hi rob Arnold trying to learn from beyond the grave and year of the snake would be great to see some lessons on them in the future thanks awesome channel great content keep it up man!
Right on Luke!
That's a beautiful guitar, Rob!! Would love to hear some new Chimaira or Elite recorded on a drop A, 7 again. Listened to Pass Out recently and still love it. Let Go, Severed, Lumps, Forced Life are such bangers!!
I've got a tune called Brontosaurus on my upcoming solo record that I wrote and recorded with this 7 string in drop A. Stay tuned!
This is actually my favorite of your guitars, its closest to my own personal taste, Horizon plus 7 string plus one hum is such a sick combo
also the floyd, my favorite trem since i grew up on them
Beautiful guitar man
Thanks Josh!
OMG finally! Saw this guitar for the very first time when you guys played in a small venue in Ghent Belgium with Spineshank back in 2003 I think. The guitar was just standing there, don't think you even used it for the gig. But been intrigued by this guitar ever since. Thanks for making a dedicated video for this one.
Dude that's awesome! For some reason, that first Ghent Belgium show is one that has always stood out in my mind! I'm glad you were there! 🤘
Ghent Djent ❤
She's beautiful 😍 binding just makes everything pop. Thanks for taking us on this journey.
Right on Rich!
Rob has done it again 👏 like always. Making kick ass videos that help me in many ways with my guitar playing and my mental health. When things get crazy for me I turn to watching your videos with my guitar in hand. Really enjoy this video with you 7 string. I was waiting for you to do one with your RA-1. Thanks again for everything dude.
Thanks for always tuning in brother, and I'm happy to be here to help!👊
Yes! I’m the same exact way! Rob is my therapist! 🤘🏼
@@petepetrich7828 👊😎
The “Strings are changed bro!” Break instead of the usual lyrics made me laugh hard. Thanks Rob! As an ESP guy myself I can really appreciate your custom 7 string.
Haha awesome Joe! 👊
AWESOME GUITAR Rob!!! Love it!!! Love your videos, keep up the great work!!!🤘🎸
🙏Thank you sir!
I remember being told tremolo backplates are sometimes not recessed because the body of the guitar is not thick enough to leave space between the plate and the tremolo hardware.
That certainly could be the case!
Always a pleasure to see these gorgeous guitars on the bench! Coffee with Ola in the future, perhaps? 😁
Ola and I spoke briefly about that back when I first released Everything You Love ep.01. It's going have to wait until I'm in Sweden again!
@@RobArnoldWorld can't wait! Ola really has a knack for picking the brains of fellow guitar players.
Great video as always Rob. I worked at ESP from 2003-2006. One of the techs had an LTD 7 string that I believe was yours that you sent in because of a broken headstock. It had the see thru finish in blue if I remember correctly. They sent you a new guitar. Is this the one that replaced it and I was wondering if you recall the story on how the headstock got broken. Thanks for all these great videos.
Awesome Troy! It was see thru green! An MH-307. I'm pretty sure that one night, Matt and I had an on stage, head-on-collision, where we both broke our headstocks in one foul swoop. I'm pretty sure I still may have it! I appreciate you tuning in!
I probably say this in all your axe showcases, but man...I would happily pay for production versions of basically all your customs! I absolutely love this one. Single pickup 7 string horizon with that top? Just take my money, man!
Haha yeah man I wish!! Who knows though... maybe one day!
Great guitar Rob!!! I play esp guitars also!!! I LOVE them!!! I wouldn't mind adding this to my collection I got going.
That's a beauty Rob!
Love these videos Rob! Love getting the behind the scenes look at your gear and and your repairs. Better than just here’s my guitar for 7 strings tuning, drop C, etc. No other artist gives such an in depth look at their gear. Keep up the great work! By the way, I’ve said this in previous posts but Impossibility of Reason and Self Titled are among the top metal albums of all time. Such dynamic song writing and solid albums through and through. All thrillers, no fillers!! Keep it metal my man!! 🤘🏻🎸🎸🤘🏻
I really appreciate all that Steve! Thanks for always tuning in, and I can't wait for you to hear my upcoming solo album!
Yeah, I agree, therapeutic..., love it, Rob!!! I'm still waiting on my H-1000 EverTune pre-order, and your EverTune vid will surely be an asset.
Awesome bro! Keep us posted!
Sometimes I’ve noticed spacers underneath the nut. Usually a piece of slim cardboard of some kind. Also, I put a cheap air compressor underneath my bench. I had noticed way too many clients coming in to record, and they haven’t changed their strings/drumheads, equipment looks like it was on tour, etc. I get a lot of use out of the compressor to say the least. Now I just do most of the setups for them, work it into the recording cost. Sick guitar btw!
That's a great idea with the air compressor! I'd love to have one near my workbenches.
Keeping all that hardware paid off. That's one mean guitar and that tiny Amp 🤘😀
🤘😉
There's definitely something so satisfying about these videos. Just want to say thanks for putting these together dude, following your videos I've managed to set my PRS up so it plays smooth as butter now. Other than changing your pick ups have you ever made any other major modifications to a guitar?
Glad to hear that Scotty! No I don't think I've done any major modifications.
Rob, love your attention to detail and how organized you are..another killer video.
Thanks bro! 👊
Can you do a video on how ESP made your guitars? Like how did designing it go about and what exactly you wanted it to be.
Yes I can! Working on it now, and you can expect to see it Sunday! Thanks for the inspiration!
This was quite therapeutic 😄 That’s a gorgeus looking axe! 🤘🏻
🤘
Hands down, my favorite upload on this channel.
A total Bob Ross vibe. It was really pleasant.
Keep it up Rob!
Thanks dude!👨🏻🎨🎸
I think pickup most probably is an 81-7 due to silver logo. 707s have the gold one. Needless to say, nice video and beautiful guitar!!
I think you're right Bill!
Damn that is one solid guitar. Love the finish and the aged binding
Wow! Super thin horizon. Esp can do anything!
Very nice 💯🎸
Would really be cool to get a video on fascination street. A little story on how it came to be and a playtrough
Your awesome your content is invaluable thank you Rob for all you contributions outside of being the guitarist for the most brutal metal. Bands on the planet.
👊
I love these kind of videos, so chill yet informative. I picked up a cheap Ibanez from a local pawn shop as a mod project a few days back, gonna check out some of your pickup and hardware videos for inspiration!
Love to hear that man!🙌
Gorgeous guitar Robb! Hope you’re doing well! 🤘🏻

Wow. Beautiful guitar. 👍 appreciate you and your channel.
Always happy to see a Rob Arnold video 😃
I know you put a lot of care into these videos and it shows.

It's always a pleasure reading your comments Todd! 👊😎
lol @21:05 Love your videos. Always relaxing and help with my anxiety. Thanks 👍
Haha👊
Well Rob nice video. So many things to do before you changed the strings. With a 7 seven does it matter if you use two different brands of strings ? and does it also give the guitar a different feel with your play it ? By the way it's my birthday today.
Dude! Happy birthday!! 👍
Hey Happy bday Darren!🙌
With the strings, I haven't noticed any issues with using a different brand for the 7th string. And there's no difference in feel or anything like that. It's all good!👌
love that axe, really beauty
keep it up
Just found this channel, and really enjoyed the content! Subscribed
Welcome aboard!🤘
This present darkness!
So sad I lost that CD, years ago. I was a freshman in high school, just getting into metal. And that was one of my first ever metal albums.
So sick to see you with this guitar from that time.
Awesome dude!🤘
Really cool guitar ! Rad video Rob!
🤘
I have always loved that guitar, 🔥🔥🔥💪🤘🔥🔥🔥
same gauge on your viper baritones you guys used back then too ?
Yessir! Although I believe in the early years we were using 11-56 packs, with the additional .60 for drop A tuning.
I’m 99% sure that teal Ibanez was an S7420. Those are fairly sought after these days. Still got it? Absolutely love the ESP, I’ve been drooling over that on the ESP custom forum for at least 15 years. One thing, and I think I’ve mentioned this on a past video you’ve posted, every now and then you should really take all the strings and bridge off and polish the frets. You can use 0000 steel wool, Stew Mac has fret erasers, or you can even use an automotive chrome polish. Unless you have stainless frets, which didn’t become common til a couple years ago, the nickel oxidizes from sweat and moisture in the air. It makes a big difference on bends, especially with the unwound strings. That’s why brand new guitars always feel so smooth to play. It’s a bitch to do it, but totally worth it. Actually, as I’m watching the way you block the bridge you wouldn’t even have to take off the bridge. Try it out if you’re ever bored. It will totally 🤯. Hope all is well Rob, thanks for all the great content.
It' really only occurred to me recently that I should probably seek out a proper fret dressing.
No frets on any of my guitars have ever been worked on, and so they're probably due!
@@RobArnoldWorld Wow man, that’s kinda wild. I’ll bet your axes all have some miles on them, but that just shows you how stout ESPs are. Do you rotate through your collection a lot or do you have a favorite you usually stick with?
@@mcoon1987 I would say I generally use the same two or three for whatever I'm doing. And then once in awhile I need a "special tool" for a job, like a 7 string, or a guitar with an Evertune, or a guitar in E, etc. I'm a creature of habit, so when I get one that's feeling good, I'll generally stick with it until it's not!
Nice guitar man,..definitely be checking out your new solo stuff when it comes out🤘🏻👊🏼
🤘😎
Lol the background music got me dying over here 😂
Thats sick!
She's gorgeous!
It is very interesting to hear SP LIT through a little amp like that lol
sweet video
Another awesome maintenance vid Rob! Any idea on a release date for the new solo record? Look forward to that man 😊
I plan for it to arrive later this year!
@@RobArnoldWorld that’s awesome!! Can’t wait!
Those are some low string hole posts on the headstock. What is the purpose of those? I'm guessing to get the strings at a tighter angle, so that they sit in the floyd locking nut more evenly? I have a couple floyd guitars where the strings do not sit evenly on the locking nut, and it causes them to go flat when I tighten the clamps.
They are! I didn't really notice until dudes starting pointing the out. Not sure why they're so short!
very nice bro..
Love the 7 string content bro!!! Let’s plug that in a amp and rip it!
I did towards the end of the video! Or were you hoping for something with a little more wattage?🤘🤣
@@RobArnoldWorld yes!!! I mean that little pocket rocket isn’t bad, but let’s hear them tubes! Lol
Such a badass guitar brother...
Only thing i would change where it mine would have been i would have changed the ESP logo to the script logo in sted of the block letter... Letteraly the only thing...
On another note:
Wee all have our prefrences when it comes to string gauges and all that and i and know you like your 11-60 for 7s. But if youll take an advise from an old guitar tech, when i strong up my own and my freinds guitar up for drop A, my own prefence has been a standar 9-42 set for the E to E and the drop A i used a 68. That way all strings are pretty even. One is not harder or softer to bend than the rest.
That just what i like, but i hope that it mite inspire you to try something new some day.
Love the vids brother.
Love from Denmark
Hey you know I might try that man! One thing I've never liked about seven strings is that the bending feels so different to me than it does on a 6. It's stiffer, and not as smooth, and it's always made be uncomfortable. Perhaps a lighter gauge is just what I need? If I end up trying it out, I'll let you know! Cheers!
@@RobArnoldWorld
It's becouse of the guage of strings dude...
You are using the same gauge of strings both for your drop C and your drop A...
The thicker strings you use for a specific tuning the harder the get to bend.
Im a ,9 gauge guy for E standard. That might be to bendy for someone like you when youv been use to 11s for E for so long but i hope i atleast have put some ideas to your mind ;)
Cheers brother from Denmark
Dead - you can store your weed in there. When you popped it off I was saying, he's probably hide a bag in there, LOL! Great video as always.
🤘🤣
Damn that sticker on the back of the spring cavity...that little face puking.i had that sticker too on some piece of gear, that I put on it, but have no clue where tf it was from
Weird!
Awesome video and guitar Rob. Been a fan since TPD. Before getting the custom, did you and Jason use a Schecter Avenger 7 to record?
Thanks Jude! Mark brought the first 7 string to the Chimaira fold, and it was a Schecter. Unfortunately I do not know the model. But yes we would have definitely brought it with us to use on the Pass Out recording!
Finally!
Are those tuners original to the guitar? That's some exotic shit for 20 years ago. I never even heard of locking tuners till like 2012-13. I'm not a big time gear head though.
I'm actually not sure! I'd assume they're original, but a lot of techs have worked on this guitar over the years. Your question makes me wonder though, when did locking tuners actually hit the scene?🤔
@@RobArnoldWorld I know the first time I ever hear of them was from Fluff, back when his videos were way more basic. That music during the string change sequence had me rolling dude. Reminds me of the curious music from old cartoons.
@@stephencox4509 Haha nice!🎵
That is such a beautiful ESP. I heard that fear factory riffage btw lol just curious if this guitar was built around 2001 that would make it possibly having the old school original DC707s in it possibly? Or is it the regular 707
Another dude said this, "I think pickup most probably is an 81-7 due to silver logo. 707s have the gold one".
And I think he might be right! It's probably not a 707 after all.
what Rob no volume pot cleaning ???? de ox it is a must on the road it will make it smooth and take any scratchiness out
Haha check this video out Rich! ua-cam.com/video/ppXgJIltLV0/v-deo.html
You'll see I have a TON of extra pots... so my pot cleaning days are over! Now, it's just easier to replace them.
Still a good tip though! cheers
@@RobArnoldWorld first of WOW, I just got Rob Arnold to reply lol had to get the fanboy out of me lol. No i tend to always think like a guitar tech. But that is a good point they are cheap enough and easy enough to just pop a new one in. I am heading to the video now that you pointed out . I didn't even know you was doing you tube videos or i would have been watching a long time ago
ok on my way to the video
@@chaos1291975 Right on man! Welcome aboard!🤘
Hey Rob! Question! I love the videos! By the way!
How would one go and seek black nickel ESP pickup ring screws? I’ve been looking for some for my two Edwards Horizon-IIIs🤦🏻♂️
Thanks Dolton! I'll bet stewmac.com would have what you're looking for. But I checked the ESP website and this is what it said:
Does ESP sell replacement parts? Where can I find parts/accessories for my ESP guitar?
ESP does not sell replacement parts at this time. All current ESP instruments use industry standard metric guitar parts, and comparable after market parts can be purchased from most any parts suppliers or retailers. Here are a few places to buy parts:
1. www.stewmac.com
2. www.wdmusic.com
3. www.allparts.com
Good luck and let us know if you were successful!
How well would you recommend the Boss Tuner for intonation and such? Is it pretty well good and accurate or would the money be better spent on a Peterson or somesuch?
Go with a Peterson or any strobe for intonation
Some guys swear by strobe tuners, but I've always just used the Boss and Korg stuff. I'm sure the Peterson is superior, but I've gotten by all these years just fine without.
I love your vids bro, oh, and i've stored my weed on the pickup cavity to 🤣
👊😝
Nice guitar Rob! Did you use this guitar on the first album of Chimaira? Or when did you use a 7-string?
Also, I’ve been going back and watching videos to find that database you’ve mentioned, where you can put a guitar’s serial number in and see details about it; I’m having a hard time finding it in any of your videos. Can you please provide a link? My dad just gifted me a Stratocaster from his playing days and I want to know more about it!
Thanks dude! I put in the order for this guitar while we were making the Pass Out of Existence record if I remember correctly. And then it arrived months later while we had already been out touring on the album for awhile. Here's the video about finding out when your guitar was built: ua-cam.com/users/shortsbnMdAl_BBbw?feature=share

Would love to see an ltd or an edwards signature version from this i would buy it in a heartbeat
What's the story with the Edwards thing? I've been hearing that name lately.
@@RobArnoldWorldJapan only ESP models. They do a lot of Gibson knockoffs, Les Paul's and the like but they also do some cool ESP shapes. I have an Edwards Alexi V.
@@AWMJoeyjoejoe Oh right on
Edwards is like the ltd branch of Japan :) and before edwards you have grassroots
@@sampyro765 Thanks for the info!🎸
have you checked out the ESP LTD M-1007B ET CRSB?
No but I just took a look at it and that thing is GORGEOUS!😍
I saw you guys live at Recher Theatre in Towson, MD in the early 2000's, I wonder if this was the guitar I saw live.. and did it have any weed stashed in there? :D
Maybe!
Ooooh, she's like an S series profile with how thin she is in the middle.
Honestly I thought Buz McGrath and Head were the only ones with Ibanez-thin ESPs. I always thought the RA-1 was a standard Horizon body, but you beat their thin-bodied guitars by a decade+ lol
Ha!🤘😎
Hey Rob, is that guitar pretty silent with spring noise? I usually use light pillow stuffing.
That's a good idea! I've used thin pieces of foam in the past. I find that each guitar, and each bridge/set of springs is different. Some are silent, and some are boisterous.
ooo man :0 that's nicer than a mercedez
😎🤘
Dude I love your music and video content but I highly recommend being really careful using anti-seize on anything as it will get every where and will destroy your clothes. You'll look like the tin man after using it haha. I would use a small paint brush to apply it and only use a small amount cause it will go along way. Hope this helps rock on brother 🤘🤘🤘
Thanks for the tip! I did just watch a video on the topic, and it does seem super messy!
I’m surprised that you prefer the 52-11 set for the E A D G B E portion of the tuning. Not too heavy/tight? I’m also surprised that Esp didn’t recess that backplate by default.
You know dude, you're not the first one to have mentioned that, and it's definitely got my gears turning. It's one of those "ahah" moments, because it's honestly something I've never even considered. I've always thought the strings on a 7 feel stiff, tight, and uncomfortable to play. So I'm definitely going to try out a lighter gauge on the E thru E portion. Video coming soon!
@@RobArnoldWorld Yeah man, you could probably do 46-10 on those and be good
@@toriandicapmond161 I'm gonna give it a go!
What do you recommend the low b string be if im using ghs 11-50 for a 7 string

if you invest in the FIshman rechargeable pack, you never have to change them again :)
9:53 moment
Hey Rob how low do you have the action on that guitar ? What’s your personal preference on the string height ?
Nothing scientific at all. I like it nice and low. Here's exactly how I set it up! ua-cam.com/video/ktiF2rysCW0/v-deo.html
@@RobArnoldWorld awesome thanks I’ll check it out !
🤘@@dieseldrummer8968
Rob...what is your string action height in your lowest string
Nothing scientific about it. I just eyeball it. I like a nice low action. 🎸
I have 7 string prs mark holcomb....62 on lowest string tuned to drop A...i have problem with buzz in 1.75 string height...already have a good neck relief (almost straight)...any recommendation?
I would say that if you can determine where the buzz is coming from, which I'll assume is closer to the headstock, then you'll need to sliiiiightly loosen your truss rod, giving the neck a little more relief. And often times, if your relief is where you like it, just a minor adjustment will remedy your problem. But keep in mind that with a nice low action, some fret buzz is inevitable in my opinion.
If the buzz is happening higher up on the fretboard, you may want to consider raising your bridge slightly.
A little here, a little there, should do the trick! @@robertreboya4080
I didnt know you used to play an Ibanez
Yep! I always played Ibanez until I held my first ESP in 2000!

Kinda worried , your hands look a bit swollen and reddish. A simple check up, maybe blood test for sugar, blood count and a urine test for kidney function could be useful. Not a doctor and maybe it's the camera. If so I'm sorry for false alarm.

Beautiful guitar. I imagine it's a Kiso shop build.
Hell of a bunch of guys working in there, I wish they got as much credit as Jacksons custom builders do.
That being said, they might in Japan.
Rob, if you catch this comment, got a question for Everything You Love.
What made you guys decide we want a song in B, on The Infection, instead of trusty drop C?
Been meaning to ask for a long time.
Also, if I'm lucky, you a 90's wrestling fan? 😂
Such a beauty! When I saw you playing this guitar for a first time, it's immediately catch my eye! Watching you play this custom treasure reminded me how I realized that I wanted to play the seven-string guitar myself. It was back in late 2008. I was spend a time with a good female friends of mine (both of this girls were metalheads, and both of them loved Chimaira), and we watched a gig sets from some festivals. And one of the girls asks me: How seven-string guitar playing works? I started to explain it to her, and my mind started to scream: I WANT THAT LOW B!
thumb bleed while changing string ?
Haha nice spot! T'was a cooking injury from the night before🔪
Being a gearhead, I love videos like this! You should definitely put an 81-7 in that guitar. As much as you love it now, you will love it even more after that. Always look forward to your videos bro, and can't wait til you release some new music. Chimaira 4 life!!!
Right on Nathan! 🤘
And I think it actually is an 81-7 in there, and I was wrong about the 707!
ZERO SIGNAL
I saw you play this guitar on the Pass Out of Existence tour. Always loved it.
Been a fan of your playing since Pass Out of Existence, in my opinion you were one of the best riff writers in metal in the early 2000s.
👊
Never tune your guitar flat like Rob, gravity will affect tuning .
No doubt it may! But for anyone wondering whether they should listen to this guy or do it like I do it, ask yourself this... "Does Rob's shit ever sound out of tune?" 😝
