Tip: Undo the steel nut first, then use a 'box spanner' to remove the black plastic nut which holds the tap in place. To refit, plastic nut then steel nut.
Might be helpful to warn people who have very SMALL washbasins. A standard basin wrench would not fit into the tiny recess in my wash-basin. You can get a wrench which is on the end of a metal bar, but in the current situation, I can't make multiple trips to the shops. I ended up having to improvise, using mole-grips and some blacksmiths tongs (don't ask!) . So ... check the size of the recess in your basin BEFORE you buy your basin-wrench, especially if you have a small wash-basin.
Hi Marty, yes unfortunately there are many many sizes to be fair I always try and have a tap spanner anyway and would always recommend people purchase the two. But this will depend on the users requirements and needs. 👍🏻 Tread carefully guys
No worries marty Non-taken mate but I do think it’s sometimes worth getting a tap spanner too for the sake of a few quid it’s always worth it Have a good day mate thank you
You have two options David, one is to isolate and remove the old pipework and fit new, or two clean it up best you can with a spark plug hard bristle brush and lubricants. Either way there is no easy way with that one I’m afraid.
To be honest Mitchell, I don't have a preference. It is which ever fits in better sometimes a trusty spanner and socket does the trick. I would say I prefer the crows foot to a traditional basin wrench. 👍🏻
(sorry for any words that may seem weird im Swedish) Hi Dan! Me and my dad have decided to try and change basin taps but the space for the wrench is too small to fit. Please help!
Sometimes a basin spanner isn’t always the best choice in that situation but an awkward angle and a pair of grips with an adjustable will do the trick.
@@PlumbingGy to be honest I haven't changed taps before and on the videos I've watched no one else has mentioned it, although I'm handy at doing jobs myself and as a woman, so maybe I'll get a plumber in to do it

Nice one thanks for the tips and comment 👌🏻😁
Brilliant video. Lovely and clear. Off to buy my basin wrench!
Hahaha link in description😂👍🏻
why not loosen the flexi off and use a box spanner on the back nut? Am i missing something?
Because this is user friendly, not many people who aren’t handy or in a trade have a box spanner to hand 👌🏻
Nicely explained in details.
Thanks 😊
Great video and directions!!
Great video! Very easy to follow the instructions.
Thank you so much for all your super easy instructions? You really explain very simple easy too
Thank you rose glad I can help

@@PlumbingGy Sure. No criticism implied. It is a really helpful video. So those weird devices are called tap spanners. Right. thanks for that !

Good tutorial. Thank you. I have a question, when I turn on my handle it begins to turn off by itself. Any ideas of it's the cartridge or washers
Dan how do you turn off supply of water to taps? and if you do how can you turn off the hot supply as not turn burn yourself? Thanks.
VERY USEFUL, THANKS 😊😊🌻🌻🌹🌹🙏🙏
Very helpful
Keep me coming Dan 😁🔧👨🏾🔧👍🏾
Love your channel Dan
Thank you 💪🏻
Tap back nut is stuck. The whole tap spins when trying to remove it.
thank you for great video .....
*Perfect for the beach*
That was REALLY GOOD!!!
Thanks !!!
Xxx
Thank you 👍🏻
THANKS ✊️
My husband is a huge diy. I need to show him this
DNVlogsLife A 😊 thanks guys appreciate it. 14 years in the plumbing industry so plenty more tips coming 👌🏻
thts pretty helpful video... :)
Thank you 👍🏻
What spanner do we use to give this quick nip to release and tighten back the flex? Woulb it be an adjustable basin tap spanner?
Tap spanner would be ideal 👍🏻
What about if it's old solid pipework and rusted nuts, no plastic nuts or flexi pipe, ?
You have two options David, one is to isolate and remove the old pipework and fit new, or two clean it up best you can with a spark plug hard bristle brush and lubricants. Either way there is no easy way with that one I’m afraid.
Do you prefer using this basin wrench to the rothenberger adjustable tap spanner?
I always find it quite difficult with the rothenberger tap spanner
To be honest Mitchell, I don't have a preference. It is which ever fits in better sometimes a trusty spanner and socket does the trick.

👍🏻
What is actual name of the tool, what is size?
Do you have a video on how to do the same on a Basin. I can't find any video's that shows how to change Basin normal separate taps into a mixer
If you're changing separate taps for a mixer you will have to make sure the basin is compatible, does it have two smaller holes etc?
@@PlumbingGy yes
WAIT! You said replace/repair. We have to clean too? I'm out! lol. Helpful vid ;)
Hahaha that's optional Jen 🤣 thank you for your comment
Great, thanks
can you replace both taps with one mixer tap?
You will struggle as the basin will have two holes, normally only big enough for a standard tap not a mixer
Why people talk about reattaching cold water feeder pipe?
Why would that be disconnected?
Thank you so much for this amazing video. 🚰😊

You may need a tap wrench wrap it around the tap connection then use a box spanner/back nut spanner we call them, to remove the tap 👍🏻
Need to know how to drain the hot tank please.
Normally from a drain off on the bottom fill point
@@PlumbingGy sorry that means nothing! Do you have a video for this process please? Thanks
can see a huge dead spider
❤❤❤
But how do you use a spanner to undo the flex when there is insufficient space ? E.g. when a bath or sink is hard against a wall ?
Sometimes a basin spanner isn’t always the best choice in that situation but an awkward angle and a pair of grips with an adjustable will do the trick.
Helpful! But I still think I’ll pass this task on to my hubby (-Mommy Seed, Nikki)
😂😂😂😂😂love it
Surely if the water supply is turned off and the boiler is turned off you won't get burnt changing the hot tap
What about a cylinder full of hot water?
@@PlumbingGy to be honest I haven't changed taps before and on the videos I've watched no one else has mentioned it, although I'm handy at doing jobs myself and as a woman, so maybe I'll get a plumber in to do it
Dan, just get a professional basin wrench
Waste of money mate this does the trick and cheaper 🤣
Incredibly poor design for access.
