I always put a little anti-seize on the plug threads and some dielectric grease on the plug tips. And always change spark plugs when the engine is cold, less chance of stripping your aluminum heads this way.
Big thanks to Aaron for this video! Just changed out spark plugs on my 2012 si and this was my go to video!
Glad it helped bro 🤙🏽
Thanks man. I almost got the spark plugs out without removing the the cowl and heat shield but the spark plug boot was rigid and an inch too long to remove. Pain in the butt but I love my si so the maintenence is satisfying. Don't get cheap when buying plugs.
Damn bro this was a perfect video explaining everything! Thank you!
Dope vid, Now next video: How to change headlight fluid
When you are re-installing the metal Cowl shield in the engine bay, how do you prevent the bolts from falling out of your socket? Is there a magnetized feature that holds onto them?
Thanks bro. Great info. Honda sure did mess that design up.
I just did mine early. It feels more responsive. I used oem Honda parts too.
Thanks for your help!
In my 93 Accord - plug changes were super simple.
In my 2013 SI - my first impression they were making a bid for "hide and seek" champion of the engine bay....
WTFix was that Honda? Still Love em, but gotta call Honda out on this one.
Solid video, thank you.
Si plugs have crush washers. You tighten until gives resistance then quarter turn.
Don’t give me wrong, I’d like my car but I hate the fact that you need to remove so much stuff just to get to the valve cover or spark plugs. It’s at times like this where I miss my EM1. I miss not having to remove my windshield wipers to work on my motor
Yeah it’s definitely a pain but it isn’t the worst thing in the world
Great video, doing a friends car and couldn't find the F'n plugs, was about to pull the fuel rail off.....
Thanks man. Glad it helped 🤙🏽
very helpful, what a pain in the butt for some plugs but you made it look nice and easy
Great videos man, got a 2013 Si with 70xxx on it. Any recommendations on what I should "expect" to go out around 100k? I'm thinking I should change spark plugs, Alternator, battery, get the valves adjusted and maybe the drive belts? I've only replaced fluids and changed oil/new tires and alignment. Been driving for 6k without a problem 👍🏼 loving this Civic platform.
Honestly if you’ve been keeping up on it I wouldn’t expect anything to just “go out”. Alternator should last. Spark plugs would be a good idea. Also if you’re getting the cowl off and doing the plugs you might as well replace the valve cover gasket and the little gaskets that go to the valve cover studs and surround the coil packs.
@@AaronShirzadi_mar5hal there is no reason to touch the valve cover gasket if they aren't leaking, check/replace the pcv if anything. Do a tb cleaning, you need a idle relearn and tps calibration after.
I am curious if I do not need the metal heat shield? I mean is it used to keep the engine warm and efficient or is it to block the heat from the plastic cowl. If so most hard plastics have a melting point of around 210+ F and the engine bay does not get that hot. I was hoping to save 6 pounds weight
I always kept it. Less heat under the cowl is probably a good thing. Especially since the little rubber line for the washer fluid is there and the wiring for the wiper trans. Plus it could help with fogging of the windshield in colder weather. Idk that last party could be bs but who knows. For 6lbs I wouldn’t worry about it
Very helpful video! Thanks alot!✌🏾
Anytime 🤙🏽
Extremely helpful. Thank you for the video.
Super detail. Thank you
You’re very welcome 🤙🏽
Keep it up bro💯 looking forward to more videos
Thanks man!!!
how about the gap on the plugs?
Great video man...
Thanks bro! I appreciate that 🤙🏽
What should the gap be?
dont know if this was covered
but are 2008 si sparkplugs the same as 2013 civic si sparkplugs?
Great video 👍🏼
I fuck with this. I was terrified of taking that cowl off but it turns out to be mad easy. Thanks bra
You my man is a life saver 👍👍
🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
I went to reinstall my Cowell and the corner pieces don't sit flush on the windshield. Is it a big deal if it doesn't sit flush ?
I’ve taken mine off so many times that it doesn’t sit perfectly either. If you get replacement plastic clips then it should sit flush but it doesn’t bother me that much.
Aaron Shirzadi thanks for the reply man ! Do you find it has affected the rain drainage on your car ?
Honestly nothing that I’ve noticed. And I live in ny so I get all kinds of weather but it could vary I guess. My engine bay has been neglected since day one as far as cleaning and such. Might get around to it some day hah
Aaron Shirzadi right on I'm just a little North of the border so that helps to know thanks. And lol no worries man mines a bit dirty too
Thanks for the vid! What size socket was used to get the spark plugs out?
I used a 5/8ths spark plug socket and it worked fine
🤘🏻great video bro
Thank you sir! 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
Thanks! Btw wats the recommended mileage to change spark plugs?
Aaron Shirzadi Yay!!time for a DIY on tranny fluid change on 9gen Si! When? 🙈
I actually did one but never uploaded it because I wasn’t a fan of how the audio came out. I’ll do one in the next few days 👍🏽
Just changed mine out at 150k and they looked like they could have still gone longer.
good job,really help me,,,very detailed..thank you
Thank you was easy and helpful !
Hey bro thanks for the info I was wondering do they sell that spark plug tool just for that?
They do. They should have them at harbor freight. Just ask for a magnetic spark plug socket. I think that’s where I got the one I use.
Thanks bro u big help i sub
Could you provide links to the tools you used? Also, my Si is having an issue with one of the windshield nozzles not spraying. Any idea how I can fix this issue?
Its clogged. Don't ever use that orange rain X fluid again. It's prone to knocking deposits loose and they'll then clog the nozzle.
Id order a new nozzle as attempting to clean such a a small hole is extremely difficult
Dealership quoted me $299, how much do you have in parts?
To change your spark plugs? That’s wild lol. To buy the plugs and socket it would probably cost you $50
Lifesaver!!!
when it comes to changing trans fluid on a 8thgen do u have to change it everytime u change ur oil? because thats what i was told buy a guy that works at honda
Yeah just like Aaron said, once every 30K for tranny oil. At least that's what I do. I drain from the bottom and fill from the top. I have it perfected to where I don't spill a single drop of oil :)
I do mine with a 6 dollar hand pump that screws on top of the MTF bottle. Takes 2 quarts. Always loosen the fill plug first, since you don't want to drop the fluid then find out you can't get the fill plug out. Taking the driver's tire off makes this relatively easy.
get a strut bar...ditch the metal cowl...problem solved. if you ever need to change things just remove the plastic part
The SiriMoto stut bar for the 9th gen si fits underneath the cowl. I wanna get it badly
First! Notification Squad
Much easier than my Lexus
@00:31 ...and Latino girl giggles, "Ryan little...eheheheh..." (a commentary on his package endowment?)
Fn Honda design just to change plugs 🤦🏽♂️
They didn’t make it easy 😅
