Thanks Mike as ever you demonstrate as it is without any waffle - being self taught I find your demos invaluable, just like jimmy clues videos. regards Andy
Thanks for a great video and passing on your technique in a very non-patronising way as some seem to do on here. I have looked at a few wood turners on here, but yours will be the first subscription! I really should get the equipment & start turning as I loved it when I was younger. I found it very therapeutic, something to do with the combination of the feel and smell of fresh cut wood. Oh and making something too, its a basic man urge like hunting mammoths etc! Thanks again, Charlie
Thanks Peter. I have, and still do, spend many hours watching experienced turners on UA-cam, trying to pick up tips and tricks, and then putting them into practice. Even the most experienced of turners get the odd catch, the difference between them and the newbies is they know where they went wrong. That's the important thing, to try and understand the dynamics of turning, an area which I am slowly coming to terms with. Very well done with the non smoking too. Take care Mike
'Heart-stopping' doesn't do it justice Mike! Don't think I'd have the guts to actually turn the lathe on after mounting it skewed like that. Turned out great though - good job. (I've just put this on my list of stuff to try turning in the future.)
Thanks Charlie, appreciate your support mate. It is a great pastime, and you'll find that most of the Turners on here are more than willing to pass on their advice and experiences. Oh the halsian days of mammoth hunting...lol Take care Mike
I was surfing the net and came across the topic of eccentric turning. I searched for more info on Bing and your wonderful video started to play. Very enjoyable video and quite informative. Thank you Mike.
Thanks again for your info on both the finishing productas as well as the self centering chuck. At the moment I will have to stick with my new faceplate as I have slightly overspent on my lathe, tools and a new band saw too. haha. as for the Danish oil, I bought a tin of that to practice with and will now try it out as a finish for my pipes. Hopefully some videos will be uploaded shortly. keep up the good work and thansk again for your advice
thank u mike .u know i'm watching this one i think every day . ,and i show it to my friends they like it , but i'm in trouble now ,i have a good friend she asked me to do some one like it . i have to try )))))))))
Mike, every time I watch one of your videos I want to try the same project. You always make it look so easy, of course it never is easy but I'm learning. You Tube is such a wonderful tool to learn from people such as yourself. Thanks for sharing!
That's the whole point of my uploads to pass on things that I have learned from others, that I have enjoyed trying, hope you enjoy trying it too. Thanks for your continued support and encouragement. Take care Mike
Thanks Brendon, appreciate your encouragement. We are never really 100% happy with our own work, we see faults that others don't, and believe me, both me and my work are full of 'em.......lol Take care Mike
Yet Again Mike, fantastic video. Love the Zebra wood. Again! you give us novices confidence, through your commentary, whereby you say, "this is my first time of trying an eccentric goblet" Absolutely beautiful piece, viewed from my un expert eye of course.
Hello Mike, I'm from Brazil and I love their work, I am learning a lot from your videos, your pieces are beautifull. Olá Mike, sou do Brasil e gosto muito dos seus trabalhos , estou aprendendo muito com seus videos ,suas peças são belissimas.
Thank you Christopher, as I said to a few others, I did practice on about five or six bits of scrap first, to get a feel for what was needed. I use a mix of Cellulose Sanding Sealer, and Cellulose Thinners, 3 of Sealer to 1 of Thinners. Take care Mike
A fun video as always. Thank you. Don't know if you've seen the pdf article that results from googling "raffan scoops", but I believe there's some quality information in it that translates to this project. Just an encouragement. You continue to excel.
Just spotted this one Mike, what a beautiful piece and really like your presentations, the way you explain and show what you do is great for us beginners, thank you, sorry I'm over 5 years late! kind regards, Tony (UK).
Hello Mike, Great piece of turning. I'm going to give it a try. It would be lovely to have a set of these, say four, on a turned wooden tray. I'm well and truly hooked on you work and watch at least one of your videos each and have therefore subscribed. I note your caution about pieces flying off and for early beginners they should note that I have a triangular shaped hole, each side about 5 inches, in the plasterboard ceiling of my workshop which could easily have been my skull. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it Porky, I knew I had a brother somewhere. The difference between us is that I am a bit mad, well a lot really, as if I messed up I would still post it, as it would show everyone that that my wife is wrong........ " I am NOT perfect"!!!!!!!!.....lol Take care Mike
Thanks Mike, this is the second video I've watched using this technique, have added it to the stuff I'l like to try list. Very nice result, thanks for sharing, Gord
Hi Gord, and thank you, they can be a little tricky, but perseverance is the key. I assure you I lost many while practicing, all part of the fun really :) Take care Mike
Hi Mike, great job! I think the goblet turned out nicely! The zebrawood was a good choice of wood for this project. Always good to see your work. Keep it up friend. Brett
That is beautiful..Well done, I will have to try this in the future..Love your videos, very informative and inspirational..Keep em coming and I will keep watching... Scott
I am not sure if they would be hard wearing enough, I would doubt they would hold up to a lot of handling. I do use Danish Oil, which is both food safe and hard wearing when applied three or four times, with an 8 hour minimum between applications, to allow the oil to penetrate the wood. It does not come to a high shine but more of a deep luster. Hope this helps Cheers Mike
Great video Mike. Your time an effort are appreciated by all of us. Tom
absolutely gorgeous, and watching the wood turning into a marvelous piece of art was quite soothing to the soul... i watched it 3 times in a row...
as ever Mike, great work and a inspiration to us all budding turners
Thanks very much, coming from a man with your experience and talent, I am honoured.

Mike

Wonderful project Mike. I was afraid for you a few times during the video but you pulled it off in excellent fashion. Thanks so much for sharing. :)
