I lived in Yakima, WA for about 6 months or so and returned there many times because my father was living there. EXTREMELY hot in the summer, VERY cold in the winter (with a lot of snow that comes early, occasionally even as early as October), and the air is super dry too. Because of how dry the air was, I would frequently get bloody noses out of nowhere -- and these were not just small bloody noses. Yakima is also a bit poor, depressing, boring, violent, and overall is not a fun place to live. There's nothing to do. Everybody is so angry and sad. There's nothing to do and everything is just a desert -- you're many many miles off from many things. Would not recommend Yakima, WA as a place to stay.
Olympia is also quite well-priced compared to other cities, especially given its size. That said, all of WA is quite expensive and so despite making a little bit more money, you will still find it more difficult to have as much by the end of paying the bills since the cost of living here is just so high -- but the pay has not caught up.
The other BIG problem is that the City of Olympia gives millions in tax exemptions to developers of rich luxury housing and that means that less rich people are paying higher taxes to enable this giveaway. Our politicians give away billions in tax exemptions on the state level too. The homelessness has increased also due to the erosion of mobile home parks that have disappeared and been replaced by expensive luxury apartments. I have lived in Thurston County since 1990 and fought many City of Olympia "policies" where the politicans do not represent poor and middle income people very well. Otherwise, this video is pretty accurate.
lived in Lacey since I was 10 and there was barely 10k people. Loved Washington until these last couple of years. Never been more ready to leave this place.
I feel the same way. Too many laws and regulations in this state. I really like to camp, hike, shoot, and hunt but it's so hard to go anywhere in WA without being bothered by others
@@johnny333X2 I agree. Back then there was barely anyone there so traffic didn’t exist. Speed limit was 50mph. People were nicer and looked after one another since it was such a tiny town. I noticed the last few years there were so many people from TX and CA moving there. The town got trashed. Crimes increased significantly. I got depressed and moved right when covid started. WA used to be a good place. The place is really only as good as the people in it.

Lived in Seattle, WA for 6 months. I like Seattle but it's too expensive to live in and you can't escape the pay to park bullshit. Also, the homeless have completely overrun the city. At this point, Bellevue, WA has become the new Seattle, but it's too expensive to live there as well. Your only other options are to head outwards from the city, which is precisely where all the impoverished individuals from Seattle and Bellevue have migrated (due to the high cost of living there). That's precisely where I was as well for 8 months, quite recently -- in a city known as Renton, WA. Renton was just like a smaller version of Seattle but without the skyscrapers and a little bit less homeless, but just as much crime if not more. Crazy shit happens all the time in Renton (~20 minutes below Seattle and Bellevue). I never felt safe in that city and I lived in a somewhat sketchy area. But there's hardly a place that isn't sketchy in that city. Besides Renton, can go ~30 minutes down South to Kent, which is a much nicer area in my opinion (albeit I have not lived there), but crime is still a big problem there -- mostly thievery and petty things. Go another ~15 minutes South or so and you're in Auburn. This place is even worse than Renton. Stay out of here. This is where a lot of gangs are right now.

Olympia's downtown is crime ridden, tons of property crime going on about 24/7. The rain is easy to adjust and deal with like the video states but the crime is just dreadful. Imagine smalls businesses price hiking to make up for just vandalism and random theft. I saw it on the daily. Government jobs are great if you can land one. There is a great grittiness to the city in the past too, the marina and all the parks but now there just trash heaps everywhere. Homeless do as they please with not a lot of city support or mental health action. Drugs are so rampant that most places you got to watch for needles. This is a quality guy from the suburbs. Good information tho.
Florida homelessness is nowhere near as bad as any of the states on the west coast of America. We get so many people moving to florida fleeing the homeless problem.
Our climate is ever temperate and that draws in people. I can’t imagine homeless people surviving the summers in Florida. I’ve spent many summers in the sunshine state and it’s unbearable in the summer. Personally I would never live in Florida for many reasons.
@@livinginolympiawa Thankfully enrollment at Evergreen is way down. That area where you are filming down by the marina is OK. We like the Bud Bay Cafe. But even there you have to keep your eyes open. I don't recommend the Oyster House because they treat their employees poorly.
It seems that there are still some counties and smaller towns that are still west of the cascades that are more red or at least closer to a 50/50 split in terms of the way the people who live there vote. Eastern WA weather is just too hot or too cold so even though I’d probably like the culture there better than the western side, I’d still take the better moderate weather over that.
