  • Hey guys! Today we are testing out some very affordable new makeup from the drugstore! After a full month NO BUY in June, this was extra fun for me! And I am very happy with what I found, for the most part:) What new makeup are you really loving lately? I hope you enjoy this one! Thank you so much for watching!

Mascara Update: Wears well, didn't flake or smudge and was very easy to remove (although it didn't remove like a tubing mascara). I still thought it was a little weak on the lashes though. More of a light coating/natural look mascara.

I think it’s good to remember that as time passes a person gets older and bodies age. Period. There’s an enchanted belief that with diligent effort a woman can stay youthful and preserved forever. It’s so important to take good care of health and skin, but living a full, joyful life will bring light to one’s eyes and a soulful vigor that will be much, much more important as time passes. I’m glad you had a good time in Arizona!

I’d rather have my foundation too light than too dark because I can always use a light bronzer to even it out.
When my husband and I were out and about Friday, I noticed a woman who was really tan. I looked around and realized she was just about the only person with a tan in the whole place. People just don’t tan like they used to when I was young (60 now). Back then just about everyone was tanned to the max. When I was about 21, a cousin (10 years older than me) got skin cancer on her face. If she hadn’t had a friend that was a nurse notice it, she wouldn’t have known. It was just an odd topical discoloration and her friend told her to get it checked. I stopped tanning because of that, and I was one that would lay out for 8 hours a day spritzing oil all over myself. I truly believe that because I stayed out of the sun in my 20’s saved my facial skin from getting old before it’s time.

I’m your age and if there was sunscreen when we were kids my mother didn’t know! I’m really pale and I’ve had so many really bad burns that I quit doing that a long time ago. I always covered my kid in sunscreen and even myself. One vacation it rained and was so cold for 6 days, the 7th we went to the beach. Somehow I missed the top of my feet, they burnt so badly I couldn’t go back to the beach! I’m hoping to never get skin cancer. We’re a lot wiser now! When it’s actually too late!!😩

I've had melanoma twice so I have to cover up like that. Better safe then dead it the way some of us have to look at it. I do love the pool and the sun so covering up is just what I must do.

I recently bought 2 shades of the Elf foundation and I have finally figured out what the fragrance reminds me of - my dad, many, many years ago right after he came back from the barber. There was a powder that the barber would dust across the back of his neck and I haven’t smelled that in over 50 years. It’s a wonderful memory of the past!

Like others have said you have to shake the Maybelline Vinyl lip first. Then without pressing your lips together let it set down. It doesn’t dry fully, stays a bit tacky. I don’t mind the tackiness myself. Doesn’t dry out the lips. I think it’s a great product-long-lasting and comfortable.

Listen, I have been duped before, but I loved your look and I ordered these. I cannot believe how good these are. Never have I experienced such good success with a lipliner, like all day. I loved your technique of a slight overline and smudge, then gloss. Thanks for these, my new favorites! Lifechangers! Thank you so much!

I recently bought that ELF foundation and I love it. I got them to shade match me and it was absolutely perfect match. Every time I've worn it people have complimented me on how well my skin is looking! Love that they don't even realise I'm wearing foundation. And I love the way it wears. At 53 it's not every foundation I can say that about. Oh and a great tip I got about being out in the sun is if your shadow is shorter than you, it's safe to be out and expose 80% of your body for about 20 minutes to get your vitamin d. Works for me. I still apply sunscreen to my face (I've spent too much on skincare to undo all that) but I get my 20 minutes before applying sunscreen to the rest of my body. Although I rarely expose 80% of my skin! I'm not leaving the house in knickers and a bra thanks - not even in the back garden. We're overlooked from all directions and would hate to give the neighbours heart failure!!!

I wanted to love my Vinyl Inks because the shades are beautiful (they do smell great) and the longevity is really good. BUT I hate that it doesn't dry down all the way. I was trying to eat a sandwich while wearing one and the top layer of the bun kept sticking to my lips. Now I will say the color stayed put throughout, but the feeling is something I cannot get past. I will stick with other lip products, even if I have to reapply throughout the day.

Sadly though I am not sure I will be buying more from Essence aside from that because I have had issues with their packaging falling apart. I love the new Essence Baked Blush. So easy to use and delivers. Also like their lip liners, when I wear them (I should use a lip liner more but find I skip this step more often than not). The sun has been demonized. It’s essential to our eco system, vitamin D and circadian rhythm. Yes, we should be wise, not overdo, wear sunscreen, but I am not willing to avoid it. I would rather have a few wrinkles than miss activities in the beautiful outdoors. I am surprised my skin is in very good shape for 65 considering back in the day, there was no sunscreen at all. I think I benefited from living in the NW where we get 4 seasons. I still do not wear sunscreen indoors. Other dangerous things from back in the day was separating eyelashes with a “safety” pin. Thankful for all the mascara formulas and wand options now!

I bought a couple of the Essence Baked Blushes and dropped one and it broke in half / fell out and I was very surprised to see that the whole bottom half is not blush but a sold material that kind of looks like ceramic. So you definitely aren’t getting as much as you think looking at the packaging. That being said it is so affordable and I really like them! I love the Rosy Rosewood color since it is a cooler tone and unique.
I also love the vinyl liquid lip but yeah the colors can be a little deceptive. My favorite is peachy but also really like coy and golden! These are great if you need them to last a long time without touching up!! But you have to remember to shake them first (didn’t realize that when I first tried them!)

Interestingly enough, our state has statistically loads of people with low vitamin D. On the flip side, we are THE state for melanoma. We have the highest rates in the whole U.S. People come here for the sun but don't take care of their skin and wear sun screen. We've literally seen people in bikinis using those old school mirrors to get tanned. Also, if you're like me and can't stand the heat, you spend about 7 months of the year indoors as much as possible lol. Thanks for the video. I've been wondering about that foundation. @elaineracette6667 Thank you, Elaine. This is a wonderful list. I hope it helps others, too. I never wore pinks until I let my grey hair grow out. Then my whole makeup color scheme changed. Actually, I think it is much prettier now.

The vinyl lippies are tricky. You need to shake it, and you can't mush your lips together or lick the lips. There are too many directions for a lipstick 💄. I don't use mine much. My mom wanted one, and I told her how to use it, and she said, " I just want to put it on and go. I won't remember to shake it or anything!" I told her to see if she liked mine, and she said no way. I will stick with a regular lipstick. Lol

i feel the exact same. HATED the vinyl ink lipsticks SO MUCH. never have i ever had a lipstick be so sticky or remain so sticky for so long. and mine didn’t even have crazy lasting power. only things i like are the scent, shades and packaging. otherwise, totally overhyped. revlon makes a satin ink lipstick that is the same concept (shiny longwearing lipstick) but isn’t as tricky or sticky.

I totally agree. And you know what's WORSE than the vinyl ink? The matte ink! It's the stickiest, most finicky lip product I've ever tried. You can do everything right and it still comes out in little clumps. You can't lick your lips, can't use lip balm, and it's very uncomfortable sitting on your lips. I don't get the hype. I couldn't stand them. The vinyl ones are gentle by comparison.

  • @jeanieandersoncarpenter9127

I bought the ELF foundation. When I opened it the first time, the scent was overwhelming. I'm not that sensitive to smells, but it lingered. I had to take it off right away and clean the brush I'd used. After a week or two, I reopened it, and the smell had died down somewhat, but I still can't believe how strong the scent was. That said, I prefer it to their CC Cream. That is too cakey.

I didn't understand why you always mentioned the lids on these, they can't really be that bad, right? And then I bought Essence banana powder... I never dropped it, haven't travelled with it, used it for a couple of weeks, and the whole lid attachment just literally crumbled. I'll go back to paying more for my product if that means the packaging keeps together :D

I recommend a different background OR changing your filter/lighting. You are beautiful and in some of your videos it is difficult to see your “details”. Kind of a washed out or cloud like view. I’ve seen a lot of tutorials provide an “outdoor lighting” shot so us viewers can have a realistic look at how products perform. Anywho- obviously what you do is working and I’ll watch regardless ❤

That lipstick didn't work for me. Glad I only bought 1. There's no sheen left behind after applying. They do transfer (mine got on my front tooth). I got butt hole lips from it and the shades on the packaging don't match what's on the inside. If anyone's looking for a great waterline eyeliner try the ones from Essence. Make sure to get the ones you have to sharpen. I know, it's a pain but I have both. The retractable liner will not stay put on me. I don't have watery eyes so that's not why. But I do know that they did work for someone else. Since they're so cheap buy one of each to see if it'll stay for you. I'm telling you. That liner stays put for hrs. It's beaten out UD's and Marc Jacob's...

Your comments on sun exposure and vitamin D are interesting. I think it was the 'Sunscreen and Subscribe' lady on You Tube who said that your skin can still make vitamin D...even when using sunscreen protection from skin damage. I wonder if that is also true for production of melatonin in the skin?

Maybe the woman at the Grand Canyon has had a form of skin cancer and needs to protect herself. That may be her way of continuing to live her life. It's hard not to compare ourselves but maybe just do you and not make yourself feel guilty with comparisons. Worrying about getting older or not, is not going to stop it or change things. Just my opinion to just go with it and do the best you can to age gracefully.

Elf is not a very affordable brand anymore, it easily goes over 10-12 euros and I'm more afraid of choosing the wrong shade online (as I did with their powder foundation, argh), so I'm turning to other drugstore brands.

Yes, but don't apply directly there. Just blend up lightly into that area. Start with light to medium coverage foundations. And blend with a brush or slightly damp sponge more than you think you have to.
Most important is getting your skin ready for makeup. Not even the most expensive brands will look flawless if you don't take care of your skin first. I found this to be extremely important as I aged. Give your face some love!! I avoid waxy, heavy products that sit in my wrinkles and heavy powders that accent them. Go try some drugstore brands that won't hurt your wallet too much. I love Elf, especially the camo concealer, Milani, and even Wet N' Wild! I haven't had success with NYX though. Not the best for mature skin, in my opinion . Elf brushes are great, too. You really only need 4 or 5 to start a full face of makeup.

It funny, I love so many elf products and I tried this foundation because Kelly Gooch recommended it but I did not love it. I liked it more upon initial application but it oxidized weird on me and I just did not like the way it looked at the end of the day. I was so disappointed! The Bye Bye Panda Eyes is TERRIBLE and so badly named. It looked spidery when I applied it, and it flaked all over the place on me. I love other Essence mascaras but this one is THE WORST.
