I own 2 Czech German shepherds, male and female. Everything you said about the GSD is right on. Mine are young, and I hope you were wrong about the health issues, but guess we will find out in several years. I want my dogs to live a long healthy life, so I feed them diamond naturals chicken and rice and I mix in some real turkey or chicken or beef each meal. I also feed them a raw egg most days and 2 cans of sardines per week each. Hopefully this will keep them healthy and happy for many years. I also have to play ball with them twice a day and work their energy out, I bought these string balls that allow me to throw it a lot farther. If I don't then they get antsy and pester me until I do, hahaha. I also take them for walks in the woods for 2 miles a couple of times a week, so with all this energy worked out they are very happy and calm dogs. btw I have also lost 60 lbs 40 since I bought them not just form the walks but from WW as well but walking defiantly helps. You can't be a couch potato and own these dogs. So if someone is lazy and don't want to get out and do things with their dog, they shouldn't own a GSD, believe me I know. But if they want a loyal, protective, super smart, gentle and loving dog for their owners, GSD's are great dogs to have. I will keep GSD's for the rest of my life because they are a perfect fit for my needs.
Have a working line male and a show line female. Daily training and attention when they are young is key to a good relationship with you and your dog. I will never own another breed because these dogs never disappoint.
I have a 6 month old German Shepard under the care of a care taker at the farm. I visit twice in a week. I feel he doesnt get much attention. The way he gets excited when i go there is so amazing.
We have german shepherd so long time in life it is very faithful and helping the owner stress free and strong in physically it's a family member who guards owners thanks.
