Not that quite. The USSR imploded and then the early Russian federation was all over the news in the 90s with Yeltsin parading all over the world drunk as a skunk and they were selling weapons and gear fo the point they briefly made Pepsi one of the world largest navies by trading them soda for war ships. Then there were the 2 Chechen wars when they tried to reestablish control of their remaining non Russian states. Then in the 2000s they had a war in Georgia which helped shore up their control in central Asia. Now the war in Ukraine and their involvement in Syria. Russia rebuilding their power has been happening since they reformed into a federation in the 90s and has been pretty steady and overt, they just only recently started stepping foot outside their neighbors or throwing their weight around on the world stage like in the good old soviet days

Look at the dangerous behavior of Chinese investors in the face of Washington’s anti-Russian economic restrictions. Look at the agreement of China on trade-offs with the United States.
Look at the unequal attitude of the United States to trade with China and Russia. The United States is coming up with new reasons for trade restrictions to fight the Russian economy and steadily increasing trade with China at the same time as political tensions increase. There is no military alliance between China and Russia. On what basis can your wishes be realized?
If the USA and China demonstrate to the whole world a foreign policy based solely on economic pragmatism, then why should Russia demonstrate political romanticism in relation to at least some country?

I was quite surprised recently reading an article on Russia's military spending using purchasing power parity rather than rubles converting into USDs. Using PPP, I was shocked to see Russia is just behind the U.S.A. in their military procurement, and not by that much (i.e. many Russian systems cost very little in USDs as they are all paid for in rubles, coupled with the fact that many new Russian weapons are produced or at least designed by Russian gov't owned bureaus, rather than independent contractors as in the U.S.), so it would be interesting to see a head-to-head match-up using PPP rather than just straight currency (there are no metaphorical $200 hammers being purchased in Russia, or things like laundry services being contracted out at inflated costs).
The hypersonic air, ground, and anti-shipping missiles on the horizon in Russia as well as the S-500 antiaircraft system in particular are frightening. Like China, Russia's A2/AD systems seem much more advanced than comparable American systems already. A swarm of existing supersonic either Russian or Chinese anti-shipping missiles fired en masse at an American carrier is an attack against which the carrier would be defenseless (which already is limiting where carrier will and will not operate, like a carrier not wanting to enter the Gulf of Oman right now with the tensions with Iran). A floating airbase that can go anywhere in the world will always be too worthwhile a system for the Americans to not develop countermeasures against, but for the time being, they appear to be sitting ducks.
So, again, I'd highly recommend anyone interested in Russia's vs. America's military systems procurement and development in terms of purchasing power parity rather than using un-adjusted currencies, because just using straight currency conversions only tells a small part of the story it seems. I'm a leftie politically, but one thing that I don't agree with as a truism on the left is that the U.S. spends too much on their military, but in reality they are spending not much more than their main adversary, Russia, especially vis-a-vis new technology and next generation systems in all areas (the Abrams for example is getting long in the tooth as far as the most current MBTs under development... the T-14 project, whatever one may thing of it, was the main impetus for France and Germany to get together to talk about developing a next-gen MBT together to replace the LeClercs and Leopard 2 variants), and America really when watching deployments around the world really seems like they could use another Carrier Strike Group (there are just so many potential flash-points heating up, that their current carriers can't be in all places at once). The one thing I agree with with the GOP is that military spending needs to outmatch in PPP terms major rivals like Russia and China based not on overall dollars spent, but what kind of inventory of systems, and how effective they are at the end of the day. That's really the important measurement at the end of the day.

Russia’s investment in hypersonic technology is just one technological pathway. It’s already been done before, it’s just a new development. Really? I'm not saying your wrong, but this tells a more interesting story. Serious questions must be asked.
How hard is it to drive a Russian Tank? Do crews get no, or just poor, training? Was there no rehearsals for this? Why not use the crews who tested the T-14 in the first place instead off a novice? Who is the incompetent making poor decisions for the Armies big show of the year? etc. etc.
This is worse than a mechanical break down. It suggests a breakdown of competency within the Human Systems within areas of the Army.
And yes - for balance - lately the US Navy has also discovered problems with ships crew training. They kept getting rammed by civilian ships.
It does not matter what Kit any Military has, Training, Training, and more Training is the key to success.
For instance, during the Falklands war a Argentine Sub fired off several Torp's at Royal Navy ships, but while there was suspected hits, none detonated. A enquiry found that the crews had not armed the Torpedoes correctly. Poor training has cost a lot of lives and battles. Mix in arrogance and pride in to the recipe and Wars can be lost as well.
If they cant get crews to drive in a straight line without putting the Parking brake on during a parade, then what next? Boy racers rolling tanks at high speed? Or perhaps a attack helicopter crew accidentally firing rockets on observers....... Worryingly, for the Russians, these things happened as well. Competency is a very valuable resource. Little things like this can suggest BIG systemic problems.

To me it doesn't sound like he was trained in this vehicle at all.... _"Thats your tank over there. Its new. Dont crash it"_

How does Russia do it? its said to have the 7th biggest military budget, yet its second only to the USA in military global dominance. That is impressive, this goes to show the power of knowledge. Russia has a space program both military an civilian, has the second most powerful navy in the world, the second largest and deadliest Air force and also has the largest artillery in the world and on top of that is fully operational, how is it that they do it? Very impressive, its a shame the west has and spends so much money and it lacks behind Russia, and for all we know Russia could crush most if not all of them in a conflict, very interesting

Asymmetry? Combined arms warfare with adaptable and responsive strategy, tactics and firepower is better.
Asymmetric is utilised by those with constrained resources. Useful but It’s not a guarantee in a unfair fight. Which is the USA’s intent.

@@rollingthunder8630 LoL , it's not that simple. Please before making these ignorant comments do your research first. If you had done that you would know that an ASM cannot sink an AC just like that. The AC has multiple defense systems to counter all threats. Also the AC does not operate alone. It operates as part of a fleet made up of all kind of ships and submarines. Said fleet has all means to detect and counter threats to the AC (including ASMs) over a very large radius. Also I don't think you have any idea what asymmetric warfare is.

Of course, not only one ASM will be used, a dozen will be launched in a mass saturation attack which can't be stopped by any carrier strike group. Sure it'll cost a lot but will work well when AC is sunk. Take a hint from your buddy above, the only way the US can stop hypersonic missile is by laser weaponry but that's new technology that hasn't been tested well yet.
