    so why we are using cloudways if it is that easy ? what I can't do if I hosted my website without cloudways ?

    • @IdeaSpot
      @IdeaSpot  4 роки тому +3

      I think the main reasons: Cloudways won’t limit the number of domains you can build, but the free version of plesk is limited to 3 domains.
      2) cloudways runs the panel for you and does the server updates and maintenance for you, they will also give you support for using the panel. Vultr support is only server related, you need to manage your panel and apps by yourself (but we saw it’s not really too hard 😅)

      @@IdeaSpot i saw your video and I think it is so easy for me, my problem is I'm trying to make an e-commerce website but every time I search on youtube I hear that it is impossible to be able to manage the server yourself and if you don't use cloudways for hosting and you do it by yourself you may die and lose everything
      if I can
      _connect CDN
      _SSL
      _manage domains
      _update Wordpress and plugins
      what else a human may need for Wordpress website ?
      you said { you need to manage your panel and apps by yourself } sorry I'm noob but what apps ?

    • @IdeaSpot
      @IdeaSpot  4 роки тому +1

      @@mohmedl-oubeid9976 WordPress is the app we work with here :D - but you can run lots of other things on plesk too of course.
      I think some people have tried VPS but struggled, because in the past you needed to enter a few linux commands into the terminal to set things up (but the way I show here didn't need to do any terminal commands) - Cloudways panel is good, but Plesk is good too and very popular too, as with Cpanel. Anyway, this video method is free to test, so its worth trying - if you're worried about losing things make sure you learn and test the backup system, it's not too hard :D

    • @IdeaSpot
      @IdeaSpot  4 роки тому +2

      Hi, great question!
      You can totally use the WordPress installer directly, they even have a guide right here:
      www.vultr.com/docs/one-click-wordpress/
      You'll notice that this method uses a few linux commands that you need to enter from a terminal command prompt - I know a lot of people might find that a bit intimidating.
      So using Plesk we were able to set up the server, as well as manage our updates, security and backups all from a nice graphical control panel, which new people might find a little more friendly.
      Anyway - definitely try both and see what you prefer - we basically get 30 days to make whatever servers we want for free so its a nice way to learn!

    • @IdeaSpot
      @IdeaSpot  4 роки тому +4

      Three domains for free & no limit on subdomains.
      You can run an email server on plesk but running an email server can consume a lot more resources than a website. Always Use google or Microsoft for any serious mailboxes, and if you just need a bunch of budget email boxes try something like mxroute or mailcheap.
      Zoho is a solid free option which I’ve done a tutorial on recently.
      Don’t use web hosting for email - it can be a bit of a mess if you ever need to change hosting.

    Please compare this to AWS light sail. In addition, I really need to know what size of compute is needed based on the amount of traffic that you get on a daily basis. Say if you have a website that requires members to sign in and out etc We can put content on CDNs so we don't have to worry about that for the images, video js and CSS etc . So what basic website instance capacity is needed to run a site based on traffic keeping the use of a cdn in mind.

      @@IdeaSpot thanks
      For the reply I'm using cloudflare to stream the video on my site. And cloudfront for images and css and Js. I have visitors from all over the world so even though my traffic is low I'm always thinking about delivering the assets from a local cache whilst keeping the actual server close to home. Have you done anything on load balancing a word press site? Between instances geographically, and using CDNs for content delivery?I wish I found you years ago. This is definitely a stop in my devops journey. And let me add one more thing, since mobile is so important, the ability to add a site icon to the home screen as well as demystifying the set up of the mobile app templates selling on theme forest on a vps would be cool. I always wondered what the inside story and advantages of getting what we have learned and done over to these react based packages means for us as starting webdevs. Again thanks so much for everything you are doing. It really helps!

    • @IdeaSpot
      @IdeaSpot  3 роки тому +1

      Hi the server caching used in this video is only for a few seconds, so you won't need to manually purge it - there is some info here: docs.plesk.com/en-US/obsidian/customer-guide/websites-and-domains/hosting-settings/web-server-settings/apache-and-nginx-settings.72320/
      It's designed to help the server perform better under heavy load, like when multiple users are concurrently accessing the site.
      You maybe thinking of page caching, which you can add with a plugin like W3 total cache, rocket, super cache etc - these usually have options for how/when you want to do the purge. Some more info on difference caching here:

    CloudWays says that they have certain optimisations making their option faster, but could you make a video to test it out?

    I was wondering what the difference would be in terms of performance between Cloudways (with HF Vultr) and HF Vultr. Cloudways costs almost twice as much as Vultr. I know that Cloudways offers several features, in addition to the hosting configuration, but considering only the speed of the server, what is the difference between them?

    • @IdeaSpot
      @IdeaSpot  4 роки тому +3

      Hi, you won’t see any notable difference in load time on either, it’s the same infrastructure. There are some software differences, cloudways using Apache and redis, and the plesk method I show uses ngnix fastCGI - they’ll have small differences depending on the exact application. Give the 30 trial a test and see if you like it

    Hi Alex. I followed your tutorial and my new Wordpress site is FAST. Thank you!! Transferring my nameservers from VentraIP to Cloudflare has disabled my email. I'd like to keep my site hosting and email separated. Is this best done by getting my email back up and running with VentrIP by adding their A, MX and TXT records to Cloudflare? Would I need to change/remove the existing (two) A and (one) CNAME records that I setup during your tutorial? Is it okay to disable email in Plesk? Thanks for any advice!

    • @IdeaSpot
      @IdeaSpot  3 роки тому +1

      @5:54 cloudflare will pick up the existing DNS records, including the ventra IP mail records - you can leave those as they are
      The only ones you need to change for the webserver on vultr are two at 11:13
      1) A record - to point the vultr IP to the root of your domain
      2) CNAME to point www to your domain
      You can disable mail on plesk:
      Websites & Domains > Mail > Mail Settings
      Untick: "Activate mail service on this domain "

      @@IdeaSpot Works perfectly. Thank you again Alex. So, the webmail A record you added at 11:08 can be deleted? Also, just a side note, I changed the A record from proxied to DNS only to get rid of a warning message (about revealing the IP???) for the MX record. Is that okay to do? Lastly, in Plesk, in Hosting & DNS under DNS Settings there is a red message stating 'Domain is not resolvable'. There is also a green message box asking, 'Do you want to connect mysite.com.au to Plesk automatically? Connect using Domain Connect.' .... and a yellow message box 'Your website is offline because its domain name does not resolve to the server IP address.
      To put your website online, update DNS settings on the side of your domain registrar or external DNS provider. Your website will be up and running once DNS changes come into effect. It may take up to 24 hours.' Not sure what this is about as my website is up and running!

    ✳✳2022 Update ✳✳things look a little different due to a few interface design changes in plesk)
    Since cloudflare protects your IP, You'll probably see this warning, (dont worry about it)
    snipboard.io/dR0Es9.jpg
    click manage here when adding your SSL:
    snipboard.io/JzkOHX.jpg
    Then add your cert:
    snipboard.io/iJnlhW.jpg
    Cloudflare will give you a crt and key here (use defaults > create):
    snipboard.io/fYX9cD.jpg
    CA certificate for cloudflare is here:
    developers.cloudflare.com/ssl/origin-configuration/origin-ca/#4-required-for-some-add-cloudflare-origin-ca-root-certificates
    Use the "Cloudflare Origin RSA PEM" download it, open in a notepad and paste into plesk
    Make sure you paste each section into the right box on plesk! (1. key, 2. cert, 3. CA cert)
    snipboard.io/liDPwt.jpg
    You can also use the cert to secure your mail and webmail subdomains:
    snipboard.io/h6eyIL.jpg
    now continue the tutorial as normal from @9:50:
    ua-cam.com/video/7vUl16bdW8Q/v-deo.html
    Again, dont worry about 'domain is not resolvable' warnings in plesk, this is just because cloudflare protects your IP and keeps it private.
    PHP Upload Size:
    Tip: You can increase the max upload size in WordPress in the PHP settings as shown here:
    ideaspot.com.au/blog/vultr-vps/#maxfilesize
    This will help if you need to load larger plugins, themes or other files.

      Pretty much, the only thing missing in the free version is staging sites - though you can use the web preview feature to check new sites before pointing the domain.
      One thing that is nicer is the file manager and backup in plesk I actually prefer compared to cloudways. Plesk can also do email, but I still prefer a separate service rather than running email on the website server.
