      Even with a further improved D personnel, and a slightly further improved O personnel, obviously due to how Holmes will continue to work his magic, mostly through the drafts, the Lions will only win 9-11 games this 2024 regular season,
      but due to the 2024 draft and head coach Campbell further instilling the GRIT mindset,
      the Lions will win playoff games into the Super Bowl. Will they win THAT SB? I don't know, but they'll at least win the one after.

I'm full of optimism for next season with all the talent, the great coaching, and an incredible GM. I'm looking forward to the Lions being a great team for some years to come... All very good, sir - except I must amend your story here... The Lions did *NOT* pick between two offers for who they would trade Matthew Stafford to. Like 10 days after the Lions hired Holmes and then Campbell, Stafford out of the blue came to them and asked for a trade. This was NOT what either Holmes or Campbell were expecting, because I guarandamntee part of the reason both took the job is that they had prime Stafford to build around. But, because of the quality of people and professionalism of all involved, after the Lions couldn't change his mind, they agreed to work with him to try to trade him somewhere he wanted to go. The 49ers offered a package, as you mentioned, but so did the Panthers and Commanders. So Brand New Lions brass and Stafford held - and boom, there's McVay with the best pick package yet (2 1sts and a 3rd) AND Goff...
    Who, of course, Brad Holmes was instrumental in the Rams trading up to draft as Holmes was high up in the front office scouting and reporting directly to Les Snead back then. Look back at all the Rams talent building through draft back to even before Goff - and that's the guy the Lions got. The dude in the center of all the data building and hard work, so it's truly no wonder that the Lions now draft like bosses. Hell, the institutional knowledge at Rams HQ is still in effect as seen by the draft they had this past season to get Nacua et al.. Something the Rams and Lions scouts are doing is paying off BIG TIME).
    Anyway, no knock on your work, man, this was excellent. I just wanted to make sure you understood how special the story is with Lions trading Stafford... It wasn't a matter of the Lions holding out for the best offer, it was two parties equally respecting each other trying to do the best for each other. And it's playing out like they both won big time. Truly amazing.

    Anybody who thinks the Lions are going to go out and sign big name free agents is really not paying attention. They will probably get a CB, Stephon Gilmore feels like a possible fit on a 1 or 2 year deal. But thats going to be about it. This team will continue to add talent via the draft and supplement depth via free agency. Brad Holmes basically said as much already

    • @dereckdunckel
      @dereckdunckel 7 місяців тому +1

      I tgink that you hit it on the head, they'll probably sign a couple of mid tier starters to short term deals and some depth. It is possible if the right guy pops up they could sign one top end guy but I don't think that it is very likely

    • @satchelraidincoming636
      @satchelraidincoming636 7 місяців тому

      @@dereckdunckel Yeah, I think the hard part is that even though they have money right now, they are going to be in cap trouble soon with the big contracts that are going to be coming for our own guys.
      I am wondering if Holmes will get some of those deals done this year (Goff and Saint in particular since they are on the final year) and up their cap numbers for next season while we have money to lower their cap hits in coming years when Sewell, Alim and Hutch come due

    • @dereckdunckel
      @dereckdunckel 7 місяців тому

      @satchelraidincoming636 they're actually pretty good as far as cap goes for quite a while as long as they don't get wild. Goffs raise can be mitigated by tracy walker being gone by the time his extension even takes place then some of their own guys that they sign to longterm deals can be a little back heavy as well so they definitely can still make a responsible small splash without worrying as long as they keep it short term deals. I'm way more conservative than most when it comes to free agent spending but I do feel like if they can get a top tier guy on a short term deal that they should go for it since there window is already started

    • @dereckdunckel
      @dereckdunckel 7 місяців тому

    If the Lions defense gets better, watch out. Because their offense is already top tier. So in free agency I would concentrate on defense again. Add one or two pieces then in the draft add at least one more. Then add one WR in the draft because that's a deep group. They have 4 of the top 92 picks. They could easily find 4 contributors from that.
