Excellent explanation of blocking in three colors to create the basic skin color. So far your explanation of painting dark skin has been the easiest for me to understand. Love the realism of your portrait.
You are a GODsend. Thank you so much for your generosity in giving this lesson on how to paint dark skin tones, & explaining & demonstrating so clearly. I need this so much. ❤️🙏🏽😁
Thank you so much for this video. As a beginner portrait artist this video is invaluable. I’ve watched so many other artists that don’t convey the same knowledge with such ease. Definitely a new subscriber! ❤
Thank you for this, exactly what I needed to see to get me to push past that chaos stage (when everything is so rough) and to take the time (and patience) and layer
First: WOW! Then, SO MANY GREAT TIPS! THANK YOU! I really needed this video right now. I'm painting the biggest canvas I've ever worked (3'x4'), painting my first portrait, and painting gorgeous black skin. I don't do things in 1/2 measures apparently. LOL. Thanks again for this impressive video. New subscriber!
Thanks for this. Really helped me, especially with regard to the right stages at colour blocking and then the blending approach. I am a newbie with working on skin as I tend to do landscapes/furry animals. Still some similar principles but I've always been nervous about portraits. Thanks again for sharing. Lovely relaxing teaching approach. Very relaxing music.
Thank you so much! I can watercolor portrait all day but acrylic was just foreign to me. You’re the first person who really broke it down to me in a way that made sense!
Thank you so much! Watching you paint is an experience! I am learning to paint and my people kept coming out too yellow, too orange. I would never have thought to add blue. :)
I really enjoyed this tutorial. I've never had to paint dark skin tones before and Christa made it look fairly easy. I will get a chance to practice with a portrait of my youngest grandchild.
Thank you!! My friends with brown skin want me to do more work that looks like them and I keep messing it up when I start adding in the highlights, ultimately changing the whole look. This was SO helpful!
This is a really helpful tutorial. Thank you. Easy to follow with enough structure for us to understand which steps to take and consider. The video showed the messy process and the end goal which helps so that when I try and it looks messy, I dont quickly discard it but keep going until the end / desired results starts to emerge.
Great advice, I always have trouble with skin tones in acrylic. I especially love how you explain how to use a black and white photo to see where the darks and lights are. New friend for your channel, appreciate you sharing your knowledge. Let's stay connected in the name of art. Cheers
Thank you so much. From the bottom of my heart. Your actually teaching me how to do the skin tones. Im just so grateful. Thank you again. New suby for life.🤩
Hello! I just found your page and found it so helpful. I recently started dabbling with painting and am wanting to get better with painting the depths and warmth of skin. Are you planning more paint along sessions soon?
This is really lovely, thank you for all the instructions and tips! How is it you keep the highlights from looking chalky? It looks so glowy and natural
I'm having trouble getting all the beautiful tones of dark skin to show in a tiny portrait I'm working on. The whole figure is only about 5 inches tall and she is somewhat back lit. I can do a larger portrait fine, but reducing the scale and keeping the values in the right places is stumping me.
FINALLY A BLACK ARTIST!!
Thank you for taking the time to elaborate on the medium-dark skin tones I feel like the representation is limited and I appreciate this!
I see it's the patience that I'm missing in order to achieve a successful look. This looks so beautiful!
Wow. Absolutely what I needed. I am super juiced for the next project. This is exactly what the Dr. ordered.
You are a gift!!! I have watched so many you tube artists who weren't drawing what I needed and you are everything!! Thank you from a new subscriber

Awesome. Exactly what I needed in a simple way. Thank you so much! Christa you totally rock. I have been struggling with dark skin tones
Amazing, lesson on skin tone. . This will take me to the next level of painting
This is encouraging as I move into exploring abstract portrait projects.
This was the MOST helpful video I have seen on realistic skin. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this video. As a beginner portrait artist this video is invaluable. I’ve watched so many other artists that don’t convey the same knowledge with such ease. Definitely a new subscriber! ❤
So incredibly helpful. Thank you for taking the time to do this. You've got an amazing narration voice, by the way!

This is so helpful. I'm working on a shepherd dog with blacks, greys, tans, and whites, and this blocking and layering will really help me.

Hello I also would like to know how you keep paint from becoming chalky? Thank you
Sooooo helpful! Thank you ❤️
Just wanted to say thank you for this teaching video. I wish I could show you my end result. I painted Tiger Woods. Again thank you 😊
Thank you for the video! Did you use something to keep your paint moist? Usually, such a small amount of acrylic dries very quickly.
I might use clear gesso or a glazing medium to keep acrylics alive bit longer
Love your channel 🌷
Great and clear. Thank you so much!
This video is amazing! Thank you for the detailed advice!
Amazing work! Thank you for your precious tips! ❤
