When the Americans granted independence to the Philippines 77 yrs ago in 1946, property rights and city planning became a free-for-all in a country that had no experience in how to govern itself. Every ugly home in your video is illegal. Some have been there since the 50’s. Recent administrations are learning how to fix this. MMDA and DLG are going in the right direction but it will take time. Metro Manila has a beautiful master city plan that was established by the Spanish and improved by the Americans. Everyone wants to see Manila follow that plan and regain the beauty it once had during colonial times but that will probably happen after our lifetime.
it is heartbreaking when you see multi-national building door to door, next to a slum not just in the Philippines but in other countries around the world you begin to question what are the politicians doing for the communities they represent over 70 years after WW2 this shouldn't be happening
Metro Manila really hasn't changed for me after 50 years. They've just created bubbles of progress which they continually improved again and again. Same slums, same squatters, same dirty alleys and dirtier walls in the poorer areas. Same mishmash buildings and ugly structures where tourists normally don't wander around. Those places I've described are where the "REAL" Filipinos lives. The people who staffs and services those beautiful bubbles slips behind those beautiful buildings and into those alleys and boarded huts. It's still their fault though. I used to blame the trapos(traditional politicians). Now, I know better, they were elected to be in those positions and the people who elected them are the same ones who lives in the alleys.
I hope you will also film that place after the government relocated and demolished those slum areas, the new administration is just waiting for the budget to be approved.
Have your Government build a house or apartment before relocate them. In Malaysia the Government give land to poor people or if you have land the Government help to fund and build the house cost RM60,000 ( PHP 746,284,10 ) and every month they pay RM300 ( PHP 7,438.43 ) that is why in Malaysia you seldom see slum in the cities or rural areas
How is it they allow people to build houses below a bridge/highway or it is build a bridge over peoples houses? I thought people are not allowed to live under bridges in Manila.

Where they are living now is their choice. They don't want to pay rental, electricity & water as they can avail of these by connecting illegally. It's their choice & no one else.
Show what you're showing us to the Philippine government and ask them to help the people living in slums. Then again, it might get you into trouble, who knows!
Great exploration around Binondo Manila. Interesting to watch till the end. Tnx 4sharing kabayan 👍
wow.. they do everything in the little pathway.. eat, poop, shower, playground, hang around!
Hahahaha 🤣
May tubig sa kalsada pero wala laging tulo from the faucet.😭
Manila looks like our Kampala. Lots of love from Uganda!
The city of Manila is so beautiful!
Wow! Philippine ghetto life next to the Philippine coast guard station,no B.S.
There must be correlation between the average IQ of the inhabitants & the living conditions they create for themselves...
It is a God Blessing leaving Philippines, Filipino Folks. Almost
80,000,000 million Filipinos living in this kind of Conditions, Folks!
good effort
U should do Sampaloc district soon.

Manila used to be most western city before WW2. It is far more modern in that time better than Batavia Jakarta under Dutch, or British Malaya cities.
Looks a lot like downtown Vancouver east side 😮
50 years still the same in philipine..it may take more 100 years to clean this mess, .

In Makati City, a flashy neighborhood with beautiful Condos and High rise buildings are sorrounded by Squatters and Slums, Filipino Folks!

I prefer Makati and BGC anytime..this side of PH no need to show.

Untapped resource of labor. The solution is jobs jobs jobs
Ang ipanganak kang mahirap hindi masama yan pero yung hindi mo iniahon ang SARILI mo sa KAHIRAPAN its YOUR CHOICE
In America we’d tear down their shacks and make ‘em live on the sidewalk, wake up people the wealth disparity is bringing this to a city near you soon
