Bro, Your 1st video has been inside my head for a long time now! Also, There is another video but, it's in Spanish & they had an issue with a focus(zetec) & were all inside the fuse box! MY FANS WON'T WORK & EVERYTHING IS NEW/EVERYTHING! The most important thing is to get rid of the plastic barb that ford installed as a failure point, IT IS LOCATED ON ONE OF THE REAR HOSES THAT COME OFF THE BACK SIDE OF YOUR THERMOSTAT HOUSING & GO TO THE HEATER CORE! I used a 5/8th's piece of copper tubing & 2 hose clamps & got rid of the plastic barb! I spliced one of the 2 cht sensor wires & ran a toggle switch inside the car & simply loop from one end of the cht wire that I spliced, to the toggle & back to the other end of the wire that I cut from the cht sensor & it allows me to turn the fans on at will, when the car is running & I don't have to worry about frying my alternator as much but, I do like your fix however, Keep in mind that, The zetec motor has a threshold temperature that it needs to be in to keep from doing damage to the main & rod bearings & that is between when the fans click on & off so, between 198 & 213 degree, as long as you are in between there, You should be fine, If to cold, you are using up more gas! I have considered buying a kit from amazon that comes with a temp gauge & a temp sensor so that I can get a better idea of what temp my motor is at to know when to turn the fans on & off rather then just guessing & or turning them on every time I stop, or when im not on the interstate! Good alternative & I would have done your fix but because of heating up my motor, I fried main bearings & as I was replacing them, I had a family member pass & I rushed the car together & I have a massive hill within 1/4 mile of my house & had to take the hill upon the first few minutes of getting the car together & did not realize yet, that my fans were not working/the underlying reason! Thank you & I am glad that you have found a good fix & are able to hop up your engine & tune. I looked for the link for that programmer & I didn't see it, Can you tell me what it is please? I am going to replace my motor & would be cool to use hopefully a svt engine with a tuner HOPEFULLY?????? IF EVERYTHING WOULD BOLT UP TO MY TRANSMISSION (AUTOMATIC TRANS) ON A 03 FOCUS ZETEC VIN-3

Hi. Can you take a picture of the plastic barb that Ford installed as failure point?? My fan is working fine but I have an overheating issue in uphill and on highway. I have change the tstat and the water bump but it still persist.

For any other zetec or even svt owners who have exhausted all other options, I cut into one of my CHT SENSOR(TEMP SENSOR) WIRE'S & RAN A TOGGLE SWITCH INSIDE OF THE CAR, & CONNECTED TO JUST ONE OF THE WIRES & WHEN I BREK THE CIRCUT WITH THE TOGGLE SWITCH, THE FANS COME ON & BACK OFF WHEN I FLIP THE SWITCH OFF! (CHT SENSOR IS LOCATED BEHIND THE ALTERNATOR & THE WIRING HARNES IS LOCATED ON THE TOP TIMING COVER BY THE ALTERNATOR, 2 WIRES-1 IS WHITE W/PURPLE STRIPE & THE OTHER IS BROWN W/WHITE STRIPE!!!) Hope I help at least one person

hi your ford focus videos are good, I see them to take reference of your car. I have the same car and I wanted to know if you installed the exhaust with the original manifold? Or did you complete the exhaust with aftermarket headers in a single opprtunity?

Hi i do have in fact have aftermarket exhaust manifold and exhaust system

I have after market headers and exhaust. You can run stock headers but you wont get the exhausts full potential.

This tuner is $399 on Amazon, is there a cheaper way to do this? I have an '01 Zetek and it overheats in stop and go traffic. I run the AC which turns the fans on high speed and that has worked until yesterday. It overheat with my daughter and AC was on but it was cool and rainy, may have affected it.

If your fans are on and the car is still overheating there is probly something else going on with the car. The tuner is at that price. They are not cheap because they are tuners and they are used to tune the vehicle for performance

I as well have a 03 focus(2.0 dohc zetec vin-3) which, My cooling fans do not work period! I have replaced everything & yet, They do not come on!!! I replaced the water pump, radiator, thermostat, & the entire thermostat housing(upper & lower housing) & gasket, new timing belt & tensioner, new cooling fan solenoid, & cooling fans, & the cooling fan solenoid which is in between the two cooling fans (on early models, the solenoid is on the inside of the cooling fan so, you must remove the cooling fan to access it!) BE WARE THAT FORD INSTALLED A FAIL POINT ON THE 1ST GEN FOCUS! IT IS CONNECTED TO THE HEATER CORE HOSE WHICH COMES OFF THE REAR SIDE OF YOUR THERMOSTAT HOUSING & SHOOTS BACK TOWARDS THE DRIVER SEAT & CIRCLES ARROUND THE MOTOR BACK TO THE HEATER CORE! IT IS WITHIN THE FIRST FOOT OF THAT COOLAT HOSE/HEATER CORE HOSE THAT CONNECTS TO YOUR THERMOSTAT HOUSING, FORD INSTALLED A PLASTIC BARB & IT FAILS & MOST OWNERS ASSUME THAT THE THERMOSTAT OR THERMOSTAT HOUSING IS BAD, I SHOULD HAVE JUST GOT A LONGER 5/8TH HOSE & ELLIMINATED IT BUT, I REPLACED IT WITH A PIECE OF 5/8th's COPPER TUBING & TWO HOSE CLAMPS! Do the basics, replace your water pump, thermostat, & your coolant overflow/expansion tank, & replace your antifreeze, check or replace your cooling fan solenoid, & the cht sensor(coolant head temperature sensor) it is on the passenger side, rear of your motor(on zetec motors) right past the alternator, simply remove the serpentine belt & slide the alternator out of the way, (CAREFULL TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY 1ST!!!!! & BE SURE NOT TO DAMAGE THE CONNECTORS ON THE ALTERNATOR! The coolant head temp sensor has two wires & has a connector which attaches to the top timing cover that covers the camshafts! Simply look at the alternator & the timing/camshaft cover & you will see the connector! By disconnecting that harness for the cht sensor, your fans will run constantly & will eventually fry your alternator!!!!!!!!!! I CANNOT GET MY FANS TO RUN AT ALL EVEN THOUGH EVERYTHING IS BRAND NEW SO, I CUT INTO ONE OF THE CHT(COOLANT SENSOR WIRES & RAN A TOGGLE SWITCH TO THE INSIDE OF THE CAR & BACK TO THE OTHER END OF THE CHT SENSOR WIRE THAT I HAD CUT, USED HEAT SHRINK, SOLDERED THE ENDS & NOW, I CAN TURN THE FANS ON AT THE FLICK OF A SWITCH! The cht sensor, one wire is 12v & the other is 5 volt reference! I cannot remember which wire I use? One of the 2 wires is brown or tan with a white stripe, & the other is white with a purple stripe! If you have replaced every part mentioned above minus the timing components, CHANGE YOUR THERMOSTAT, & DEFINITLY GET RID OF THE PLASTIC BARB IN THE HEATER CORE HOSE THAT ATTACHES TO THE REAR SIDE OF YOUR THERMOSTAT HOUSING! ALSO, change your water pump, & cooling fan solenoid! You can test your fans by simply running your car & watching to see if the fans come on, also, if your A/C WORKS YOU CAN TURN ON THE A/C & the low speed should kick on! My A/C doesn't work so, I had to disconnect the cht sensor(temp sensor) & both fans came on! plus, I ran 12v to each fan so, I knew my fans were good! I HAVE A ECU PROBLEM OR A WIRING PROBLEM! SPLICING INTO ONE OF MY CHT SENSOR WIRES & RUNNING A TOGGLE IN BETWEEN, I RAN THE TOGGLE SWITCH INSIDE THE CAR & RAN THE WIRES OUT THREW THE CAR & THREW THE FIREWALL & DRILLED A HOLE & MOUNTED IT! HOPE I HAVE HELPED YOU SOME? Make sure you check your under hood fuses & the 4 relays for your fans(also under the hood fuse box!)

Zx3 ford focus crank bearings are notorious for going bad that will cause heat to creap up no matter what you do .

Hello Bro, I fined tuned my 00 Ford focus zx3 with SCT.
The overheating problem got resolved. Thank you.
Since I just installed full exhaust 2.5 on my focus. Just wondering is there a setting on the SCT to recognize that my exhaust piping is 2.5 now instead of the stock piping 2.0? Just use SCT to reprogramed it for the heating issues.

Glad it helped. The sct is a base tuner that allows basic unlocking and access into the ecu. To be able to set custom tunes you will need the tuning software that requires a computer which is another tool/application that sct offers. Thats if you know how to tune yourself. Otherwise i would recommend taking it to be dyno tuned to get full benefit of mods
