I worked as a nanny in benidorm in 1972 , this video brought back so many wonderful memories. Thank you , you have made a pensioner very happy 😂
So glad you enjoyed the film 😊 If I find more classic Benidorm 8mm I will certainly share it here.
a fantastic piece of history.
Fantastic old footage. I visited Benidorm in 1972 aged 11 with my mum. It was my first time abroad. We stayed at the Hotel Bristol Park (now called the Hotel Bristol) which was next to the old town & a short walk from the Levante beach. It was a much smaller (& quieter) place back then, there were large hotels along the front at the Levante beach but the area behind was still undeveloped. I remember the old town was a very safe place for kids as me & my friend who I met in the hotel, would regularly visit a cafe in the old town to have chocolate flavoured milk. This was quite late in the evening but we were completely unsupervised without our parents. But it was safe to do this. Two wee Scottish lads out on the town! I also recall a disco called “Tito’s” quite near the hotel which used an old American car as a publicity prop.
I moved here in 1988, still here 35 years later and never been back to Blighty.Missed nothing, what a lovely country Spain is.
I have lived in Spain almost 4 years, re applying for residencia, no way would I live in the UK again
What's so good about it?.
did you not have any family in the UK, strange you never even went on a visit.
@@gmc9451 The list is too long, but in the last 2 weeks milk went down 25 cents a litre, bread went down 5 cents and my electric bill was 25 euros for 53 days, kids don't walk the streets with foot long knives and there is a shortage of litter in the streets.
@@chrismullan7191 No I do not have family, I left when my mother died in 88 and no reason to return.
3.27 service with a smile....lol, looks lovely
What a brilliant bit of social history I was only back in 1972 but started going to calpe back in 2007, a lovely resort and to see the rock of ifach and the fishing Harbour from then was amazing. I’ve walked up that rock and have many great memories from there, thanks for this video.
So peaceful, and everyone well behaved.
Hi from the US. My first foreign holiday was here back in 1980 with my parents when we lived in the UK. Stayed at the Ariel Park hotel, which I believe is now the Hotel Nereo. Fantastic holiday.
I worked from 1969 till 1972 in discotheque Pipers Club at the Plaza Tringular, Tito´s Club and Borsalino. Very good memories from that time! Especially the Swedish and German girls.
What wonderful footage from Benidorm's old town. You can still see the fishing village it used to be in some of the side streets which had few businesses at the time...
So glad you enjoyed it!
I was last in Benidorm in 1975. I’d still like to visit it again although it’s changed so much. Lovely piece of filming.
So glad you enjoyed it. I've just posted another, shorter film taken mostly on the beach in 1974 - and there will be more Benidorm on the channel in a few weeks.
@@spaintimemachine Excellent, I’ll look forward to watching. I’ve just subscribed!👍🏻
I was there at that time. Still a top place to visit. I have lived permenanatly for over 20 year. Can anyone confirm. A question around this year i thought that in Elch / Dove park when i was around 6 i thought the palms had spider monkeys in. Was this my imagination or was it true.
I went to Benidorm for the first time in 1973 at 7 years of age, great memories. I stayed in the hotel in the video right bye the Church in the small square up on the Rock only 2 weeks ago on a stag do, it certainly isn’t the same but still a good place to be.
That was brilliant I absolutely love benidorm spotted a few places that are still there and in business .
Thank you! Must go back myself, not been for a couple of years.
Amazing vídeo. Thanks/ Gracias por estes recuerdos de baú. Obrigado. Eu ❤ Benid❤rm.
Sooooperb.😎😎😎. Thank you for sharing this. Seriously wonderful.
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed it. 😊
Went to Salou in 1975 on school holiday when I was 14, have a handful of photos as a reminder but this is magical, like your very own time capsule that you can jump into and it takes you back to a moment in your life that's captured forever, thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much! 😊 I may actually have some footage of Salou, it's in my to-be-processed pile... I'll be spending more time on videos later in the Summer.
@@spaintimemachine approx when would the footage of Salou have been shot ?
@@edwardcooper3948 if it's on the reel I'm thinking of, about 1978. Must check. It's one of those w/ several venues spliced together.
@@spaintimemachine 👍
I went salou in the mid 80s, it was more a village up the hill then. I recall all the white paved sea front was there, and a fair at the end. But the main resort, as it is now, was only just being built. Went again in the mid 90s and in that decade the whole resort pop up. Basically looking just like it still does.
Love this.
Not many tattoos or beer bellies then and I’m only talking about the women 😂😂
Much the same can be said of Torremolinos! 😂 Subject of some upcoming footage
Nasty sexist comment
Great footage!
Thanks!
We were at The Don Pacho hotel; I was 18 years old, they put us up at the very top in the far corner 8 of us in two rooms. Loved chasing the room maids around the hotel or they would run out of the room in the mornings because we were naked. LOL Best night remembered was The Western Saloon bar my brother swinging off the wooden chandeliers 38 of us buying rounds and dancing on the wooden benches until the wonderful National Police turned up in white gloves and machine guns......no charges. Last night there I was caught in the lift with the hotels managers wife? Although we had stopped the lift, the staff had managed to over ride the system.. Still go to Benny and rave it up in the Benidorm Cafe until throwing out time or; I'm taking someone back to look at my ceiling?
Remembered playing on the barren landscapes behind the hotels in 1971, stayed in Mont Park Hotel. The builders were rock blasting not far above where we stayed, and remembered a rock flew in the direction of the pool; ran a bit quick into the foyer!
Great video 😁😁👍👍
Thank you! 😊
Hardly any obese people and plenty of smokers. Greatvideo. Was this the start of The British Lager louts that used to give us a bad name.
😁😂
They still do, most foreigners hate the British because of their insular attitudes.
Id like these historic videos. Id live to see one of Salou in thr 80s. We went in the mid 80s and it was basically a village up the hill, went back mid 90s was a huge resort, visted it on the way through about 5 years ago and it looked very similar to the mid 90s, i could actully recall some of the roads 20years later.
So a pre mid 80s video would be excellent if one could be dug up
Thanks for this lovely video.
I was there in 1972 - do you have any pics/info about the Hotel Didak?
Great memories
👏🎬
Glad you enjoyed 😊 Don't know about that hotel specifically but it may turn up in a future video, I've loads more from different places, some not yet identified.
Wow I was 16 then
Oh. If only we cou l d turn back th clock,
Yes indeed!
That would be heaven.
Went there on holiday about the same time and didn't want to go home but mum said at 9 I was too young to make that descision.
And not a mobile phone in sight
Surprisingly they didn't have them in 1975
@@michelles2299 no shit
The era of the German tourists, if you believed what comedians said, lol.
I’d love to leave as well.
We were there that year ,with a party of policemen from harrow road police station great times drank loads of cheap wine ended up in bed for so days. !! 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🏴🏴
People seemed to be much better dressed in 1975
That is a constant in nearly all the old films I have. Wait till you see some of the other footage I have lined up.
Ve vill got the best sunbeds ja ja .........
Yeah those were the days 49 quid a week, coming home with your souvenir donkey stuffed with old jam rags.......................nothings changed 51 years later.
Full of albainians now😢
Pre pisshead days😂😂❤
Nothing has changed then.
