As soon as I saw the video title my brain immediately said “Ethnos”, it just really replaced Ticket to Ride for me. I’ll still happily play Ticket to Ride, it’s a classic for a reason, it’s great and very accessible. But Ethnos is like, a top 5 game for me, it’s just never gone wrong, it’s always so fun and plays well all the way from 2-6.
Ethnos, Royals, Copenhagen, Iquazu, Sunrise Lane, US Telegraph... All with the same 'Ticket to ride' Rami-esque thing of collecting and playing sets to advance the game in whatever the game does. Ethnos definitly the gameriest of them...
Great set of picks. Another popular staple game that would be a good pick for this series is Pandemic. I can think of a number of good games that are either action point and/or cooperative.
For me Ticket to Ride is a game I can play with anybody. I deter almost nobody when I pick this game. I can play this with my parants, friends and in a few years with my kids. The theme also plays an important part in that. Im sure the cover of Ethnos wont attract my mother for example.
Good news is Bus is getting a reprint from Capstone later this year I just saw. A bit more esoteric of a follow-up recommendation, but an interesting game I'll need to try again. -Chris

In the case of Ticket to Ride, the "tickets" establish hidden goals for certain routes, while in Takenoko, the cards establish hidden goals for certain combinations of bamboo. And I much prefer Takenoko's theme.
Great series! Pan Am and Caesar's Empire are great picks. I'd probably suggestion Trekking the World before History. Splendor would probably be in my pick 3, to satisfy the same "collecting a hand of goodies" feel as TTR.

Great American Race - similar weight, you spend cards to go to a route, the board is a map, and you can hate draft cards when you expect someone is going to a location to block them.
Digging the Pick 6 series! Like @codainlaw said, the talk show vibe is nice. I've always overlooked Archeos Society but I might have to give it a proper look now. Hopefully it plays well at 2!

Lords of Waterdeep is not a train game, it is not a cutthroat route building game, it does not use a rummy mechanic … I don’t see how it’s like Ticket to Ride at all! 😂
Trekking the world is my TtR. It has the card market mechanic, trading in sets of colors for points, there still is that potential of blocking and competition that is in TtR, just not so brutal, and on my turns I feel like there is a bit more choice and the journey cards give you ways to midigate not being able to get the color of the cards you want. For me Trekking the world is THE replacement for TtR.
How about Splendor? The conditions for drafting remind me of TtR. Trading in what you've drafted scores points and remains in effect helping you for the duration of the game.
I thought of Mangrovia, which I had a blast with when I was first getting in to the hobby. Definitely worth checking out if you can find it and want to add some more crunch to TtR.
I think we said in the video it's definitely more analogous to Ticket to Ride, Trekking through History is a little more fresh and it's okay that it's a little more different. But that whole series is a good recommendation. -Chris

I would definitely include New York 1901 on this list. It's a fantastic game, far better than TtR in my opinion! If Thurn & Taxis was still available I'd add that too as it is also better than TtR. Sadly it's OOP at the moment.
Amazing game, a good recommendation but man I wish it had color-coded the cities into regions for easier reference. I literally took sharpies to the Dice Tower copy and colored the regions and cards.
One and done for me. Felt way too simple and was really boring. I'm sure there is room for clever play but perception is reality. Not surprised no one talks about it anymore.

If you focus on the route building aspect of TTR I will mention Age of Steam which of cause brings along an economic aspect aswell.

What about the award-winning Thurn and Taxis? When we found that my wife and I stopped playing TtR.
Also a good game, but harder to find. We tried to make the picks games that are easier to find.

You might try Asara and Spike too. Both have elements of Ticket to Ride.
