Love to see other people their gear. Always inspiring! Yesterday I received two new pedals to add to the collection: the Retrovibe and the Fuzz Phrase, both from Jam Pedals. Fell in love with them only after playing 30 minutes or so with them. Signal chain is now: Fender american deluxe strat into polytune mini --> dunlop custom audio electronics wah --> keeley compressor plus --> mxr custom shop 90 scrypt phaser --> fuzz phrase --> ehx green muff ---> proco rat --> bd-2 --> mooer phaser and chorus --> retrovibe --> tc flashback delay --> walrus slötva reverb into a marshall dsl40c. Maybe the amp and the guitar aren't perfect for pure gilmour sounds but I get some decent sounds out of it and I love it. Now saving for a second (mild) overdrive like the hi power or the charlie brown and a rotary like the dawner prince or the neo instruments and I'm settled😅
I got the Hot Tubes a few months ago and I use it as an always on barely noticable boost for a clean but better sound. I got a used Crayon because I needed something affordable to use in place of my main drive, an original Caline Orange Burst, because it has a slight hum due to poor grounding on the enclosure. The Hot Tubes pushed by the Crayon is so much hotter than either one on its own it's unbelievable! It makes me nostalgic for 90s psychedelic grunge pop like Brian Jonestown Massacre.
I appreciate the fact that you aren't ripping people to pieces for having cheaper alternatives on their board. Most cheap pedals today are as good sonically as the expensive ones they're copied from... maybe just not as reliable if you're gigging, though.
Hey bro! This was such a great and fun video. I have noise gates to kill sounds in rehearsal when we are not playing. Or..... In some rehearsal studios, there is a lot of ungrounded electricity causing crazy loud sounds with your gain pedals. I rarely if ever use it when I'm playing because of the tone issues you mentioned.
Thanks Musty! The Mythical Overdrive is a klon clone by Rimrock Effects, The blue pedal you didnt know is The Warden, optical compressor by EarthQuaker Devices. Just yesterday I replaces the Triangle with a Lunar Module and the dynacomp with Empress MK2 compressor. Updated pic in Patreon chat.
ow yeah! I guessed it was klon pedal, but wasn't still sure. How are you enjoying it? edit: how's KLON for Gilmour tones btw? Should I get a clone of Klon and try to get Gilmour tones? I always thought of them as close to tube screamer type mid boosted pedals.
@@mustyguitar They are just excellent transparent overdrive/boost. Non coloring your sound. Easy to handle and to add more dynamics to your sound. Very sensitive to clean boost with your volume knob guitar. I use it to make crunch any overdrive/distortion pedals. It is very versatile :D Mine is a sandman from Anasounds, but was a limited edition. More easier to find a "Savage" from Anasounds.
@@mustyguitarLike the comment below they are a great clean booster. Add just a little gain and it does great for Shine or clean Echoes. Add a little more gain gets Pigs pretty good. Stack the powerboost from the Hipower and get a good solo tone. I like leaving it on set clean with my JCM900 for metal, it adds a distinct color to the sound I just love. I cant really describe it, but I hear it. This one I had made for me, I opted to get the switch that selects between silicone or germanium. Its very versitile.
@@adamcampbell3749 I think Josh from JHS said that Klon pedals are only different from mid boosted tube screamer pedals when their gain is over %50 or something. I've even heard him say that nothing in Klon is different if it's clean boost. The circuit inside is changing when the gain is up. I don't know though, I'm just the messenger, never tried even a clone of klon. I was never into it, but I should be I guess :))
I *think* I agree with you on the Mooer chorus. I swapped out my CE-2 for a Tone City Angel Wing (which I'm fairly sure is the same as the Mooer chorus but with a different enclosure) and never looked back. I know it's a "cheap" pedal, but it's so easy to dial in a great tone with it that I don't really care! I see the Pulse is pretty popular as well. I have one, but after hours of fiddling with the knobs I'm still struggling to get the right sounds out of it. It's also noisy as heck. Not sure if it's the pedal or just a skill issue on my part!
My DS 1 and Boss BF2 are a match made in heaven for me trying to simulate David's tone Paired the BF2 kinda takes the away brittle treble and can increase the tone on my DS 1 for early Ehoes live and Pompeii fuzz
@mustyguitar the boonar I would definitely recommend over the catalinbread echorec because it's more accurate to the original unit but the catalinbread one is slightly more affordable it's just depends on which one you can find for a great price but their both great and David Gilmour uses the boonar on his pedal board I would go with the boonar and I love your videos I bought a hi power because I saw your review
If you only could use a pedaltrain nano, and tyou wanted to do Pink Floyd, what would you buy? I would say, get a Keeley Dark Side, follow it with a Boonar, and then a Hi Power. Boom, you are done!
keeley dark side has a great tape delay so instead of boonar, which is probably the best tape delay unit, I'd go for a digital delay for those wall sounds, pulse sounds etc. but rest looks great
I think alot of these peoples pedalboards are copies of yours Musty! You should try a Strymon Deco for sure, they are not cheap but its one of them pedals that just makes everything sound better no matter what you dial into it!
@ well the left side cranked could do the job of a low-medium gain pedal just about, maybe cover the charlie brown etc type stuff…. and the right side could cover phasing/ flanging and chorus but I know it could never replace a phase 90 but maybe could replace the Mooer pedals? You just got to get your hands on one and have a play with it. I would love to see a future video what you make of it.
Quick update: I'd originally replaced the BBE rotary with the Lester K rotary, but two days later, out of nowhere, the Lester K developed a constant, high pitch noise that won't go away. So, the BBE rotary is back on the board. 😞 You mentioned you wanted to know more about it. It's honestly not that great, which is why I was replacing it with the Lester K. It injects too much gain and treble for my liking. I'm now shopping for ANOTHER rotary pedal. Ugh.
Aaah, I see. Can you look for RT-20 or Dawner Prince PULSE? no affiliation but they are closest to Gilmour's yamaha cabinet. Or Strymon Lex for leslie sounds if you're looking for.
So you have a Laney Lionheart?! How do you like it? I’ve been considering getting the Lionheart L5 for a while. How come you don’t use that amp is it too loud?
I do, I have combo 20w amp. I like to use my bedroom amp because I'm mostly aiming for people who play in their bedroom. I want to show that with low wattage bedroom setup you can get great tones too. I have a video planned, comparing 20w vs 1w though, I don't know when I can record that.
@@mustyguitar Most of us can get by with a 5-watt amp and never get close to playing it at full volume (if just playing alone). 5 watts can be pretty loud, too... you'll be loud enough to play with a drummer who isn't smashing the skins (I'm speaking of valve/tube watts).
Have you ever tried the Strymon Lex.. I've heard such good things about it for rotary. I tried the Pulse but if I dialed it in for fast speed, I didn't like the slow and vise versa.. Lex seems promising..

I'M using cheap alternative pedals all the time! they sound amazing!
Yay great video! Thanks for the review, this is super helpful for everyone at any point in there journey for Gilmour
Thank you Chris!

of course, understood! I kill the signal with tuner and there must be something to kill the signal for sure, whether it's volume pedal or whatever.

one problem with small pedals, they look terrible on pedalboards :D about PULSE, noise is confusing, I never encountered that, can't say anything...
Now I know where all the Boss RT-20s have gone! Can’t find one anywhere! Everyone has such great looking boards :)

I did. It's a great leslie unit. PERFECT for Gilmour's pre-animals stuff. But still, there's no mix knob on it. I don't own one but I really want one.
What are these colored caps im seeing on the stomp switches on some of these boards?
probably to stomp on them easier.
nice comments musty i love you hahahah
