‘ Blue Velvet ‘ it’s blue, drives as smooth as velvet and a Fastback is as sexy as Isabella Rossellini and cool like Roy Orbison.
I like it
Can't believe you guys actually DROVE a car onto the trailer. Love the car and can't wait to see how it turns out.
Yes it's a rare sight!
Is so glad to see somebody else likes type three's, not saying that you like it yet. I own a 66 type 3 fastback com, when I bought it it was a lot rougher than what you guys bought. I drive a 67 beetle and look forward to someday soon driving this 66. Look forward to your content and what you guys are gonna do
New name = challenger.
Like the space shuttle and it’s a “new challenge” for you guys. 1st type 3 to play with.
Looking good and can’t wait to see this car come back to life!
Love me some VW life during lunch on Thursdays.
I accomplished lunch while watching your video. 👍🏻
I agree. I was going to say blue challenger.
Nice! I like blue challenger.
Will VW life reveal the name they chose??
68? Houston? Apollo of course!! As the owner of a Squareback, I can tell you that most everything is different than a Type 1 or 2, even though it may look the same... it's different, and usually more expensive. Fuel pump diaphragm is one example that comes to mind.. looks the same, but is not, and a T1 version won't work.
Bob.. thanks.. I've been stumped with the fuel pump in my type3 motor on my dune buggy
I hope the guys dont get too stumped.
I had a 71 FB in late 90's. My first car. Drove it home when I got out of the Navy...Seattle to Kentucky...3,125mls. Had original fuel injection and she would go over 100mph...pegged the speedometer needle. Cool car.
I've been to Space Center Houston and it was... AMAZING!!!
PERFECT thumbnail for this video!!!
Parv
And Matt Jackson, PERFECT vlogging setup you have because I need one just like this!!!
Parv
I second an earlier suggestion, Blue Streak…an homage to the way Gary can talk!
Ha ha ha
Love the Type 3! She’s gorgeous! In honor of Houston and NASA and this being your first Type 3 and trying something new, I think you should call her Sally Ride, after the first woman in space!
Oh interesting!
It's about time you guys did a type 3 👍
Blue midnight. 12 hour day with that gorgeous piece of machinery.
Yep
Excited to see a type 3! Restored my 70 Squareback ten years ago and need to finish up my 66 fastback! Body just went back on the restored pan! 😄👍
One of my favourite VWs of all time.. so glad you can achieve more variety in the VW historic world!!! Keep on the amazing job !! Another roadstoration on the run !!! ❤️
More to come!
Yeah! Just became a LIFER! We support #VWLIFE
Thanks Tony!
Fun project! My name suggestions...Blue Betty. Betty for short.
Ah okay cool
Love it...looking forward to the build. In honor of something really fast, add some yellow accents, and call her Blue Angel.
Ah okay
This is my old fastie! found on the Samba in Anaheim Ca. (behind Angel Stadium ) had no rear bumper crappy paint but complete and running great. Decided to drive instead of ship back to Pearland,Tx. Stopped in Phoenix. to pick up a rear bumper from some other Samba guys they had a shop we did a full tune up re synced the baby dells. installed the bumper. I drove this car for a few years as a daily then sold to a guy who was gonna do a full resto for his daughter, a year or so later he needed me to sign some thing said he was selling it to some gal in Oregon who was gonna do a full resto. How it up in Round Rock? I paid $3500 guy I sold it to $4500 in aug. 2014 said the gal in Oregon was gonna pay $7500 w a rebuilt motor
Finally! Can’t wait to watch the Type 3 content…I’m in the process of ruining a 68 squareback by installing a type 1 air bag beam and building full rear air ride.
Nice! Post a picture of it on our Facebook page! facebook.com/VWLifeVW/
Currently resto-modding a 63 notchback, my first type 3 was a 69 squareback back in 1986. Love them!
Nice! Post a picture of it on our Facebook page! facebook.com/VWLifeVW/
Ohh nice! In '77 I had a '65 1500S squareback and was sporting a souped up pancake in my sandrail. Glamis Baby!!!
Wow want to go there one day!
Call it "Bluey" The kids love Bluey!
Ah okay
When in the Air Force stationed in Germany in 1975 my car was a 68 VW Variant Fastback.
Very nice!
72 fuel injection VW Fastback owner.

Swifty! I’m excited to see more of type 3 stuff on the channel
I love the road trip videos! As for a name , how about, “Blue Streak”.
Thanks!
Notchback Mafia baby!!!!! Welcome to Type3 ownership!
It’s blue, it’s cute, and it’s going to I be a challenge. I would name her Smurfette! Have fun, I’ve always loved type 3 fast backs
Lol
Wow, nice find. Looking forward to future video’s. “BLUE FLAME” thanks for sharing ✌🏻❤️VWLife
Love your posts. Very helpful. I have a 1981 Westy vanagon. Idle issues. . Sunshine yellow
Mavis ❤️
(This is Emily who sold you the car) My Grandma who drove the ‘69 fastback ..her middle name was Mavis 😃
Hi Emily!!! I'm thinking Mavis the Fastback is the best name yet!!!
Loved the video - I had a 68 Fastback (red) when we lived in Raytown, MO. about 40 years ago. Wife, kids and dog and I traveled from MO to Ft Lauderdale. FL to visit family. Probably my favorite car of all I've owned and driven over the years. Looking forward to videos as you go through this "Blue Bomb". My was the "Red Rover"
Thanks for sharing!
I learnt how to drive in a Type 3. My Dad told me if you can learn to handle a VW and drive it fast and keep it in control you can handle anything. Ha ha that car taught me all I needed to know about oversteer lol!
Thanks for sharing!
Love Type 3’s. I’ve done 3 Fastbacks, and currently own a 68 Squareback. They’re great cars, but be warned… they can be money pits. You will become very acquainted with the guys at ISP West.
Love the fastback.. My dad had a 72 automatic back in the late 80s early 90, I wanted it badly, but he sold it. I would name the blue type 3 " Houston ".. Keep up the great content!!
I swear I have Type 3! BTW, the best view of Houston is in the review mirror! "Ask me how I know!"
Lol
Sonic! Blue and fast like the hedgehog!
Blue byou cause it's a fast back and blue. You can play with the spelling of it too👍Great score
Ah okay
Holy Moses! Everything seems to come back these days! When i was a kid in the early seventies, next to my parents house there lived an elder woman, somehow calm and hidden. She was a friendly widow, had an attitude like if she was a member of the royal family - and she owned a fastback like THIS. In a creamy beige colour. Her name was Mrs. Taplick. This car was her treasure. She kept it in her old garage behind a wooden barn door and drove it carefully only on sundays. Thank you guys for these flashbacks on this stormy friday morning in good old germany...
Wow thanks for sharing!
My Father worked on the retrofit of the 747's that carried the Space Shuttles.
That's awesome! It was quite the sight to see!
Cool project, can’t wait. “Apolllo 3”
The seats are wide and comfy!! The euro Cadillac for the not so rich!!
Yes!
Yeas!!! Type 3 action so I can learn more about my car!
Ah okay cool
Finally!! Type III content! Was beginning to think you all didn't like T3s.. :)
Hah we like them all
Awesome so cool. Always enjoy and love watching VW Life. 👍❤️
Can't wait to see the roadstoration on this one
So do we but it's kind of on the back burner for now
Congratulations on your new VW fast back can’t wait to see you guys working on that see you on the next video 👍🏻👍🏻
Rust issues? Where?! You should see my '68 Fastback... so rusty. Looks like you guys picked up a really nice one. I can't wait to see the progress!
Thanks John!
Got a 71 fi Fastback all completely stock and just restored. Excited to see this project come together! These type 3s are no hot rod compared to a type 1 but you get much more storage and practicality
Sonic - blue and fast(back)👍🏻
The Smurf. Can be a cool name Smurf 😁🤙🏻
Houston we have a Fastback!
It’s good to see H town Little Dude! Great video as usual
Thank you Big Dude! We were rolling thru H Town, it was good to be back for a day!
Can’t wait to see the progress, nice find, good luck. Name: Phoebe the type 3
Ah that's orginal!
Glad to see you guys found this, oddity rarely seen , hows ** bluesville***
Hum maybe
I had a 69 for about a year sold it. They seem so much bigger inside then my bug.
Can't wait to see what you are gonna do with this one!
Thanks so are we!
Tommie’s back!!
Sweet fasty 😎
I had a 1969 Type 3 Fastback, back in 1969. I bought it brand new, in Houston, where I lived, not long after I got out of the Army, in late 1968. Mine was the same color as that one. My Fastback even had A/C. The A/C condenser was located in the front of the car, right in front of the Rack and Pinion steering rack. It had it’s own cooling fan, located in the condenser housing, up front. The A/C lines went all the way to the engine, in the back. The A/C was good, but it did suck up some of the engine power. That VW Type 3 was my 3rd VW, the first VW being a 1964 Bug, purchased brand new, in 1964. I lost that, when I got drafted, in 1966. My 2nd VW was a 1961 Bug, which I bought while in the Army. The Type 3 had Fuel Injection, so it was different from the Bugs, and it was more enjoyable to drive. So, I’m glad y’all found that deal, and look forward to seeing it finished. Good Luck, and keep the videos coming on the Type 3. Enjoy your VW Life videos.
That's awesome thanks for sharing!
I’m doing a ground up resto on a 69 auto squareback for my wife. Pans done and just got the luggage tray replaced because of rust from the popouts leaking which is pretty typical on type3’s. Going to put the og fuel injection back on it with mostly nos stuff. You will be ordering a ton from ispwest only makers for a lot of the rubber.
Post a picture of it on our Facebook page! facebook.com/VWLifeVW/
Great video guys! My vote is Gonzales as in ‘Speedy Gonzales’ :)
Ha
The Blue Light Special 💙
Okay okay
Hi mr Alexander that car is crazy looking
Its. Pretty cool i used to have a squareback but it was not the year i liked good luck on your first one congrats guy's
Beautiful fasty.. love the thumbnail though im a bit upset that Palmdale didnt get one of the shuttles... seeing as they were friggin built there!! Im not bitter... no not at all...
Palmdale? Is that in Florida?
@VW Life Palmdale , Ca . outside of edwards afb . When i was a kid you would hear the double boom of the shuttle coming back from space. Currently Palmdale only has one of the piggy back 747s like in your. picture. All the shuttles were all built in Palmdale and glide testing done at edwards
Just discovered your awesomeness on UA-cam. So cool to watch all your content, you are inspiring big time. Love the Type3 and look forward to seeing it shine. Name idea, “Willie” after Willie Nelson’s songs Blue Skies. He was born in Abbott, very cool. Thanks again guys!
Thanks for the suggestion!
Name suggestion: "Sally" after Sally Ride, keeps with the NASA theme.
Interesting
Can't wait to see you do this one
First name that came to mind was Buzz for the space reference
You have made my year looking forward to some type 3 content. Down under where they where built until 1973 !
Love the fastback truly unique👍👍#VW LIFE
Indeed!
I love type 3, My wife has a 67 squareback
post a picture of it on our facebook page - facebook.com/VWLifeVW/
Very nice...so much potential..🤓
Nice car I really like those lines . And is a VW🙀🙀🙀🙀🙀🙀
Whattafasty, of course. Or Blue Thunder.
Fun Fact: I saw the Space Shuttle, perched on the 747, when it was making it's way back to FL in 1985. Oh, yea, name... Blew Bayou.
I say we put a big TURBO motor in .. and name it BLEW BY YOU... Great Idea Richard! 😉🤣
@@tommiesmith3369 spelling...schmelling... I'll split the winnings..
A 65 notch back was my daily driver for years in NM. It was a normal and came from the factory with a single side draft carberator. I still have a bug but the notch was the BMW 2002 version of a VW. Not sure why the Type 3 didn't outsell the bug. I also had a 70 Square back with the fuel injection. Pretty much the same system as the 914. Was great but needed attention.
Ah okay cool
Pretty sure the air intake grills on the 68 are backwards. You may want to do something about the cooling especially in warm Texas.
Lol
Cpt. Bluetooth - inspired by the first Danish king Harald Blåtann (Bluetooth)
The Blue Berry, blube or berry for short
Or Ridgemont since it’s a fast back
Ah okay cool
Finally! A type 3!!!
That's right!
Nice new project guys! I’ve been thinking I’d like to try a square myself….
Do it!
The Blue Bullet!! Double B
Ah okay
A name for the Fastback...?
This Car seems to be a great " Fasr'n three"!
Yes!
Super cool little motor ! How about roadrunner as a name as roadrunner was fast its a fast back .... Plus u could have some cool roadrunner decals ?
Seems a little to Dodge to me
I had a 1967, which was first year for dual port head & with the dual carb. ran great.
They drive so much better than a Bug, more stable on the road. Then with two trunks, a lot of storage. We put a roof rack on, load front & trunks with our camping gear, Greatness!
Wow epic!
Type 3s are awesome! How about the Blue Blur... ?
Always loved the shape of the fastback. My parents had one when I was a kid.
Yeah it's unique
My parents had one from new in 68 for 10 years. First car I drove. Love them! This was way back in the day when some service stations were still full service. My dad enjoyed the guy hunting for the engine. He would finally just start laughing while the guy was walking around the car trying to play it cool. Lol.
Huston would be a good name
What a beauty I love your content but I'm glad to see something new
Thanks!
Damn awesome my buddy has a Rhd fastback and many 21!windows bus for his project he restore them and sell em off so ridiculous what he can get for them but these things are hella awesome
Yes indeed!
I had a Type 3 Squareback as a loaner. It was a rocket compared to the Beetle. It also had front disc brakes. Made me wonder what the Beetle would feel like if I had the front brakes converted.
yeah they are pretty cool
67 fastback here..cant wait for this!
Nice! Post a picture of it on our Facebook page! facebook.com/VWLifeVW/
"NASA" the Fastback... Not just because of where you bought it, but also as an ironic name because it's actually Na Sa fast afterall 🤣👍🏻
Something makes me want to call her Dawn. It’s blue color reminds me of Dawn dish washing liquid and the shape is kinda like a Dawn bottle turned on it’s side.
Yeah right, it does
Lots of cool fastback designs in the late 60’s and this is one of them, cool color! It’s bootiful Gary 😊
Thanks!
My first car was a 67 square back with 15" rivera's
Awesome!
Very cool guys. I have a 67 Fastback that is totally taken apart for a full mechanical restoration for a daily driver. Looking forward to what you will do with this one.
Make sure you guys hit up ISP West for your type3 needs!!!
I would like to nominate the name Space Ghost.
Type llls will set you free from VW madness, good thing there's a bunch of you, draw straws to see who morgages their home first. I do miss vans and bugs for a while after watching your channel, fun bunch of loons.
Great point!
