One thing no one mentions is on the Schacht looms are the paws and ratchets. They tend to jam and particularly the paws, being they are thin wood crack or even break on one end. This happens on booth sides of the loom. I have had that experience and it really turned me off to weaving for quite a while.
Yikes! I have not had that experience but definitely love the ashford pawl and ratchet system the best. The schacht, kromski and beka systems are much more finicky. That said- some hate how “loud” the ashford system is- but that loudness is what makes it easier to advance the warp and manage tension so- to each their own. It is nice to have choices.
I was trying to be impartial, lol. I personally like the ashford better for my kids and for quick samples. But if it is to be a “one and only” loom for an adult or teen, the cricket is an excellent choice
Great video! Lots of helpful information for a newbie like myself. I'm adding weaving to my business as well as my UA-cam channel, and have been struggling with a loom choice. Thank you for sharing! Xo, Mimi ✨
" . . . just schnick those extra ones off . . . ". I felt like someone was reading a script out of MAD magazine. Ahhh . . . the good old days. I didn't realize that was a technical weaving term. :)
They are ashford looms of this size are available from a store in New Zealand called Made in Marion in Wellington, NZ. They have a website. Send them an email.
Is there a difference between the sampleit and a larger Ashford rigid heddle loom? I have and 15" Cricket and am shopping for a larger loom and seriously can't decide. Schacht is much more expensive for the loom and the heddles as well. What's your favorite and why? TIA
There is a difference between thr sampleit and other ashford looms. I actually have all three kinds of ashford rigid heddle looms and can post a comparison video tomorrow.
Thank you for a very detailed explanation of both looms. I’m thinking about purchasing a rigid heddle loom.
IMO - the Ashford is perfect. I have bought 3 for home in varying sizes and a further 4 for my work - I am very pleased with all of them.
This was VERY informative and helpful. Thank you.
Good information. You have given me some things to think about before choosing. Thank you for making this video.

Very, very helpful! I was hoping you’d say which one you liked best . Thank you!

Very nice video thank you. You mentioned a hack for creating a longer warp on the samplet. Where would i find it?

good video and information. very helpful, thank you.
Generally, approximately how long do the heddles last?
As long as well as you treat them. So if you look after them, they'll last a very long time.

Lost interest when I heard plywood
There's no need to waste time on "hacks" to make the Ashford heddles work with the Schacht - Just buy the Ashford, it's more versatile.
This video confuses me. I have no idea which is which cuz it seems like she talks about one but points to another. Boo
