Pope at that time did not had any power over a catholic church (as an institutional chuch did not exist yet) he was simply the Patriarch of Rome. Also crusades only came 500 years later as a reaction to the muslim conquest of the holy land and also due to the overpopulation of europe meant they had expendable manpower to ship to a far away land. I dont think Europe at the time of Hunnic conquest had enough people to sustain a full scale holy was :D but holy crusader horde as a concept might be a fun to play in EU4
