2011. 2010 was an excellent year for Nintendo, Galaxy 2 and DKCR are excellent games. Kirby's epic yarn is fun too. Those are better than anything in 2011 I think. I didn't like Skyward Sword and OoT 3D is just a remake of a better game on N64.
2017 is mine, we got botw, Mario odyssey, etc. it all depends on how good 2021 is

Yes I think they did, I didn't include them because I already listed 7 games for 2014 and those Pokemon games were remakes and not new games entirely. But that's another reason 2014 is a great year!

10. 2016: This year was set up to fail seeing as Nintendo was starting to focus on making the Switch behind the scenes and didn't really care to put much work into the Wii U which was already failing.
9. 2015: The few good games in this year( Splatoon and Mario Maker) have been followed up by sequels that are basically really improved versions of the games, and the rest of the games are just meh-worthy or hot trash.
8. 2011: Just a really mediocre year, nothing too good but nothing too bad either.
7. 2018: As someone who's a really big smash fan and someone who never owned a Wii U, 2018 was great for me, but I have to admit that Nintendo coasting off of Wii U ports and Smash Ultimate was kinda lazy seeing as none of the other games of this year really stuck with me.
6. 2012: Honestly I don't think 2012 was that bad, the only games I would call bad are New super Mario Bros 2 and Paper Mario Sticker Star, the rest are good to amazing, but other years outrank it so I can't put it any higher.
5. 2010: I think the quality of the games in this year was off the charts. From Super Mario Galaxy 2 being literally my favorite video game, to the triumphant return of the Donkey Kong series, and to some amazing Pokémon remakes, this year was a blast but it lacked in quantity to some years and must've felt very dry and devoid of games so I gotta dock points for that.
4. 2014: If I had to describe this year in one word it would be hype. When you have a year with a new Smash game and a new Mario Kart game and Pokémon remakes with some great titles sprinkled on the side you have a recipe for success and that's exactly what 2014 was, a big success.
3. 2019: I have a soft spot for 2019 because it was the first year I had my Switch and I spent it catching up on what I'd missed, but more importantly playing the amazing new releases that came my way. A lot of the games from this year are absolutely amazing and it was just a great year to be a Nintendo fan.
2. 2013: An amazing year overall, however it just barely gets pushed to second place because there were some games I've never played or just don't care as much for.
1. 2017: The strongest console launch year ever with an amazing 3D Zelda at launch and an amazing 3D Mario coming a few months later alongside Splatoon 2 which is Nintendo's most promising new IP and the best Mario Kart game ever. This year showed that Nintendo was back after the dark Wii U era and can still make some of the best games ever.
Wii U era was not dark it is the golden age.
You think the year that released the 3DS was mediocre? 3D screen in the palm of your hand and you don't need glasses? Mario Kart 7 was really good. Also, the other features like voice recording and stop-motion filming made it a lot more fun! 0h well.
@@chrisrj9871 well to be fair I don't even know what year that was and also the 3DS didn't really have that strong of a launch anyways. I wasn't basing it off of the consoles that released I was basing it off of how goo the games were that year and if I think it had mediocre games then I'm gonna call it mediocre.
@@ianeons9278 Games-wise yes it was pretty great, but in terms of sales it was a disaster because of the bad Wii U marketing and the gamepad really turning people off from buying the system. Don't get me wrong though I love the Wii U, it was just a hard time for the company.

I kinda disagree with Kirby Triple Deluxe being a bland Kirby game and Star Allies being boring Kirby game first with Triple Deluxe I thnk that game is one of the most unique Kirby games because of the level design, bosses and story, and for Star Allies yes when it first came out it's wasn't great but after all the updates it's gotten I think it's a great Kirby game, also Sticker Star is underrated t's the worst Paper Mario game but I really like it
