On my opinion one of the best movie races ever!
1971 Chevrolet Monte Carlo - Sean Boswell / Lucas Black
The production team used 11 of these, in total. A stock-car pro-grade suspension was a must. The engine was a Bill Mitchell 632ci big block with a Holley 4-barrel carb on a World Products intake manifold. March Pulley Systems brackets and pulleys, a NOS system, a Jaz fuel cell, Earl's Performance Fittings steel braided line and anodized fittings, Hooker headers, a Flowmaster dual chamber exhaust, a Be Cool radiator, an Edelbrock water pump, Global West front and rear tubular control arms and weight jacks, Year One coil springs, Wilwood disc brakes, Speedway Engineering swaybars, Wenco 1350 extreme performance driveshaft, Quick Ratio steering box with IROC Camaro internals, Matt Sweeney reinforced fram and rollcage, Moser 12-bolt with Moser Spool 4.88 gears, and KYB shocks.
Appearance mods include a Fiberglass Trends cowl hood and Hella headlights.

Also HP is a formula: torque x rpm. When you see a engine like this with "only" 800hp, is because revs low, but has plenty of torque.

That car was probably on stock suspension too, most modern cars will obliterate it in the corners.
That being said I'd take the Monte carlo over the viper any day of the week.
The thing is the Monte Carlo had a better top speed and the Viper had better handeling

@@nht130It had a built 572ci crate motor. 780hp on 93 octane, 840 on E85 fuel. So even IF he was running pump gas in that beast Sean still had +280hp more than the viper. It also had drag slicks and 4.88 gears. Sean would've literally had time to come to a full stop, get a perfect angle around the corner and then speed up again before the Viper even got to the first turn. BUT, it's a movie lol.

It's definitely one of the best filmed action scenes in the series. There's a lot of detail that looks real, like the ramming scene and shot of the Viper hitting the concrete pipe.

I wish they would continue this storyline. This was way more fun than the other fast movies. Just being about cars and racing. I like what they focus on! I love all the fast furious movies btw..
The problem isn't the newer Fast and Furious movies didn't focus on cars its that they focused too much on action and a stiff lead-in Vin Diesel. Hard to sell a car movie with action when the car guy (paul walker) passed away. Leaving you with riddick with cars.
This exact Monte Carlo is my ultimate dream car, and it hurt to see him destroy it like that lol. You can see if it stayed a fair straightaway, he would’ve kicked that Vipers ass. Or any other car. Muscle cars from that era weren’t meant for drifting, and Sean’s Monte Carlo could barely make those corners.

Rewatching this film and when the viper rammed the Monte Carlo and I was like the only way you move that is if somethings in the way or you pit maneuverer it but even then it's a heavy ass car.

One of the things i love about this movie is they use his lack of drifting as part of his character progression.
In this race they make sure to point out that hes not good at drifting and the payoff is him learning to drift when he gets to tokyo
