- In part 1 of our series on 'The Miraa'cle Speed' we witnessed the lightening speeds that miraa vehicles clock to deliver their cargo. But how do they safely achieve these speeds considering the vehicles' heavy loads? Are these ordinary vehicles or are they custom-made? And must they be driven at such speeds anyway? Willis Raburu answers this question on the second and final part of 'The Miraa'cle Speed'.

For those asking (and perhaps should have been mentioned on the documentary). Active ingredient of miraa is cathinone (similar effects to amphetamines) which is converted to cathine in a few hours after harvest of the miraa. Refrigeration or not, it will be converted to cathinone - which accounts for the known side effects of miraa including spermatorrhea, delirium, reduced Libido etc.
Hence quite a chuck of why they need fast cars and heavy loads per speed. This is my basic understanding of the khat pharmacology.

its simple miraa drives cary huge load of miraa hence lowering the center of gravity hence the cars become more stable hence its hard for those cars to get into an accident sice they are more stable

By the look of the driver's hairline, I can tell he has achieved speeds not many have on our roads.

Thank you for covering this. It simply means that its the quality of the vehicle that determines the speeds. If PSVs could be serviced in the same manner, they could also keep up with the speeds.

@@joeimagesllc And what does the airflow do? It reduces temperature, would you agree. A refrigerated vehicle might just be better. Or even better have an airstrip in Meru to fly tl Nairobi ama Somalia directly
@@Karanjy I hope ur familiar with meru landscape with regard to airstrips.Refridgeration keeps bacteria away to avoid rotting not keeping stuff fresh.

I have been traveling with Miraa car since I was a kid yet I never saw them using safe belts
They run 80-90 miles..that is the speed every driver in America drives..even grandmas...cool with that "supers speed" bs.
the highways are not as wide or as god as in america as you can see, so 80-90 miles an hour is quite fast.
haha the terrain of meru requires one to be at 50 and below......80 is suicidal
80mph on an American freeway is not equal to the same on a Kenyan road. Roads are much narrower, not well marked, have random potholes, terrain is hilly, and goats may appear around any corner dillydallying like goats do. The average American would drive these roads at 40mph, until they adjust.

You don't understand this aren't you? Somalis and Meru's are interdependent when it comes to Mirra, Actually Somalis started exporting this perishable gold from Meru to all over the world. I'm a Somali and my father was a mirraa driver in the 70'S from Meru to the north even inside Somalia. My point the first mirra drivers were Somalis fact. Sujui some of you mulitoka wapi can you at least learn the history of Kenya, all you saw are the somali immigrants in Eastleigh and think all the Somalis came from Somalia yesterday.

What is the moral of this story? I was hoping you would also tell us about your conversation with the traffic police e.g. are these miraa vehicles governed by different set of traffic rules? If not, what is the government doing to curb this madness? I travel the Nairobi to Kirinyaga route very often. I am yet to see a miraa vehicle stopped by the police.
