If I had a nickel for every time Corvo was betrayed and dishonored by his trusted allies, I'd have 2 nickels... which isn't a lot but it's weird it happened twice
When I first played this, in a blind playthrough fortunately enough, I genuinely thought assassins were going to attack or something when those sound effects came and the screen was acting weird. I was legit out with blink and my sword, checking outside and stuff, but then I went to Corvo's room and I was surprised to the betrayal. Snakes
Something of note if you were a monster, a killer, who just slaughtered those in your path Samual will still help you but say this is what we deserve. Samual judges you and in fact the game judges you not by how good or evil you are, but by how much you value the lives of those around you. If you are a monster the world will reflect this with the plague getting worse, the city crumbling, and countless atrocities committed. But if you value life, only kill your targets, show you are a selfless and caring man, the world will also reflect this. Spoilers ahead. This all culiminates in the final level. Your betrayers fates will be different depending on your actions throughout the game. If you are monster as I said and just killed everyone in your path, or made the worst possible choices, then the final island will be heavily guarded, a storm will be about, lighting will flash and lights will be everywhere and bright, all which make stealth rather difficult. Our last targets are the main three who betrayed us, the rest of the loyalists were killed by them as they were useless now and knew too much. But because of our actions and the actions they took they no longer trust each other. They have all brought their guards to protect against each other, there is a lot of things you have to get past, to take out your targets. When you have to save Emily Havelock will take her hostage and you have to act fast to save her. But whether or not you save her the city and all falls because the plague takes over, and if Emily lives she also has been watching you. Another Spoiler if you either never played the second game or never learned it in the first somehow but Emily is Corvo's daughter. A secret love child and while there were questions as to who the father was the events of the game make the question overshadowed. But back to the point Emily learned all Corvo did throughout the game and emulates her father. She becomes a merciliess ruler, all kinds of atrocities happen, and the city falls and almost all die along with her. And as a last insult to Corvo and the player Samuel will say he is disappointed in you in the final level as he takes you there. He hates that you showed no care for human life and to rub salt in the wound he will fire off a shot into the air and then leave, which alerts the island more. But on low chaos, when you show you value life then the situation is different. The sun is shining, the waters calm, there are basically no guards on the island. Samuel praises you for being a good man. The shining sun actually helps you, dark shadows are cast and with few guards it is a cakewalk. We learn Havelock killed the other two betrayers but when you confront him, and don't try to kill him immediately, he shows regret for it all. Saying he wished he could be a good man like you and laments it all. He offers you the key to Emily's room and then it ends when you get her. The kingdom thrives, you remain as her guide and protector, a golden age as she follows your example. She values human life. On another note if you are at a midpoint of chaos the game goes exactly as high choas ending and level, with the main difference being Samuel. He still berates you but doesn't fire a shot into the air.
I took a bunch of edibles before playing this part. I was interacting with everyone in the lobby because I noticed Emily drawing herself with a knife and bodies. I was playing mid level chaos I think, so I was talking to everyone and when I started getting hit by the poison, I wasn’t sure if i was tripping lol. It was a pretty poignant scene because I didn’t know I was poisoned at first. I thought corvo was just reacting negatively to the environment around himself. NGL I did not see the betrayal coming. Super trippy scene when on edibles lol.
So why does Samuel do this? Instead of telling Corvo about the poison? And why on Earth does he send us to the Flooded District instead of taking Corvo with him?
ikr, all he needed to do was scream ''corvo its a trap theyre going to kill you and use emily to rule the empire'' corvo could have killed every single one of them in a second
@@selimovskiuryeı so thinking about it I guess what he’s mostly worried about is protecting Emily and maybe also the servants. It’s not implausible that shortly outside are a bunch of city watch officers. But that said, I don’t get why we can’t just go with him

There's three, actually.
Samuels a bro
The best. It’s great storytelling.
Not on high chaos 🤣
They’ll pay the price for their Betrayal!
